They wouldn't have known it'd be their least favorite until they played the other routes. Could've been a case of being onto one side when they played other routes. Case in point, Edelgard's motives are "you agree or disagree". Perhaps a war could've been avoided, but the argument I use is from others. Diplomatic matters forced Edelgard to have Fodlan's view on Crest's changed faster than using a drawn-out diplomatic argument. This is due to her shortened life span, which was the exact same situation as Lysithea. If she hadn't ensued the war, she wouldn't live long enough to see a united Fodlan, where everyone can rise and fall by their own merits whether or not they have a crest exist.
What can I say. I prefer to delay the inevitable. And playing the worst part of a game first tends to put me off the rest, I had a strong distain for all of fire emblem fates for a long time because I made the mistake of playing conquest first.

Even if you kill her in BL, her last moments are both a final demonstration of her convictions, and a kind of goodbye to her old friend. Dimitri on the other hand, is you playing therapist to a psychopath. If you don't pick him, he remains the same revenge-driven asshole the whole way through. His ENTIRE CHARACTER ARC is completely reliant on the professor, unlike *any other lord in the game!* Hell, even Rhea is more sympathetic! The person actively trying to erase your existence so her god mom can take over your body. SHE is a better written, more relatable character than Mr. Kill-Every-Last-One-Of-Them! If your character's growth is entirely dependent on another person, then you've written a bad character.

Dimitri then becomes a king dedicated to atoning for his sins while still never being free from his past and the voices hes made the decision to live in the present to fight to defend others and what he loves while seeking an end through understanding a far cry from Edlegard who sends thousands to die for a future they may not believe in and doesn't work

i haven't played the other houses so if they're actually better i'll update this comment, but for what i do know this house is REALLY good so if the other houses are supposedly better my expectations are high
Edit: Blue Lions was a very enjoyable experience. Learning more about El's backstory has greatly increased my support for her house. tl;dr all routes are 10/10 except silver snow, which is a 6.5/10
