  • A few years ago I converted a Peugeot partner into a little micro camper for little trips out for my photography, and as I have a spinal problem wanted something that could take anywhere, so in this video I talk about why I chose a small camper and the reasons one may be good for you, though in future video will go into the cons, so make sure you SUBSCRIBE for that that.

I’ve just bought a mark one Berlingo to make into a little campervan.
I had one a few years ago and it was bomb proof plus brilliant economy too.

I was looking at the Berlingo, as better fold down front seats, but couldn't find one, though the citreon and Peugeot are basically the same frame, well good luck with yours

We are mainly ‘just for the weekend van life’
That being said, we’ve done several 10 day and two week trips in our Berlingo XTR. I have to say though, they are easier in the summer.

Looks like you bought the Partner for the same reasons I opted for the Caddy! Easier to live with, easier to run and then yeah - who suspects its a micro camper!
Hoping to put mine on the ferry up to Shetland later on this year, if I can stomach the trip 😜

Good see you out n about. Weather getting lot better as well. I've got myself an old Berlingo multispace with boot jump, as need the seats as well. Couple chillaxe days out is all I've done so far, but a night adventure won't be far away. So totally agree, size is so practical and good mpg. Take care

1.23 in and I stopped. You started to make all sorts of silly reasons to have a microcamper.
There are some good reasons. You are young, you are a couple, provided the bed pulls out. You like touristy towns with 2m 10cm height barriers. You do short trips. You want to travel cheaply, you have restrictions on what you can park outside your home, or even on your drive.
Reasons to have a bigger camper. So I have a Citroen Relay H2L3, so I'll focus on this size, because most commercial campervan builds use this size of van, and the model platform, be that Fiat, Peugeot, or Citroen.
You can stand up, amazing. You can dress in comfort. You can have four belted passengers, 4 can sit around a table, you can carry a good selection of cooking items, crockery, mugs, glasses, you can have a waist height fridge freeze, mine is 90L. This means you don't need to bend down to see and find things. You have loads of storage. I have five over head cupboards, over head cab locker, a big food cuboad, a big pan draw, a crockery draw, a utensils draw, and under sink bin in a cuboard, and 4 large draws for underwear, bits and bobs. I have a permenet fixed double bed. So nice to just get into for a kip at the motorway services for an hour, or waiting to board a ferry, just pull the duvet back. I have a composting toilet, and 80L fresh water tank, and extras, and a waste water tank. I have a huge leisure battery, a big solar panel, and I've wild camped in Scotland with loads of cloud cover, and I've still not used shore power. Under the bed, I have loads of storage space. A huge plus, you have a very high driving position, so you get all the views. I can probably think of more, but...
I only get 31mpg, sometimes 33 on a long run. Itwon't fit under Freemason's 2m10 barriers, but who wants to visit these tacky seaside towns? Not me. I generally don't even visit beaches with big public car parks.
I am older, I want a certain amount of comfort, and most sheeple don't even know it's a campervan.
While I am ranting, here are some reasons why I wouldn't have a coach built Motorhome. My Citroen 6m van could have been a minibus, so it's fully safety tested, and has a body which is designed to crumple. Okay, there's lots a dangerous build bits, but is way, way safer than what is effectively a caravan behind you, maybe with passengers, often lambs, and if you get rear ended, or sandwiched, you're going to see some jam. There's a reason why you can't travel in a caravan when it's moving.
There's no right or wrong vehicle to go camping, or camp in the vehicle. I do think you need to really consider what you want. I put so much work into my conversion, that I can't see myself selling it. If you go for a microcamper, you might wish you had gone bigger. As a rule, the bigger the unit, the more crap you'll stuff into it, so you need tons of discipline, or you'll be carting tons about. Believe me, bigger van views are worth it. 31mpg, 90 liter tank, so easy 500 plus range, you don't want to go too low. I find with good tyres, they last a long time.

Hi I have a converted Peugeot Expert. I have been away in it every weekend for the last 12 months.
Due to rental increase I am planning on full timing from March (not permanently).
I am 54, have autism and one or two other conditions.
    Nice video, just subbed.

I have a Berlingo and I just brought a Panda matress topper for a single bed and it's sub 100 quid and so comfy!
p.s. subscribd!! I've only done campsites currently but Thurs night gunna attempt a stealth camp. I feel like the black out on the back doesn't give anything away, it's more so when the front windows are blacked out it makes it more obvious. Did you find this? I'm going solo so scared I'm gunna get the knock from the police or something (even though, I'm camping in a legal place....road with no obstructions/ signs). I have a backup spot if needed and there's a paid for stop-over if needed (but have to ring in advance-so dunno how that would work if I do do it last minute).

I think you can make it longer on one side by tilting the passenger side seat forward for the night. Many japanese vanlifers do it, so they can fit into their kei car.

Was planning to get a Peugeot Partner myself for a basic stealth camper, but I found living in inner London the insurance for a van is very expensive £1000 a year, much more than compared to a car.

Get a quote for a Berlingo muttispace desire, as they are a car, so will hopefully be insured priced like a car, same as matey here says is his a car too, not a van. You don't need to actually buy the van version to make a little camper. You'll probably have yo get a petrol version maybe 1.4, ? So you don't get clobbered by the ULEZ ROBBERY! I don't know the specifics of disgusting ULEZ. Good luck.

the partner and berlingo are the same frame, my insurance just under 600, but I also have business insurance as well, I get stung for the clean air zone in Birmingham as mine 2l deiseal, but never go into the city anyway

@KevinSimon Nobody shouodbpay any of these charges or fines, Ive never ever paid & fine or charge rekated to a car, ukkess enfirced by a court, even then, Im not sure I akways have, nevervoaid. Oarkingvticket, thats fir sure. Im from WhittingtonLixhfieks, but live in Cornwall, I dinrvkniw anythingabout charges in Brum, so, if I go to The Villa will I be 'due' a fine,? Or, as I'd probably do, drive to Blake St Station & get the train the rest of the way? I gave the 2 ltr diesel Berlingo Desire Multispace. Cheers. D
