I felt the need to mention if you have a skeleton character or a squad of skellies if you rush to the skin bandit HQ speak to Savant and join the skin bandits. That'll make setting up a base in Sonorous Dark significantly easier. It also makes for a disturbing yet fun playthrough as a roving band of skin bandits, your only goal is to wander to the world, kidnap humans and bring them back to Sonorous Dark. Also why would a Paladins Cross having a 50% buff to skeletons make any difference? The Skin Bandits are OBVIOUSLY human, Savant told me himself.
Hence why the Paladin's Cross is used on Skeletons and people thought to be Skeletons: this is the ultimate Vibe Check cleaving blade. Skin Bandits wielding clubs happen to deal bonus damage to Skeletons as well. Not as high of a bonus but their stats certainly compensate for it and deal a lot of blunt damage which armor struggles to withstand. The downside to allying with Skin Bandits is losing rep with Crab Raiders unless the base is close enough for the patrol to issue a challenge for the Crab Tournament to prove your worth.
@@partnermammoth2562 There is a very popular mod that allows you to become canibals, deadhive, and other subraces. Its really good, check if out if you have the game
I came here to say thank you so much for providing such good information about Kenshi. The base building guide and armor guides really gave me a lot of insight into what a more experienced player priorities and I’m sure will save me a lot of heartache. For example, I had been literally buying all my armor.
I built inside the ash textured border with the ashlands. Add in a plant mod, and I have myself a "winter wonderland" theme home. Food growing in the areas with rain, and "snow" falling in the others. Very magical.
There is a cliff overlooking Sonorous Dark from the Pits, on my last playthrough where i ended up running two cityes of my own, i used to have squads of "Rangers" that would create and deffend expeditions / resupply outposts in the most dangerous aereas on the map. I made an outpost there, in addition to all the bad stuff already in Sonorous Dark they also had to deal with Reavers and Skeleton Bandits (I allied with the crab raiders) and just the usual hassle of building an outpost. It was a lot of fun, would do it again.
NJ resident here. My trips to the grocery store are never really complete without one or two run ins with skin bandits. Less acid raid than in Sonorous dark, though. So that's a plus.
Fuck yesssss more of this series! I have never managed to get good at Kenshi but I love watching these videos as a way to learn about the deeper game. It's like the equivalent of watching unsubbed foreign tv to learn a language, I start with no idea what's going on but with enough context clues it slowly becomes intelligible.
Yeah, this is one of those places you set up because you want to fight lots, basically I prioritize beds for fast recovery and I would rely on an external source of supply of food until I can get the other infrastructure going. Strong fighters is a must for this region, if some people go down in the first wave then you might not sustain yourself long-term. If you can clear a skin bandit wave with no KOs great, still no guarantee but that is a good sign.
You can also get all the skeleton npcs you can, discriminate all of the other fleshy beings and ally with the skin bandits. Outside of the crab raiders raids it is a pretty good place. Specially if you make your settlement right next to the Skin bandit hq
Twice I've collected 'the robots' and built a base on fishman isle called outer heaven. They can train in the relative safe and tax free environment of fishman isle while my organics do whatever I'm trying to do in the world. Then at some point the robots hatch or I retire to outer heaven to plot my revenge :P
I have a base there, right near skelli bandit HQ south of Anti-Slaver. It was hard to set up, as I mined up the stone and iron. Getting constantly attacked by the Southern Hive, when they get to about -70 they send 4 tough Gorillos. I got very lucky with Skin Bandits. Cause my guys are all skeli's I just walked in, then, killed matey, captured him and ran. I got him out of there, but all my guy went down apart from one guy who ran with their leader to my base..lol But now my base is solid, I have wiped the S/Hive and the Skin Bandits. I do have mods, one which made my life slightly easier was the prisoner recruit mod and the forgotten ones mod. I have a 60+ army of skelli's. After about 100+ hours they are starting to get quite tough, but to have this many skelli's means lots of micro management. and the early stages, repair kits made it very hard and putting this many skellis (the forgotten ones) all those error codes are a lot of work, and recruiting loads of them and naming them..urgh.. in the repair bed is also tedious. I have been mostly recruiting broken Modle30's, legion scouts and other rogue skellis. I did try to recruit Skelli bandits, but they cost a lot, so they just got their CPU's removed. I am gonna recruit all the stray broken skellis and take over the world..lol.. I love Kenshi so much
This location is outright hostile but the closest to the Ashlands while having the resources for iron and copper with some water and only hydroponics. As a side note, due to always acid rain conditions, many raiding factions will be softened by this, and at times Skin Bandits can be both helpful and harmful, as they can enter combat with just about any attacking faction, and will get distracted claiming bodies in the fight, especially with good base defense designs that make the most of the turret coverage or countersniping. Though as a consequence Skeleton guards defending the gate is a suggestion with good turret gunners that can lay covering fire for the squad that can brave many attackers while Skin Banditsa are very much disinterested in them for harvest potential. That being said, this location is good when planning for a base that is not expecting to be forging allegiances. Allies having acid rain protection depend on the faction.
So... this sounds great and all, but I think I will expand my industrial park and continue to gentrify The Hub. Turns out you can get wells as close as the big iron rock just down the hill. Having trouble automating the process, but I can still grow a heck of a lot of hemp.
Have you ever thought about doing a video about mods? I notice you have the dark mode HUD but I'd be curious to know your opinion on modding the game. QoL improvements, visual mods, combat animations, anything that would be useful or enhance the experience.
What bugs me about this game tho is that you can cheese anything even living here, just enclose yourself with walls and no Gates Or have a high stealth assassin character Or just join the skin bandit with a skeleton
Walls can get attacked and destroyed along with any turrets installed there if there's no pathing available, which can happen while a gate is opening. And it will occur during base raid events.
Hmmm. I was just about to settle floodlands in my current playthrough to be neighbors with Burn but now I want to make a base in Sonorous with my 4 characters. Their stats are all in the 50s, my main char made masterwork dustcoats and crab armor for everyone plus both humans and cyberbeep have scout legs already since I set dismemberment to frequent. I think I might be able to do it. Worst case scenario Agnu in crab armor can tank them for a while as I run away.
@@paulrogersgaming Nah they're fine. I cleared out a place for it and started building a watchtower already. Agnu tanking in crab armor with 60-ish stats is enough for others to eagle cross/harpoon down the skin bandits. Aalso - rain collectors fill up surprisingly fast in sonorous, apparently the rain is only sometimes acidic.
It's not the prettiest tactic, but if you go to the skin bandits' base and put one of them in each of the peeling machines, they will stop kidnapping you because they have nowhere to put you. It's like the "I'm stuck, stepbrother" tactic but with a psychopathic skeleton and a peeling machine.
Oh man. My favourite Kenshi real estate agent is back!

You use paladins cross against everybody just to make sure they are not skeletons. Agents of Darkness are everywhere brother.

Savant is a normal human being like you and me.
I destroy the Skin Bandits. The choice is not a moral one. All skin is _my_ skin and they're stealing it from *me*
