This is a lovely review of Alma’s journey in music, albeit skimming lightly through some of her accomplishments. 🩷🎶💞🎶 I love hearing Alma speak, her thoughts are dancing joyously, flitting here and there as something is noticed, yet always turning toward joy!
What an incredibly academic mind this young woman has. Her intellectual qualities go far beyond her musical genius. Alma is such an inspiration to all young people no matter their aspirations in life. Even with her brain power, she has still had to buckle down and do the many hours of hard work mastering her virtuosity in violin and piano, just to give her incredible talents a platform. Alma is quite an exceptional young lady.
Shaking my head at the snobby boomers putting Alma down when she's exactly the kind of person this tired art form needs if it hopes for a revitalization. She's young, full of creativity, and an independent thinker. Unfortunateluy, I think is also why the classical music mainstream won't take Alma seriously. It seems much of the negative comments towards Alma revolve around her not following or disagreeing with the established traditions of the art. Yet, in my opinion, it is the slavish devotion to those traditions that is killing classical music. If an art form is to survive, it must be alive and able to innovate and grow with the times. Every classical concert or opera I've been to is just a sea of gray and white hair while I'm over here as a 20-something year old with a highly unusual taste for someone my age who isn't a pro musician or conservatory student. Whoever is in charge of these things is doing a terrible job of marketing to new audiences. I strongly disagree that it has anything to do with education or lack thereof because I don't believe that you need any kind of special knowledge (music theory, musicology, etc.) to enjoy classical music. I think this misconception is whar scares many people away.

Incredibly talented miraculously so, but right now her style seems to be quite traditional. I think she will have a great career ahead of her as her tastes develop. If younger people are stsying away from traditional operas and concert halls, they will eventually stay away from hers as well her performances as well, because she doesn’t seem to be offering anything particularly new or innovative stylistically. Also, can she play other composers’ works or only her own? how does she interpret Beethoven or Mozart or Tchaikovsky or Bach modern classical composers like Stravinsky or Penderecki? John Williams writes wonderful scores for movies, often borrowing themes outright from other composers’ works. I see that kind of future for her, at least. Competency and fame. Why is Alma Deutscher not the big star she should be given her talent? She likely is as gifted as Mozart. Then why? To me Alma is just a clone of the past. She does everything like they did 300 years ago. What would Mozart do with an electric guitar? What would he do with all the modern technology? I feel Alma is missing her time.
The lessons are already in place. Too many "modern" composers appear to think that composition is merely a mechanical exercise and lack that essential sweep of inspirational emotional uplift that previous generations produced in such abundance. I recall one post WW2 UK composer who had the impertinence to accuse fellow composer George Lloyd of being out of his time, as if uplifiting melodic style in music-writing could ever be dismissed in such a way. That perhaps exemplifies the basic failure in modern classical compositions - the inability to create melody that marks the truly memorable works.
How can you jugde two completely different genres against each other? A real music fan would find the beauty in both of them. And if you‘re anti pop music, at least accept, that Taylor Swift unlike most popstars writes her own songs. I‘m a rock guy after all, but I get the huge talent of both Alma and Taylor in their genre.

And being calm in front of so many people is not even that hard, blinded by the follow spots she can hardly see more than the front row, she would probably be more nervous in a small club on front of 200 people, where she can see everybody‘s face.

The wording in your title is not correct. Classical music, or maybe a more correct term, orchestral music, has always been accessible to young people, even long before the online, digital age. Any child can access any classical music piece on iTunes or Spotify anytime he or she wants in the same way they access Taylor Swift. So Alma is not making the music "more accessible" to younger people.
It's referring to the mental block, the intimidation factor, perhaps the fear of what is different and difficult that keeps young people from accessing the music, that she is helping to bridge with her manner and music.
Yes, it is referring to the rising trend of impatience (coupled with a lack of theoretical knowledge) in younger people who have no “immediate” connection to European culture or refined taste. Most people I know listen to pop music, which is part of a massive social engineering project designed to destroy patience and elevate the animalistic and ferocious sound to that of public esteem. Alma, whether you like her as a composer or not, is at least involved in the creation of listening music, which will only help to foster greater appreciation in the long run.
The sounds of the modern world are "ugly"? Since when? Her idea of beauty in music seems to be limited to 18th and early 19th century music, which is a style she doesn't deviate from at all. It's a very narrow minded approach.
This is what she is saying: "the ugly sounds of the modern World, like sirenes and car hooting" (and she is right with that, I think), so Alma is not saying that the modern World does not have beautiful sounds.
Be patient, we only have more or less juvenilia so far, her concept of what is beautiful will morph and mature and expand as she ages. She's spent much of the last few years writing 2 operas, so who knows what she will sound like now that she has come of age, as she takes on new and more varied projects. Her album of piano music, even though made up of childhood pieces and perhaps centered in the sound world of the first half of the 19th century, has contemporary flourishes and features, so that it sounds fresh, and is neo-Romantic rather than Romantic.
"No sign of a real talent". Wow.😮 If she is not talented who is talented? Einaudi or Richter, for example? Or those composers of ridiculous horrible but contemporary piano pieces, which seem to be a musical joke? Her writing May be oldfashioned for some people, but not talented? No way.
She will not mature (and be humble) as a personality if everyone around hyping her constantly. She needs to have her very first big failures to really mature in life and lose his naivite.
Alma knew from a young age that she would be largely ignored and dismissed by the music establishment, but she instead resolutely followed her passion and the media noticed and thus she came to the attention of the public via the global internet just like countless other singers and musicians WW.
