      I find here the condensed timeless time one neither grasp nor taste in reality. Thank you!

    I like your passenger wagon weathering. It's a fine line between "straight off the factory floor" and "pulled from a disused siding after 50 years" and all your rolling stock treads it perfectly.

      Thank you, appreciate it. You’re right it can be hard to get that balance!

    I have never seen such realism on a model railway. Almost unbelievably brilliant! The scenery - attention to detail and particularly the 'weathering' is simply outstanding.

      I was into HO scale modeling a LONG time ago when you had to build your own engine and running gear from die cast kits (1950's). Such excellent detailing and scenery like you show wasn't even thought about at that time since we had to stumble over other problems. We had to make sure we had the correct rectifier for the transformer so things didn't start to smoke on the layout. Speed control was another issue and things got pretty jerky at times. It sure is a pleasure to see the work you have done and it is highly appreciated.

    What a beautiful layout you have created there. To avoid the temptation of throwing lots of track down in favour of a sleepy backwater is to be commended. The contours flow so naturally and that rocky riverbed is just a delight. Please show us more. I've subbed in anticipation. Paul

    • @struck2soon
      @struck2soon 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mouldy raspberry I mainly model US stuff,(see some of my uploads) and have found the Tsunami Econami decoders to be excellent value for money...and they now do them in UK sounds as well. The great thing with them is that you get a range of different sounds you can select, unlike the crap Zimo decoder I just purchased for one of my French steam locos...it has very ability to make sound changes. I am a relative newcomer to dcc sound, but happy to try and help if needed. Cheers, Tommo

    Hello....!
    Your engines run extremely quietly, might I enquire as to how you’ve achieved it, also the weathering details....wow! I especially love where you see ‘real’ weeds in through the tracks, astonishing detail
    Also I love the fact that none of your locomotives are ‘run-always’ there’s always a driver or stoker!

    • @MouldyRaspberry
      @MouldyRaspberry  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Ross, appreciate it. I haven’t done anything specific to try and make them run quietly, so maybe it’s just the way the camera picked up the sound. Some are definitely noisier than others! I’ve seen some people lay cork under the track to reduce noise but once you’ve ballasted and it’s set, I don’t think it makes any difference.

    • @rossmorrow3013

    That's awfully darn good for "a few months in"! I'm on the other side of the pond, and can tell from experience that few railways ever get this finished looking! I also have to give a tip o' the hat to Brit modellers in general, who seem to have a universal talent for lush green landscapes! It's really quite lovely, and something that seems to avoid a lot of North American hobbyists, even when trying to model the Wet Coast or Eastern States.

    thanks for sharing, I'm a bit worried about the dry riverbed. I know we have a very dry summer season in Western Australia and creek beds do dry out quick but in the Yorkshire Dales this shouldn't occur, its usually lush and green and plenty of rain

    Scenic skills 12/10, they are fantastic. Interesting track plan, its simplicity belies the permutations that you will find possible. Minor quibble, very minor, a few of the buildings and some parts of the platforms are "floating", i.e. gaps at ground level. Given your scenic skills I imagine you are aware of this. Have subbed and look forward to seeing more of this layout. Thank you for sharing, it's an inspiration.

    • @MouldyRaspberry
      @MouldyRaspberry  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks very much! Those gaps have really been bugging me, the worst of which I think is around the base of the cottages and at the platform ends. The cottage porches now have flower beds in front however, although the gaps certainly need touching up. Thanks for the sub.

    Model railways represent our own choice of location & type, depending on our mood. Some folk like warrens with trains popping here & there constantly, I enjoy them, make no mistake. This model I like because it slows everything down. A point to point system, which means each train & each movement has a purpose. You can sit with a cuppa & hope that something will emerge. "Quick, where's me note book"? Brill.

    Hi, there is a lot of great weathering on rolling stock (I'm not ready to do that on my1950-1960 HD stock yet - although I have converted 3rail to DCC and sit there dreaming of "daysgonebye") but have you thought of putting some "spare" sleepers (which we all have many) in a lot of those gaps at the end of track sections? It will add a lot to what is a great layout.

    • @MouldyRaspberry
      @MouldyRaspberry  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks very much, sounds like you’ve got quite a task to weather all that stock! I have indeed done that, this video was posted 8 months ago so the layouts come on a fair bit since then! Thanks for your comment.

    • @MouldyRaspberry
      @MouldyRaspberry  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s just a really old Hornby Dublo wagon I think, so the flanges on the wheels are a bit too chunky for modern points. I’ll have to change them eventually.

    How has your loft layout survive the heat wave of this summer of 2018? Many of the non air conditioned lofts and garden sheds have bit the dust this summer in the UK. Tracks separating from the sleepers as the tracks have expanded, especially flex track...

      Hi Ron, fortunately I haven’t had any problems. When I laid the track I left reasonably large gaps in between the joints for expansion, so this has prevented any buckling of track.

    Love the look of your layout, is there any chance you could put up a track plan of the layout....Cheers Greg from Australia

    That's really beautiful. The grass is so realistic. How did you make it?

    • @MouldyRaspberry
      @MouldyRaspberry  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks very much. It’s static grass by a company called Peco. You use a little battery powered applicator to apply it in layers. They applicators are expensive but I got mine off eBay for £14.

      @@MouldyRaspberry Thanks for that information. I'm just working my way through your other videos on construction and landscaping which are extremely useful. Thanks for taking the time to put them on line.

    How do you create the elevation? Eg. hills, tunnels through higher hills, etc.

    • @MouldyRaspberry
      @MouldyRaspberry  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are quite a few videos of all that sort of thing on the channel, but I mainly used polystyrene and then covered this in plaster bandage or papier maché.

    I really like the depth that you've achieved on a 2 foot width. It's exactly right for a slow country railway like the KWVR and NYMR. What else have you got planned for it?

    • @MouldyRaspberry
      @MouldyRaspberry  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, appreciate the comment. The KWVR in particular was a big inspiration for this layout. Plans for the moment are to really add a lot more detail to the scenery, particularly the river, some of the fields and the cottage allotments. In the long run I might even extend it further, there’s enough space to more than double its length by laying more baseboards around the other side of the loft. I’ll keep you updated.

      Thanks very much. I only got into this hobby in the last year myself, so my advice would be to do plenty of research into the best ways of doing things and take your time so you don’t have to go back and change too many things later on! Good luck with your layout.

    Hi again,
    Can I ask where did you get your cottage houses from? Are from Metcalfe or did you make them yourself. love to know. your setup for the cottage homes are great, my setup would almost in away will look like yours, as in the cottage houses part.
    I've got the same country station love that one ,that was my first building I started
    of with.
    Its amazing what you have done in your video clips your the only person that I have followed on you tube.
    many thanks Brian

      Hi Brian. Yes the cottages are a Metcalfe kit, I just weathered them a bit using some Humbrol weathering powders. The country station was my first kit as well! I’m going to attempt to scratch build a Yorkshire textile mill for the layout extension, so that will be an interesting challenge! Many thanks as always, M.R.

    Amazing as someone from Yorkshire this makes me feel like I am out in the Yorkshire dales having a nice walk and train spotting. It all looks so realistic it must have taken you hours and hours to create this its a credit to you . I also love your engine selection especially your City of Wells look alike Bullied (my favourite}. I get the feeling they could all be inspired by K.W.V.R Engines are they ? So glad I found your site I have subscribed instantly. Please post more videos the first ones have been a joy to watch Thank you.

      Teddy Wanderer Thanks for the comment, appreciate it! You’re spot on, the whole layout is very much inspired by the KWVR really. I’ll make sure to keep the videos coming. Cheers.
