- In this video, a day in my life with cerebral palsy, we visit Dallas' neurosurgeon to check up on her shunt. Hydrocephalus is a condition in which fluid accumulates in the brain. A shunt is a device placed in the brain to help drain the fluid. We were concerned that something could be going wrong with her shunt so Dallas had an MRI to check on things..

So I got a shunt in December… First of all excellent descriptive information and I can help you with knowing what the number means. There scale is actually backwards the lower the number the more fluid it drains. I had issues last week and they had to adjust mine to a six it was at eight which is essentially off. For some reason we can’t figure out my ventricles keep changing sizes… Hopefully this stabilizes soon but I got to spend some time in the hospital very unexpectedly. If it’s a headache to do with your shunt for me anyway it feels like my head is in a vice and I get very mentally foggy and almost frozen. I hope this helps. I’m glad everything turned out to be OK. MRIs are scary but I’ve grown to like them they make me relax I had to have one for over an hour last week and then they sent me to ICU but everything is all good now. Sending love
