History
Pigs in Space Starring Miss Piggy is a three-in-one video game developed and published by Atari, Inc. for the Atari 2600. The game was released in 1983 and is based on the Pigs in Space sketch series from the popular television series The Muppet Show. This game was the last in a series of children-friendly games developed by Atari for the Atari 2600. Atari marketed these games as being good for the development of hand-to-eye coordination. The game was designed by Michael Sierchio in collaboration with Jim Henson, and programmed by Bill Aspromonte, Robert Zdybel, and John Russell.
Scenario
The game consists of three different Muppets-themed games accessible from a common menu. The characters in the game are the hogs of the starship Swinetrek: the ineffectual Captain Link Hogthrob, the carefully manicured First Mate Piggy, and the inexplicable Dr. Julius Strangepork. Your mission is to protect the galaxy from the villainous Gonzo.
How to Play?
Chickenvaders: This is a Space Invaders clone where Captain Link Hogthrob runs along the bottom of the screen firing sausages at egg-dropping chickens, and at Gonzo who occasionally flies across the top of the screen in a flying saucer.
Pastaroids: This is a Frogger clone where Miss Piggy must dodge flying pasta and meatballs to cross the screen from bottom to top to reach the ship USS Swinetrek. If you touch a flying meatball or spaghetti strand, you will lose ground, and thus time. Escape from the Planet of the Gonzoids: In this game, the player is Doctor Strangepork controlling the Swinetrek as it flies through tunnels shooting robots (called Gonzoids) that throw pizzas.
