I've searched for years for the perfect 80s clean sound and I got pretty close to what I heard in my head and I was happy with it. Then I got a Rockman X100 and that just did it for me!
I come back here again after an year and again a load of thanks. I don't have analogue gear. I used native instrument's guitar rig and achieved a very similar result. Thank you so much. I didn't even use any amp and cabinet just the fx chain as you described had help me achieve the tone. I am really enjoying now playing it. Thank you. I sincerely hope this video gets picked up by youtube algorithm. So valuable information.
Great tutorial! And if you use the bridge/middle pickup position on the Strat, you get the Michael Landau pop-rock sound as heard on Richard Marx’s ‘Repeat Offender’ record from ‘89. Cheers!
Great stuff Jason!!! I love the 80's and I love this tone. And I grew up on New Wave, so this video ticks all the boxes for me :-) For this kind of sound I mostly use the Roland JC-120 sim (w/ stereo chorus-delay-reverb) on my Pod 2.0, but I have to try this with separate pedals like you suggest. By the way, that clean Metallica tone was SPOT ON. Cheers mate!
Get a dytronics cs5 stereo tri chorus/ eventide h3000 dse for(Stereo micropitch)and for detuner/ DBX compressor/ Lexicon pcm 80/81 for delay and reverb, eventide eclipse. Or a fulltone TERC and you have the holy grail or a rockman
It sounded so familiar, so 80s, I was sure I had heard it somewhere. Damn@@middleagedgearjunkie you're good. The one riff I'm hooked is Deff Leppards Histeria
Hi ! I have question, can i make this sound on Marhsal CODE 25 ? Bcs my biggest dream is to make music like this to my own "films" in the future, u know like Miami Vice vibe ... I haven't had the opportunity to experience the 80s, so I want to make at least a little feel like in those years.
I did some reading, it says you can use up to 5 effects at the same time in the CODE 25 amp. So the main things you need are compression, chorus and reverb.
Could you build a few sounds of Richie Blackmore. And if possible not so noisy. I prefer the "pure" sound of the solo in Deep Purple's hallelujah song. I will be very grateful if you can at least build it and share it with Me.
Brilliant Sir. Could you please do an 80s hair metal tone
Sounds like a plan!
Take this add a nice American kick in the nuts drive like a Ratt or something and voila
Just add a OD or Distortion to the chain😊

hey now hey now, don’t dream it’s overrrr. recognized the song right away
Reminds me of Cure music in those chorus sounds. Post punk and new wave, 80s.

Cool video - great sound
I didn't catch all the songs but I could recognize "Don't dream it's over" and "True Colors" in there
For a few minutes it took me back to 80s. And now I have to start my day in 2021. 😎

Well done. Brilliant tones.
AWESOME!!! Been searching for this style of tone for ages.. Your video helped me a lot!
Glad you liked it, I also did an 80s hair metal tone video too.
Amazing, just what I was looking for. Love these tones and hope they make a comeback.

You can't go wrong with a Roland JC clean tone!
Yesssss that sounds amazing! I gotta figure that out on my bugera
Glad it was helpful.
Finally, I found this tutorial.thanks a lot
Nice vid! excellent job on catching that 80s sound. Kinda reminds me about The Cure.
Thanks!
@@middleagedgearjunkie No problem! 👌
Man this is great. Reminds me a lot of the sound I want. Reminds me of Candlebox tone as well.
damn that humbucker tone sound beautiful
I love how you straight up said “if you have a dull sounding guitar” LOL! I have guitars I love that are indeed dull!
A dull sounding guitar (in a musical sense) can be very useful, particularly in a mix that might have other bright sounding instruments.
Omg!!! This is the kind of sound I've been looking for!!!
I've taken up a lot of guitar lessons lately and my main goal throughout my musical quest is to get a chorus pedal for my Fender/Squier Stratocaster!😊
@JSlikbeer-ni6xf I trust you 💯💪!
First riff sounds like Lonely Man by BrownWorm. Great tone you've got, cheers!
Yaaaay .....I'm first!!! Awesome tone, Jason. One of the best videos on the tone I've ever seen.
Wow, thanks man! 😁

I love this sound of guitar so muuuuuchhhh, every time i hear this sound i feel like oooOOoooOooH
You are a magician ❤🎉
Nice tone👍
Thank you so much
what song was that in the beginning you played?
I made it up

I'll have to have a play with one. I've never actually tried a CODE 25

@@middleagedgearjunkie thanks a lot
Nice! Really nice! 👌 what do you make of some of the modern clean tones? Like Ichika Nito or McRocklin clean tones.
What's the name of that first tone u playing
I made it up
@@middleagedgearjunkie it's so beautiful. Do you know any vst plugins that I can get that guitar tone?
@@HP-hu8rw sorry I haven't used any plugins I would recommend for this application.
what was that last acoustic guitar song you played before the video ended?
Burn for you by John Farnham
What's the song you were playing at the beginning? And the first one with the acoustic guitar?
The first song I just made up, the first acoustic song was True Colors
Could you build a few sounds of Richie Blackmore. And if possible not so noisy. I prefer the "pure" sound of the solo in Deep Purple's hallelujah song. I will be very grateful if you can at least build it and share it with Me.
That's so princy🔥😍
gonna need a lot more gear than that to get the Huff, Landau, Pierce glassy clean tone! And less compression!
Great video dude. I use an Electric Mistress clone (Retro Sonic Flanger) for chorus.
Yeah, Andy Sommers from the Police used a mistress which was often mistaken for a chorus.
Yay arion chorus
still a classic!
Pleease what was the first riff played
The one at the very beginning I made up.
@@middleagedgearjunkiewhat about the first one you played with Humbuckers before the Metallica riff
@dewayne6450 also a Metallica riff, from Master of Puppets.
At the beginning you can see he filmed it the forth of April my birthdayyyyyy
Thank you
You're welcome
Awesome video!! Whats the name of the second acoustic song?
It's called Burn For You by John Farnham. I did a chord porn video on this song th-cam.com/video/gxSeUvXFfb0/w-d-xo.html
@@middleagedgearjunkie you did a WHAT
Man that was amazing... Can you tell me how to get Neal Schon sound from raised on the radio stuff
I'll look into it for you.
@@middleagedgearjunkie wow I totally appreciate that man
Chord names for that first riff? Sounds amazing man
Em add9 Em add9#5 D (C shape played on 5th fret)
@@middleagedgearjunkie thanks so much Jason! I love your videos man
Great vid . What chorus pedal are you using?
The Arion SCH-Z
This might be a stupid question. If you wanted this sound with a mic’d acoustic, would you run the mic directly through these pedals?
Probably easier to do this in post with software.
i said it before to a friend
king crimson and the police did clean tones the best
You look like a yound Stephen Stills :)
Nice video
Hey, do you think is better buy a cheap pedals first a then level up the gear or save money and buy good stuff at once
Good question, I'd probably say upgrade as you go.
Arion! That is so back in the day. You look too young for that one. I still have my Arion Stereo Delay from the 80s.
My first chorus pedal was the Arion chours (back in the 90s) I gave it away....
Hi :) , which pickups are in your strato?
Fender Noiseless
what song is that in the beginning?
Nothing, just noodling.
@@middleagedgearjunkie You wouldn't mind giving those chords out, would you? It's an awesome riff haha
it goes Em9 (024030) Cadd9 b5 (x34030) Dsus2 (x54030) 3 times Am7 (x02010) Am7 (G) (3x2010) Am7 (F#) (2x2010) Am7 (G) and back to the start.
@@middleagedgearjunkie dude that's great, thank you!
@@jasongawron4436 no worries, do something with it, make it your own.
Song on intro ?
I made it up 😉
@@middleagedgearjunkie no way lol. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
@@middleagedgearjunkie what plugins can I use to get that same effect. Like amplitude 5 (software)
What’s opening song ???
It was improvised, the pedals made me do it...
@@middleagedgearjunkie Whats tabs you used ?, like this song
@@lucksod9005 what part of improvised dont you get
Yes! I can get that Steve Lukather sound without buying $20,000 worth of rack gear!!
This gave me chils.
Accoustic looked like a ael50 ibanez
It's an old Takemine G series.
Or just buy Roland JC-120 combo
The irony is this being called a clean tone. I like it though.
nowadays clean just means without distortion lmao
Doesn't work well with high output humbuckers, low output single coils are best for this tone.
I'd say single coils mostly. For the Metallica examples you could use your higher output pickups.
You can use the eq to thin out the humbuckers a bit. That's what I do with my guitar.
Cela n est pas du tout le son des année 80s
great talent use for Jesus , Jesus loves you!
