Chetan Mahajan was a regular US returned Corporate guy till 2012, Then suddenly he found himself in jail for a company he had joined just 3 months before. What was meant to be an overnight stay went into 30 days. But, it led to his book "The Bad Boys of Bokaro Jail". He eventually quit the company and joined another, only to be laid off. He was then laid off for the second time, after which, he moved to the hills with his family. He then went on to set up the "Himalayan Writing Retreat". Story of true grit but there are people who are and have faced a lot worse. Mr Mahajan has done the Indian upper middle class great service by bringing out the sad story of under trials in Indian jails. He has shown that no matter your title the Indian society’s ‘look down, shoot down’ approach towards anyone who has anything to do with the police. All the whispers in the colony and the family and all the denials of opportunity are the ground level form of oppression that a so-called liberal society tends to subject people who they consider ‘failures’.
