Wow I feel really priviliged to view this exceptional footage of Gene and Eddie. These guys paved the way for all the 60's groups who based themselves on good solid rock music , Buddy Holly was also a big influence also and he is my personal favourite. I keep asking myself " why did these guys die at so young an age" ? Heaven must be rockining ??
I remember the good old days, I lived in Daly city California I went to Jefferson high school. I listened to the great oldies music this music brings me back to the good old days,
Every time I'm in Cypress, CA I stop by pay homage to this rock n roll legend. I bet Mr Harrison saw him in Bristol, inspired him form a band (Beatles). God rest his soul.
George was given one of Eddie's shirts by Johnny Gentle and treasured it. Years later his son Danni gave Joe Brown who worked with Ed, his dad's replica of Eddie's Gretche which he often played on stage. George was a huge fan of Ed and was lucky to see him in concert. Probably one of George's influences for sure!
great video. And what a difference between the two artists. Gene Vincent looks so shy, doesn't look at his audience at all. Eddie on the other hand seems to love every second of it. What a star he would have become. He reminds of Elvis.

Tragically, Eddie received his fatal injuries just at the end of the road where I lived and Gene received a broken leg from which he consequently had a permanent limp. I saw the wreck on my way to work in the morning. What a loss of this great talent! 😞 I still visualise the scene with a lump in my throat. 😞
Interesting. You must at least be well into your 80's now. This is the first time I've ever heard from someone who was actually at the scene when it took place.
@@Beatle849 Yes, I am 84 in a few weeks. I did not witness the accident as it was early hours of the morning. I believe the driver fell asleep. I saw the car and the felled lamp post on my way into work. I was conscripted into the army a couple of months later to serve my two year's National service. Incidentally, the guy who took over my job was Roger Greenway who, at that time sang with The Kestrels, later to form Cookaway Music with Roger Cook. You will be aware that they wrote many number ones, "I'd like to teach the world to sing" etc., etc., etc. One of my mates is Lofty Mansfield from The Trogs. A great loss. No-one could replicate the sudden change that took place in mid fifties UK and the advert of Rock and Roll. I was studying Belle cantó until Elvis msde Heartbreak hotel, at which time I threw it all up and formed a R&R band, which didn't come to much. People like Gerry Lee Lewis were being thrown in clink for playing "The Devil's music ". 😂 Good luck ☑️

This is as raw as it gets. This is really a very cool piece of what rocked everybody. This was the first time for a huge amount of kids to see this. Electric guitars, amplifiers, 1956' this had to be huge.
I worked with a guy called Alan Johnson in Birmingham 1964, He claimed to have been a session guitarist and knew Gene. When he asked if I wanted to meet him I thought maybe I'll call his bluff, at 16 years of age I was easily led. The show was due at the Hall Green Technical College about 1/2 a mile from my home. We met at The Three Horse Shoes Pub, made our way to the College opposite and to the door at the side of the stage, "Tell Gene that big Al's here", very quickly Gene appeared on his sticks and clearly he knew Alan. Great show from the wings then a drink at the 'Shoes" after. Gene was drinking Brandy with Export chaser, all paid for by I think his manager Don Arden.
Gene Vincent was badass!! I was born ten years after Mr Vincent passed but he is truly a Legend of American music! What a cool lead guitarist he had as well. Mr Cliff!! I salute them both and his whole band!! Rock on!!!
Never saw any of these guys live or on TV, before my time. Was aware of their recordings but this vid throws a totally different light on their capabilities, and those of their bands. Brilliant live performers, innovators in every way, the first Blue Caps clip they almost look like proto punks ( well the bass player anyway), but really kick ass. To me, this just hasn't dated. Now I know why these guys had such reputations, and their bands ( Blue Caps in particular). Thanks for posting, much appreciated.
Gene Vincent was the very first live show I saw, in Kamloops with a very pretty date named Judy Summers. Mom had to drive us as I too young for a drivers license
This is a compilation of performances from the legendary California TV show "Town Hall Party", preserved on kinescope. This show ran locally for almost a decade, and was syndicated regionally. Films were shown on early Armed Forces Televison. THP featured mainly country music, but some rockabilly. Vincent was backed by the show's VERY professional house band, featuring guitar great Joe Maphis and Dick D' Augustine. For one season, there was also a nationally syndicated spin-off, "Ranch Party" (hosted by Tex Ritter). Other important artists who appeared regularly on THP include Johnny Cash, Larrie and Lorrie Collins, Carl Perkins, and Wanda Jackson. Maphis and the pre-teen Larrie Collins would often have guitar duels, sometimes sharing one double-neck axe! The show started on NBC radio, and the TV versions ran from 1953 to '61.
Unlike most TV shows (then and now), THP featured actual live performances before a paying audience (usually over 3,000 strong). RP was performed live in the studio.
The Collins kids! I saw them in '57 at Alan Freed's R&R party in NYC! There was also Dickey Doo & The Donts; Mickey & Sylvia; Billy & Lillie; Marvin Rainwater; JoAnne Campbell (blonde bombshell from Jacksonville Beach (Florida)..she was Rockabilly (should have been on THIS show!); There was also Danny & The Juniors; Little Joe & The Thrillers; LaVerne Baker, The Del Vikings & more famous artists like Little Richard, Fats Domino & Jerry Lee Lewis. (I went to 3 of those shows...fabulous!)
I grew up just down the street (Long Beach Blvd) and used to watch Town Hall Party on TV. One of the fun features I recall was the guitar duos with Joe Maphis and Larry Collins of the Collins KIds. Larry's older sister was Lorrie Collins, one time girlfriend of Ricky Nelson.

At the time the focus of blame was with the taxi driver and I know little more than that. I was however told that in the years immediately proceeding the fatality the taxi driver received a couple of beatings from supposedly, but very distorted , fans.@@amarshmuseconcepta6197

Eddie making it all look so easy, awesome
Wow I feel really priviliged to view this exceptional footage of Gene and Eddie. These guys paved the way for all the 60's groups who based themselves on good solid rock music , Buddy Holly was also a big influence also and he is my personal favourite. I keep asking myself " why did these guys die at so young an age" ? Heaven must be rockining ??
I believe Eddie Cochran influenced every garage rocker till about '67
This world is so full of talent. From the beginning until now. It amazes me.
I remember the good old days, I lived in Daly city California I went to Jefferson high school. I listened to the great oldies music this music brings me back to the good old days,
THanks for posting, Rockabilly legends!!
Gene Vincent was Incredible & his band The Blue Caps - Rock n Roll at it's Best !!!
LIstened to these guys when I was a teenager, when they were both alive and rockin'!
Holder folke first time I've seen Eddie Cochran on film great singer perhaps as good as Elvis. Great backing musicians.
Thanks for the upload. I have a tattoo on my arm R.I.P. Eddie Cochran he was my hero in the early 60's and despite my love of punk and reggae these days.. he will never be forgotten.
I hit the Like button the moment Gene Vincent's guitarists started playing and dancing. That was awesome!
... Now, to watch the rest of the video. =)
Man, we lost Eddie way too soon =(
that's the best thing I spent an hour watching in a LONG time .... i'm still blown away by Eddie Cochran.. for such a young kid he played with a maturity and fire a lot of pro's never reach. had he lived I am certain he would have been in the ranks of "Lennon / McCartney, and Jagger / Richard ... thanks Eddie .. :)
WOW! WOW! WOW! What a Fantastic Show! Thanks! So Much! For Posting! I Been A Fan Of Rock & Roll For Over 50 Years!
Be sure to say hi to me here if your a Rock & Roll Fan!, David From Calif.
Good luck ☑️

It's great to see Gene Vincent and Eddy Cochran performing. Thanks for posting.
So glad this still exists!!
Teenage john lennon absolutely LOVED eddie and vincent and was hugely inspired by both of them. He learned their songs and even had the same hairstyle at the time.
gutt-wrenchingly beautiful somewhere over the rainbow. i feel soooo lucky i found this video here on youtube. sublime gene vincent. and also eddie cochran. great musicians backing them up. amazing pianist.
both so great. rip.
who sang the best "Over the Rainbow"?
Be Bop A Lula was my favorite song when I was in second grade. My musical taste has expanded but never really changed.
Brings back so many great memories of Sweet Gene *** He rocked my world *** Always and forever in my heart *** I was blessed to know him for 14 wonderful years *** Loved him then and now *** Gene was "Magic" Miss him a lot . Simply loved him and his music ***

I'm reliving my teern age years, with Eddie Cochran and Grne Vincent and Carl Perkins. We had all the great. Music growing cup in this Era. Live the ",sax".
Eddie unbelievable guitarist... Jesus Christ, what a loss.........
I come from a world of thumping bass lines, funky band steps, and hip-swivelling individuality. wow ... not to mention smouldering presence. don't see it anywhere today.
Brian Setzer. That's where you can find it today. 😇
If any of you 56 Rock n Roll guys ever see a Gene Vincent CD in you music shop buy it there are many around most come out of England there not hard to get .I am 67 years old and RnR is the only music i listen to so ROCK IT .
In my day at school you were either a Gene or Eddie fan. Much argument as to who was the best! I was Gene!!
Well to be honest Eddie was more talented as he wrote all his own songs and played guitar and made up his own guitar riffs.
Country music making the jump over to rock and roll. I guess this is how it all started? Rockabilly.
Larry Collins so much better.
But made the mistake of living to old age.
I love how Gene introduces all his songs, brilliant! Sounds amazing live as expected! x
Love his early days of playing rock chords on his guitar

Town Hall Party must have been an incredible experience. Anything from Skeets McDonald to Gene Vincent, what a diverse group of talent!
I saw Gene Vincent on stage in 1963 East Ham London he was cool in leather gear and his injured leg didn’t stop him running and sliding across the top of a grand piano.
At the Granada?

Great to see this sort of footage. I'm only 52 but I loved Gene Vincent and the Blue Caps as well as Eddie Cochran when I was 12 or 13. What a gift youtube is that people can share rarites. Thanks for uploading.
+aristotle358 I agree mate, youtube really is a gift. I like the way you said 'I am only 52' I am 42 and I say 'only 42' regular and I'm sure I will say 'only 52' in ten years time. You are so right though, I was introduced to youtube about ten years ago when I first bought a laptop. I have been addicted to youtube ever since. If you love old music it is all here at your finger tips. My son is 15 so he doesn't appreciate it as much as I do because he has grown up with it. When I was his age I had records and the odd VHS video. Happy days my friend.

Sweet Gene Vincent with the thousand-yard stare.
No Gene, no Ian Dury, that's for sure. A great, great talent dogged by tragedy.
As for Eddie, another class act whose influence has rippled through the decades.
A massive influence on The Who, Jeff Beck, and Marc Bolan.

This is as raw as it gets. This is really a very cool piece of what rocked everybody. This was the first time for a huge amount of kids to see this. Electric guitars, amplifiers, 1956' this had to be huge.
Did they have rosewood board fender jazzmasters back in 56? I know they did in 59, that must have been an early one!
Absolutely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow!!!!! exciting, electric, and loads of attitude in your face.
This band has tons of chemistry great musicians .

Thx for posting this is epic and important rock history
Gene Vincent was the very first live show I saw, in Kamloops with a very pretty date named Judy Summers. Mom had to drive us as I too young for a drivers license
I love Eddie Cochran's sax player.
He's playin' what my dad called a "dirty sax."
Thank you so much for this precious information!
Witch year was this Gig, please ?? Month ??
I grew up just down the street (Long Beach Blvd) and used to watch Town Hall Party on TV. One of the fun features I recall was the guitar duos with Joe Maphis and Larry Collins of the Collins KIds. Larry's older sister was Lorrie Collins, one time girlfriend of Ricky Nelson.
So. Very good. The true roots of R & R.
Gene and company were highly popular in the UK and became influential on many of the young up-and-coming musicians that later became the British Invasion.
Excellent! Thanx for posting! Hello from Europe, Riga, country Latvia
