I worship Joe Tex. The greatest soul man. No other singer covered so many styles. Country..comedy..deep soul..funk..disco. Play his music all the time..
FlyingOwns, evidently, Joe Tex didnt have the right promoter/manager/agent. Thus, he fell FAR short of where he could have gone in the music industry. Nevertheless, he had at career in music/singing/entertaining, that a great majority of people in the above three categories can only dream of having.
Joe Tex reminds me of a cross between Sam Cooke and James Brown. He reminds me of Sam Cooke in that he had a suave and charming demeanor, and the ability to be sweet and gentle with ease. But could also shout, dance and lose it like James Brown.
@@brownin329 James Brown may have, and that's a time-honoured debate in itself. But Sam Cooke didn't. Sam Cooke had been singing with the Soul Stirrers for years before Joe Tex released his first record, and by all accounts from those who saw him, Sam began to develop his style during the Soul Stirrers days. I believe Joe Tex would have been inspired by Sam Cooke.
On this day in 1967 {December 31st} "Skinny Legs and All" by Joe Tex peaked at #10 {for 3 weeks} on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; it had entered the chart on October 22nd and spent 15 weeks on the Top 100... It reached #2 on Billboard's R&B Singles chart... Between 1964 and 1979 he had thirty-five hits on the R&B Singles chart; with eleven making the Top 10 and four reaching #1; "Hold What You've Got" {1964}, "I Want To (Do Everything For You)" {1965}, "A Sweet Woman Like You" {1966}, and "I Gotcha" {1972}... R.I.P. Mr. Tex, born Joseph Arrington, Jr., {1933 - 1982}...
James Brown actually stole Joe Tex moves. Back in the day they would feud over who was the best. lol Whoever downloaded this . . . thank you, thank you, thank you for the good memories.
They should have had a "full screen," showing at 4:38. Thats where Joe turned around and went towards the floor. It would have been great to see what kind of, "split" he did at that point.
5:24 Anyone know he does that thing with microphone that keeps swinging back at him & finally falls into his hands when he's split on the floor????!!!!
Gives it a shove with his right hand....and gave it a harder shove so it would;d fall too him. Had to have it all timed right when you was done. Awesome job. Not easy at all
@@davereiter8433 Thanks. Not easy is right. Wish I'd seen it live. As a closing routine, I think even it beats James Brown's cloak-falling-off-back routine.
@@davereiter8433 Thanks. I see the right hand push. But what makes it rock to him instead of falling away from him? But this is small stuff. What a great clip this is. His cheerful, Skip A Rope, about kids at play talking about their parents' fights - only Joe Tex or Curtis would come up with that one. Soulful guy.
That is Total B.S. Okee Konokee. Apparently, you do not know about James Brown. He wasn't called, "Soul Brother Number 1," for nothing. Other nicknames for him were, "The Godfather of Soul," and, "Mr.Dynamite." Also, he had a dance named after him. It was called, "The James Brown." With all due respect to Joe Tex, he could only dream of dancing, shouting, and having such nicknames as the superior James Brown. 👍☺

Joe Tex is an incredible performer! Why he didn't make it bigger than he did is beyond comprehension. What a talent!

James Brown was the reason .
They did the same dance style.
Joe tex was better
JAMES BROWN would be the reason why
Joe Tex-a top notch showman, every time! This is a real gem to see, especially today. There's NO ONE today like him. And that band is incredible, too!
In the mid 60's I went to a Joe Tex show at the Sam Houston Coliseum in Houston Texas. Great performer and great band.
This show is the best thing I have seen in a long time, wow! That band!
He was a natural born showman.
Love this ! Priceless!!!!!!!!!! R.I.P. Uncle Norman and Joe Tex.
The split to knee drop near the end with the mic dropping right into his hand is utterly badass.
Agree
Totally !
I sxaw Joe Tex LIVE Sept. 1966 & Mary Wells was his co-star on a big show at Orlando Municipal Auditorium. GREAT.

Both of them inherited their styles from Joe Tex!

Is there anyone out there that caught Joe and his band in London, late 60's or early 70's in I believe the Shaftesbury Theatre ?

Marinoni Claudio in Milan

Love Joe Tex I know he became a Muslim later in his life Hussin last name I think ❤
Joe's band is almost as tight as The JB's.
If I'm not mistaken I do believe the drummer on this show is the legendary late great Clyde Stubblefield
wish someone would name all the band members
TL Harris, his name happens to be Clyde Williams.
Clyde Williams was the drummer.
what an entertainer. James Brown had nothing on this man.
U can't be serious. Stop talking crazy...

who was the drummer on this recording
Joey Leone, his name is Clyde Williams.
So, who "stole" or copied the stage act from the other: James Brown, or Joe Tex? I watched JB live twice in Zambia. My money is on JT.
He's alot easier on the eyes but no he not better then James Brown
