I live up north. For 5 years I saved to send my daughter and grandchild to Disney ( off season ). Every year they raised the price beyond my savings. Finally she got married so I put money there. I was able to pay for the wedding, reception and honeymoon for less than the Disney trip.

@@JasonTaylor-po5xc funny how u mention homeowners insurance...I bought car insurance from the Hartford and they being based out of Connecticut were in the state of extacy talking to me because I live in heaven (Central Florida) and according to them all I do is party and go to Disney and never work..I called Hartford again because I wanted to bundle my homeowners insurance with my car. insurance ...they said they don't write homeowners insurance policies in Florida...I told them how ironic is that when u sold me car insurance u acted like lived in a constant state of extacy and everyday was a combination of sex drugs and rock n roll...now all of a sudden u can't write a homeowners insurance policy in Florida?....I thought I I lived in heaven ...they were at a loss for words...in reality alot of companies have left Florida...last year I got a good deal from Farmers but I'm bracing for the worst when I have to renew in July...my friends don't sound reassuring either..

I had a 90 year old house in Jacksonville, bought when it was 55-60 years old, for 2 DECADES I had insurance on it with State Farm as a rental property (as I was living out of state). When I moved back in and wanted to change it back to a regular homeowner's policy...State Farm said sorry, we aren't writing new homeowner's policies. They also had my car insurance, but if they wouldn't insure my house, they wouldn't get my car. Due to the age of the house, and the age of the roof, only 1 company would insure me. Insurance for the time I owned the house, before selling, was $2400/year (in the early 2000s).
Talking with insurance agents, and watching trends I have come to some conclusions: A.) Insurance companies are responsible for the steep roof angles on new Florida homes (more hurricane tolerant). B.) After balking at insuring houses with roofs over 25 years old, insurance companies have been pushing for roofs to be regularly replaced at more frequent intervals. Currently the unofficial age is about 20...and within a few years it will be 10 years. Of course, that assumes there are any insurance companies still writing policies in 5 years. One big hurricane and they will leave.
Car insurance is almost as ridiculous, depending on where you live.

This is the most honest assessment. Even for someone invested in Disney. Thank You for the honesty.
Yes Disney pays a lot in taxes. Except. Universal Studios and Sea World’s property is accessed at their true value. The Orange County accessor is already recalculating the true value of Disney’s property. Disney will then be taxed at the same rate as Universal Studios, Sea World and all other property owners in Orange County. Yes Orange County will take over the utilities, fire, police and the paramedics. Just as Orange County does for all property owners. Disney will have to pay almost three times what they are paying in taxes. All property owners will pay equal taxes.
Next is the tax free bonds. The bonds were sold to Disney and a few friends. This type of bond was created to build low income rental apartments. Disney used this money to build 2 luxury resorts (their isn’t any low income apartments in these resorts). This is an illegal fraud. Instead of paying for the resorts. Disney and a few special friends bought these high interest tax free bonds. Disney got away with it because they are there own government without any outside oversight. When Reedy Creek is dissolved. Disney will be forced to pay off the 2 tax free bonds or face huge (really big) civil fines and criminal charges for everyone who bought these bonds. These fraudulent bonds won’t cost Orange County property owners nothing. Orange County will receive a windfall.
Everyone believes that Disney is good, their is a dark and evil side of Disney.
I DARE ANY PRO DISNEY PERSON TO RESPOND AND PROVE ME WRONG. IF ANYONE CAN PROVE ME WRONG I WILL PAY THEM $5,000.00.

I disagree with your assessment. He left out important information for prospective families or those couples looking to raise kids in the future as home owners in Florida. The state of Florida is pro-family, pro-parental rights, and pro-kids. Disney may be showing its true colors (or perhaps purposely misinformed) by opposing the legislature and wanting to use its monetary power to change the government. That threat cannot be ignored. Once again, our governor has come to the rescue of the people, families, and kids he and his administration govern. A government that defends kids from being taught by sick adults about sexual orientation before they are in the 4th grade is admirable. Deranged adults engaged in such behaviour (teaching sexual orientation to little kids) are reprehensible and Disney supporting these adults is unimaginably sick. A government that protects families has got to be an attractive point to so many potential home buyers. I truly hope Disney chooses to be on the side of families and kids who love their products and services.

I don't know about how FD's work where you are, so don't take this as me rolling my eyes at you. Where I am, it's SOP for both paid and volunteer departments to call neighboring departments for mutual aid on every call that involves more than a single station (i.e. one engine and one support unit), if for no other reason as to have local units in reserve to command incidents within the jurisdiction since they are more familiar with the infrastructure, hazards, and properties in question. Once the OIC or the preplan calls for a second assignment, mutual aid is dispatched, even if it's just a standby.
The other thing that I think we have all experienced is the severe lack of personnel available at our station houses. I have heard that RCID is understaffed, but I don't know how hard they are trying to staff up. Where I am, it's tough to recruit.

Great video Ken! It’s going to be interesting how this plays out, and if this political fog will spook investors in the short term causing them to sell before the tax burden potentially wipes out cash flow. I imagine this will cause people to give second thoughts to homes in other areas… bringing more demand to areas like Clermont, Lake Mary, Sanford and Winter Haven where property values are comparatively lower and so are property taxes.

Thank you for being honest and not so political. And I think you are correct about Floridaians NOT HAVING to pay more taxes cause it just does not make any sense. Disney is just loosing it's tax free advantage Which is a major blow. The ability for these Tax privileged special districts to SET THEIR OWN TAX means they never actually pay THEIR OWN TAXES. They set an extremely high tax (3x tax or more) on Consumers so each transaction pays Florida's 6.25% state tax plus another 12% or more For Disney's maintenance fees. Essentially each transaction pay ITS OWN TAX Plus alot more. Why do you think everything Disney sells on its property is INSANELY EXPENSIVE. Now with this privilege gone they're just gonna shell out more taxes and NOT BE ABLE TO COLLECT TAXES from businesses in Reedy creek district. Those businesses will be paying taxes directly to Orange/Osceola county.

Of course it makes sense they asked for this special privilege when they started building the Walt Disney World Resort. They are a modern marvel and showed how to build an infrastructure and do it very well. I worked for WDW for 18 years and first visited as a child in 1976. I have seen the company grow and grow. It’s a joke that anyone would suggest moving WDW out of state. People saying that are clueless as to what WDW means to so many people all over the world. It is HOME to so many people, including me. I am sickened that this whole situation is going on. In my opinion, the company unfortunately has alienated many of its biggest fans. They should have stayed out of the political arena. No one would have been that upset long term if they had remained silent on this issue. Disney has always been supportive of the gay community and people who work there know it. This was just grandstanding on the part of these cast members who twisted Bob Chapek’s arm to speak out. He’s a marketing guy so it makes perfect sense that his first instinct was to say NOTHING.

Orange County or Osceola County could set up a new special district to allow for the same allocation of funds for reedy creek. The legislation is looking into ways to allow for certain cuts to Disney's allowed tax breaks while allowing them to keep Reedy Creek as well. Also when you speak your first amendment rights that does not come without consequences.
Separately, the tax cuts on water and sewer and power that Disney receives as well as the resort tax credits would now go to the appropriate counties. All DVC deeded properties would now be taxed by the appropriate counties. These are details noone seems to think about. It's not all negative. What is the value of that privilege? What is the gross tax revenue of all types garnered from Disney as a % of their revenue from that park? How does it compare to their peers. If their special status was revoked and they needed those support functions from Orange county , that tax would be extracted from Disney, obviously, not from the surrounding homeowners - that was a ridiculous assertion. We dont need corporatism and we dont 'need' Disney tourist anymore. That money is mostly spent inside of Disneys sovereign nation, not in our cities. Finally, Disney literally sucks and I pity people who are amused by it, but thats a personal bias.

Your opening statement is spot on just as Chapek’s initial response to stay out of it and not become a political football was the correct response. Ultimately Disney has a duty to make profits for its shareholders. Regardless of what one’s personal beliefs are there will always be an equal amount of opposing views and a business that chooses any one side will not only alienate half of their consumers it could also alienate a significant amount of their investors. That is a poor business plan for anyone no matter how much influence you think you have or how righteous you believe your cause to be. So many were already on the fence about spending money on Disney given all the pricing increases and various changes made over the past few years. This unnecessary position Disney has taken has surely pushed many of those ‘on the fence’ consumers elsewhere. Disney stock closed at $118 this past week. 14% down in past month, 24.5% down year-over-year. Shareholders already weren’t too happy.

Just some things to think about with this, not taking a stance is, in and of itself, a stance. Look at all the employees that stopped working prior to Disney's statement. You had whole productions shut down. From a pure business stance, an entertainment company struggles if they're not making entertainment.
I will also say simplifying every issue to 50/50 is plain wrong. Looking at the most simple thing, presidential election popular vote results, in 4 of the last 10 presidential elections the winning candidate has not received 50% of the vote which means if you alienate even the winning side in those climates you're alienating as little as 43% of people, in the other six years if you take the side of the winner it's literally impossible that you're alienating 50% of people, at worst, you're alienating 49% of people.

Short of Disney going to court (which they will) the state only has 2 options , take over the bond and help the county service the bond payments … OR create a new tax district one that the state controls without Disney running it; they would set up some sort of county over site board. But the problem with that is they can’t setup a new bond until the old bond is dealt with, and the legislature dissolved the district without dealing with the Bond. So really now only the court can sort this out. The court will force the state to either re establish the district or pay the bond … period. On December 2021, SUSAN ARNOLD was appointed to replace Bob Iger as chair of the board at The Walt Disney Company and became the first woman to be appointed to this position in the 98-year history of Disney. She became chair on December 31, 2021. For 98 years Mickey, Goofy and the seven dwarves have never had a female boss. These beloved Disney characters will certainly need family counseling sessions with a certified family counselor to adapt to their new female boss.
Preferably, the family counselors chosen for the Mouseketeer family will have met the following requirements:
The successful completion of: at least three thousand (3000) hours of documented, supervised post- graduate counseling work experience over a period of at least twenty four (24) months; and, at least one hundred (100) hours
of supervision over a minimum period of twenty four (24) months. The applicant’s completion of this experience requirement must be verified by the applicant’s supervisor(s) and of course the CEO of Disney Sue Arnold.
[NOTE: This requirement may be waived if the appIicant has spent the minimum of two years living in cardboard boxes, sleeping under bridges and pushing shopping carts around Los Angeles and it’s surrounding communities.]

This guy is doing nothing but pushing BS, the only residents that are going to be harmed by the reedy creek end is the residents living in the bay lake and lake buena vista area, and that is only 5 or 6 houses that are in the city of Bay lake which is Disney property. The remainder of the bay lake and all of buena vista area is covered in Disney World Resort and Amusement parks. So Disney will have to foot the bill.

Do you believe that Disney would have stayed in control of Reedy Creek for 50 years if it wasn't to their advantage or making money for them?
In the history of any state in of America exactly how many times has a state governor allowed anything like Reedy Creek to ever happen? It must not have been beneficial for the state of Florida to enter another agreement like this (and lose tens of millions of dollars in annual taxes and permits) because Florida has never done anything like this with any other company other than Disney.
Finally, the big question is whether or not the local districts, communities, tax payers, the state itself and other theme parks in the state benefited or were actually hurt by Disney having special privileges and not paying tens of millions of dollars annually in taxes?
If this new bill wouldn't hurt Disney then why would they be fighting it and going after Governor Desantis with their lobbyists and the MSM so hard?

This was border line click bait. I get that there is a possibility of the bond payment impacting taxes but what about the other things you spoke about. Law enforcement, fire, and ems not to mention other infrastructure items that will drive up property taxes becuase the county having to flip the bill. I understand that disney will have to cover some of this cost but the rest will fall on the tax payer. Give some stats on what those amounts are. If this was just so you can tell us to use your business give us a better message than just it could impact you or it could not and I'm sure the politicians will work it out
