Nice setup! I have an older Cannon Mini-Mag mounted centrally behind my seat (Outback/Revo13). The electric is definitely nice on the deep trolling days… I swapped out the steel cable for 80lb braid, this cut down on the drag significantly (scope/turning). A rudder upgrade made a huge difference on both of mine too.

I finally got a chance to try it out a couple weeks after I finished it, not deep for salmon but 30-40' down for Kokanee and it worked great! I also use braid on my downriggers, less about the drag and more to get rid of the hum the steel makes and also to allow me to cut the line easier and quicker if I get into a bad situation. I've got a SAI XL rudder waiting to go on, hopefully that will help some with the Outback wanting to turn towards the downrigger ball at slower speeds (when using the 8lb ball).

Definitely don’t want to use cable in a kayak! Swap that out for 150-200# braided. The downrigger isn’t light. I’m running mine with a 6# fish shaped rigger ball with no issues so you could loose 2# of weight that’s hanging off the side. Like the set up!

It's got Scotty braid on it. I don't run steel on any of my 3 downriggers, to hard to cut fast if you need to (and it hums).

Great video! How are you powering your fish finder when you have it and the electric downrigger on there and where do you mount the fish finder?

Thanks. I mount the fish finder on the left side, slid as far front on the t-track as it will go. I have a 10ah battery in the front hatch using the hobie cage that mounts to the sail mast tube. Didn't want to run both off the same battery.

Are you planning to add a video for a test on the water?

Yeah, I tried it out Kokanee down about 40 feet and it worked great. Salmon season is just about here so will get some video when I manage to get out there again.

@@NorthWestKayakFishing nice! Is it posible to shorten the boom, basically cutting in and mount it again?

Just posted a followup with me using it for Salmon. th-cam.com/video/NSABn1eETNQ/w-d-xo.html

Do you notice any noticeable lean on the side of downrigger?

I've not had it out on the water yet with the electric. I have a similar setup I've been using with the Scotty 1060 manual and an 8 lb ball and didn't have any noticeable lean and this is only slightly heavier. One thing I did notice and allude to at the end of the video is that if I'm going less than 1.5 mph when using the 8 lb ball and even if I have the rudder cranked all the way to the left the kayak wants to turn towards the ball on the right. If I speed up over 15 it straightens out, one think I'm going to try to alleviate this is an aluminum XL rudder from SAI. Won't know about that for a while yet though.
