I also think a lot of people might not get the hype of SK-II because they’re trying it through those tiny sample bottles that you get a few uses out of. Or they might not be using it generously or often enough because of how expensive it is. I think it needs to be used at least once a day for a couple of weeks before you notice anything. A lot of people expect immediate results because of how expensive it is or they don’t like the idea of using up most of their bottle before seeing a difference.
I literally used one of those small bottles and my skin never glowed like that and I never got so many compliments on my bare skin. I saved up and bought a big bottle.... omgg cant wait to drench!!!!

I have been using fermented essences since 2017 and have heard of SK II but haven't got the budget to buy it. I've used Swanicoco Bifida, Benton Fermentation, Neogen Real Ferment, All variations of Missha Time Revolution, Pyunkangyul Essence Toner and the list goes on. The've all been great but it seems that the Fermentation glow I had upon first using them was gone, maybe because my skin has reached its glowiest so to speak. Hi Alice! If you get a chance, I highly suggest you try out the new moisturizer from Stratia. It's called Interface, and it's a peptide based moisturizer. I think it contains five peptides if I'm not mistaken plus licorice, panthenol, and ha. I've been using it for the last month and I really do feel as if it's firming and hydrating.
It’s so good!! I am so glad they released it as 1. They needed a lightweight moisturizer (liquid gold is more of a serum imo) and 2. It’s such a wonderful formula? Stratia always comes through 🤩
No one talks about Pixie! It was popular. REN I thought was good. Ole Hendrickson is kinda still popular. I tried that dark spot toner. It's really strong, burns.
Pixi glow toniccccccc omg my first aha product!! Was game changing for my flaky skin in the winter- started the over exfoliation phase of 2018 LOL!! That brand was my go to for a hot minute around that time, before I went fully fragrance free. They had some hits like the caroline hirons product bar its packaging and the rose and glycolic cleansers were amazing! then when the ingredients and percentage focused trend came i think a lot of their products seemed unnecessary or unhelpful, and they rarely disclosed percentages except for the glycolic acid products! i did love that 10% serum though...
Haha yesss you remember! The Caroline Hirons products were amazing! I think you have a good point in them not disclosing percentages too. While brands don’t have to, I know that many people won’t use products that don’t disclose their active concentrations. It’s a shame, but they had a great run (and they do still have nice makeup in all fairness to the brand!)
Ok, I have a question, my skin tends to get easily dehydrated and my skin is feeling awfully sensitive. So I’m thinking my moisture barrier is compromised. What would be the top product(s) you would recommend? I was going to order the Dr C Kombucha Essence but I just want to do the best thing possible 😵💫
The best thing I’ve ever tried for repair is Stratia’s liquid gold! I do like the Dr. C as well (and a few other repairing products), but if I had to pick just one, it’s always Stratia. Uncontested!
@@AliceintheRabbitHole I’ve been terrified of the Stratia because it’s a mental hurdle (I’m combination, acne prone), but I will give it a try!!! Thank you so much for the response 🖤
Oh thank you, Ara is doing better although she’s needed a lot of rest, and I seem to be winning in the Immune System vs Cold match lol. Hope you have a great week too! 🥰
Beauty of Joseon definitely underrated. I used the old dynasty cream and it was good and for some reason; their fragrance didn’t bother me. I need to try their ss! Do you know if they have an all mineral one?
I know it’s not exactly a dupe for SK-II, but I’ve been using the Missha first treatment essence for 10+ years. I find it to be an essential step in hydrating and softening my skin before applying a thicker essence or hyaluronic acid serum. I’ve tried some alternatives like Neogen, but I always go back to Missha. However I am curious to try SK-II just to see what it does. Does it tend to ever go on sale? Also I totally know what you mean by getting things from CVS for -$3 😅. I just wish their website and app weren’t so horrendously slow and outdated! Every time I place an online CVS order I feel like I’ve run a marathon. And then half the time I get an email from CVS later saying that items are out of stock, which messes up my carefully planned out CVS coupon usage!
I’ve seen quite a few people say they like Missha’s more than SK-II! It really does come down to all the different variables in our skin/needs. So it might just be the perfect match for you? As for whether sk-II goes on sale: not really. There have been a few good deals on it, but I don’t think the company likes to advertise any sales 👀 I’ve had MUCH better luck with CVS more recently, though I can’t tell if that’s because I moved or if they improved. Only delay was recently, when a lipstick took 2 weeks to get to me. I almost lost hope on that one, then lo and behold, it showed up!
Would love to hear your thoughts on these - Numbuzin No.3 Super Glowing Essence Toner and Numbuzin No.3 Skin Softening Serum 🤩Many greetings from Denmark
Random question lol, but have you tried any beauty counter products? Specifically the foundation or tinted moisturizer? If so, could you lend your opinion please?
OMG I just started writing such a long answer and then realized I was thinking of a different company entirely 😆🤣 what’s the one that dupes the luxury brands, and you subscribe to it!? No I haven’t tried beautycounter. Bummer, I want to have a much more helpful reply than I do lol!!
@@AliceintheRabbitHole I know who you’re speaking of but can’t remember. I know Cassandra has covered them a lot. But no, this is its own thing. A friend is a rep for them and of course I want to support her. Their skincare doesn’t impress me. It’s ok for newbies but nothing would elevate my routine. So, I moved onto makeup and figured I’d ask since you know so much more about it than me. Thanks for your response tho lol.
So much to say. I love the good genes lactic have a back up but giving the ordinary a try Now have rewind to add to stratia collection I'm buying for 2 me and elissa. She is burning badly so I told her off the tret a 1 day but it could the ordinary lactic 10 percent. Could that be the problem ? Or cut lactic out. Idk I'm confused. She is so fair and sensitive yet dry as a bone.
My AHA intolerance correlates with a stronger retinoid - so I’d say maybe it could be? See if she can do AHAs in cleansers (that works for me, but no leave ons. It’s just too much altogether, I think)
Hey girlie .. I'm back ... I got the AB ultra soothing moisturizer (yeah the one that retails 290 effing dollars) Uhm Upon first application (first I was scared because the rich cream was an absolute disaster) But next I was literally Shocked It was actually making my redness go away as I rubbed it in It feels amazing on my skin ... I will keep u updated because I'm going to use it morning and night only Only other thing I used with it was the galatomyces essence from cos rx which so far is good on my skin too Anyways I needed to tell you that I already have a feeling I'm going to looooovvveeeeee it .... Lmfao 😂 it's kills me because of the price but I got it on beautylish where they break the price up into three payments which makes it a bit nicer so anyways talk more about it later GOOD NIGHT
OH NOOOO this is both incredible and terrifying for the sake of the ol’ wallet 🤣😆 That sounds like my experience with the previous formula though!! I was about to lose it over how good it was…until, you know, it wasn’t good at all 👀 Thanks so much for sharing!!
You know it’s so funny but ever since I jumped on your channel, I completely relate to you, and I too feel like people judge me inaccurately…..I get that so well…plz people don’t judge a book by its cover!”….you’re a beauty nerd just like I am with special skin care needs and the Fox News anchor analogy I think may just be the famous anchor for the repub party, you know the pretty one, cannot remember her full name…had to look it up, Ann Coulter!!! I look like a middle aged housewife and no one would ever guess that I was a rebellious punk rocker working in and around the music industry in the 80’s, wild child! 😂 love your channel and content!!!!🥰❣️
I’m waiting to graduate my skin to the point where I can justify buying products like sk-2 or even tatcha (which I tried some of her affordable smaller luxury items and omg, they were good, the lip mask namely)--maybe I’ll be ready for those products in a year or so!
I suspect it can be, but in the case of fungal acne, I really would suggest going to a derm. That’s a difficult albeit rare situation (as SO many ingredients, many that are innocuous otherwise, can impact it!)
Nope! Most skincare is formulated to absorb into the skin (think: Essence, serum, etc). Only occlusives remain on the surface (which is how they work: ie moisturizer) ☺️
I live in Australia. Many, many years ago ( last century, I'm 56) Cosmo magazine had a free sample size bottle of sk11 with the magazine Never read the magazine itself. but I bought so many of them because it was actually cheaper to purchase 10 magazines for $80 ,than the equivalent volume of sk11 I was in my 20's at the time. so once I'd used it up I never repurchased it due to the price. snd I really think that my skin didn't need it at that point. I have only recently reintroduced an essence into my skincare routine. again using sample sizes. but this time it's the Tatcha essence. which I love. I think it was the memory of how much I enjoyed sk11 which encouraged me to try essences again
Haha I like the way you think; I would totally do the same thing 🤣 That reminds me of how it’s less expensive to buy minis in some cases. Gotta always check the math before spending the coin!!
I'm new to your channel and I value your critiques. I have to say though I remember hearing about Beauty Of Joeson from G othamista around 2016. Of course it was hard to come by so I've never tried their products. Just today I was looking to replace my SPF and I thought I'd try Beauty Of Joeson. They're sold out on a couple of websites. Guess it wasn't meant to be lol.
For the LED mask, you don’t need a cream! I do like to use a simple antioxidant mist (isntree green tea toner/indie Lee coq-10, etc) before using it just because my skin dislikes being fully dry and I like to add in those antioxidants. But I’d say even that is optional. Just don’t use any actives prior to using the mask ☺️
One of the first “actives” I ever used was pixi glow tonic. I have such fond memories of that time. I tie a lot of my skincare discoveries to relationships and seasons/different years
I’ve gone through two bottles of that: one rose, one regular! I like it, but I didn’t repurchase. I like Neogen’s and IOPE’s toners more as dupes personally
Galactomyces and bifida are lysates and they can be written same in ingredient list, but the quality can be dramatically different. Good ones cost much - this what i heard from a cosmetic brand owner.
Yep, they’re two genuses - we get no information on the species, strains, or how the ferment is made. I think that explains the tremendous variation that is possible between two products that both feature those ingredients!
I pay more attention to smell/texture as the expiration date is an estimate. BUT I also declutter a lot. Planning another round for spring - I hate wasting products, so it’s best to move them along!
@@AliceintheRabbitHoleyeah! I came across your channel earlier this week and have been binging. I’ve been dealing with this hormonal acne for 6 or 7 years now and I’m still trying to find the right combo for this mess of a face. 😅 Thank you for the work you’re doing here!
I'm trying to get through my bottle of the pixi glow tonic. It's ok i guess, I just think my skin needs BHA way more than it does AHA and I didnt understand the difference when I bought it.
Sure enough I got the A BADER rich cream and it's made me red bumpy and splotchy lmfao ... I'm not giving up though I am returning it and going to try the ultra soothing one and if that doesn't work I'm giving up lmfao 😂
i think for me IOPE - Bio Essence Intensive Conditioning or the Su:m37 Secret Essence are great alternatives for SK-II even tho theyre still more expensive than other FTEs
My experience with Sk2 was... I didn't know what it was doing to my skin until I stopped for a few days/weeks and suddenly noticed my skin looked duller... But not sure if I would try it again (cuz of price). I still love good genes though and haven't found a better lactic acid replacement.
I hate that still to this day there isn’t a dupe for good genes. At least there are sales in place every now and again. Sk || I haven’t seen a sale yet.
I haven't tried the SK2 ( too expensive for me ) but I really like the COSRX 95 Galactomyces. I did try the Estee Lauder ANR and I didn't like it at all. I'm really picky about texture and it felt like water but left a slightly oily tacky residue. I also didn't like the way it smelled.
Thank you for adding that! I do notice the tackiness but I forget about it by the time I’ve added moisturizer. It is something to note for sure though. I think we all have some sort of texture we can’t handle (mine is stiffness: stiff masks are a struggle!)
@@AliceintheRabbitHole since you mentioned masks....Thats something I don't have in my routine. Do they really make a difference on your skin ? I think if I was to try one, it would be the I'm From Mugwort. My skin has been so red and irritated from the winter weather. Or maybe I should try the essence instead. Seems a lot of people really like that one.
I mostly prefer sheet masks (via toners and compressed sheet masks). Extra nice for delivering hydration, so I’ve done a TON this winter. What a cold winter it’s been!! Aside from that, I like the I Dew Care cake my day and Fresh instant mask for hydration. Both contain fragrance but are wash off formulas. The mugwort one was nice enough for me to finish, but I didn’t love how messy it was (lots of plant bits!)
I was at the dermatologist and he was like what is The Ordinary? I was like oh it’s the reason everyone has over exfoliated their skin and came to see you lol😂
I suspect SK2 has a considerable amount of naturally occuring actives in it, maybe kojic acid (or a derivative) and some nice humectants/amino acids. SK2 doesn't let anyone do research on pitera because of their patent, which is very suspicious to me.. Why wouldn't you let your supposedly amazing product be researched (for free!) if it's as good and magical as you claim.
Or they Might Not be Able to afford $185 skin care products! Back when, when I was a working RN, married to an MD, yeah,, I might've tried it. But now that Im divorced and an 'Early Retired RN', due to 3 back surgeries, on SSDI, Not a Chance! I'd have to not pay rent or eat (oh, by the way I Still pay $400/mo for a room in a 2 BR Apt!!) Guess I'll stick with drug store (which is Also getting High Priced for the Poor!)
It’s true. I really dislike that some products are simply inaccessible for some (and I dislike even more that housing often applies in this same context) But I’ll always stress something here: consistency is the MOST important factor. If $185 products are not an option, you can still make a fantastic routine on a more affordable budget. Some of my fav affordable brands are: Beauty of Joseon, Isntree, and Good Molecules - just as a start! ☺️

Yes! I use PHA too! And BOJ sunscreen! The sunscreen is awesome and doesn’t make my makeup pill
It really is such a phenomenal sunscreen. If you told me sunscreen would reach this level back in…eh something like 2005…I would never believe it 🤯

Stratia always comes through 🤩
I have seen SK 2 for a long time and wondered if it’s worth it.
I have 0 glow on my skin. Hyperpigmentation.
Good video
You look so elegant in this makeup and hair look, Alice! ❤
Thank you! 😃
Alice I've decided to incorporate more ginseng in my skincare routine because I'm old. I just got the BOJ Ginseng essence. Hope it's a hit for me.
Let me know how it goes for you!!
Awes9me video. ❤️❤️❤️your passion for skin care! I have learned so much from u! Hugs from Tampa

No one talks about Pixie! It was popular. REN I thought was good. Ole Hendrickson is kinda still popular. I tried that dark spot toner. It's really strong, burns.
The ole henriksen dark spot toner? That was another one I didn’t like on my face (but finished on my feet haha!) VERY strong for sure!
@@AliceintheRabbitHole maybe I will put that dark spot toner on my feet too! Gotta use it up!
Definitely try it!!
Three fave sunscreens right now
Hydra cica from skin 1004
Good molecules zinc
And BOJ
!! The good molecules is up there with BoJ and skin1004!? 😳 welp, I gotta try it now 😆

I need to get into PHA. I am using a low % of Glycolic Acid now around ~4%

Pixie absolutely hates my skin. Great video. Have a wonderful week. How are you both feeling? I hope all is well.❌️⭕️

You look stunning. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! 😃
Beauty of Joseon definitely underrated. I used the old dynasty cream and it was good and for some reason; their fragrance didn’t bother me. I need to try their ss! Do you know if they have an all mineral one?
They don’t right now, but there are K-beauty brands that have mineral sunscreens! Personally, I like Pestlo’s ☺️
@@AliceintheRabbitHole I will have to check pestlo. I’m forever looking for good physical ones
There have been a few good deals on it, but I don’t think the company likes to advertise any sales 👀
I’ve had MUCH better luck with CVS more recently, though I can’t tell if that’s because I moved or if they improved.
Will be reporting on that in the near future 😃
I love the good genes lactic have a back up but giving the ordinary a try
Now have rewind to add to stratia collection
I'm buying for 2 me and elissa.
Have you tried the numbuzin no.3 skin softening serum, apparently its very close to the estè laurder.
Will be reviewing that whole brand soon! I’m SO excited as I hear very good things 🤩
Hey girlie .. I'm back ... I got the AB ultra soothing moisturizer (yeah the one that retails 290 effing dollars)
Uhm
Upon first application (first I was scared because the rich cream was an absolute disaster)
But next
I was literally
Shocked
It was actually making my redness go away as I rubbed it in
It feels amazing on my skin ...
I will keep u updated because I'm going to use it morning and night only
Only other thing I used with it was the galatomyces essence from cos rx which so far is good on my skin too
Anyways
I needed to tell you that
I already have a feeling I'm going to looooovvveeeeee it .... Lmfao 😂 it's kills me because of the price but I got it on beautylish where they break the price up into three payments which makes it a bit nicer so anyways talk more about it later GOOD NIGHT
OH NOOOO this is both incredible and terrifying for the sake of the ol’ wallet 🤣😆
That sounds like my experience with the previous formula though!! I was about to lose it over how good it was…until, you know, it wasn’t good at all 👀
Thanks so much for sharing!!
The 11oz $345 SKII essence is $211 at Costco
You know it’s so funny but ever since I jumped on your channel, I completely relate to you, and I too feel like people judge me inaccurately…..I get that so well…plz people don’t judge a book by its cover!”….you’re a beauty nerd just like I am with special skin care needs and the Fox News anchor analogy I think may just be the famous anchor for the repub party, you know the pretty one, cannot remember her full name…had to look it up, Ann Coulter!!! You are the farthest thing! But sooooo glad you’re a super investigative reporter babe for skin care….evvvvvery episode plumbs the depths and I lovvvvvve it! I’m waiting to graduate my skin to the point where I can justify buying products like sk-2 or even tatcha (which I tried some of her affordable smaller luxury items and omg, they were good, the lip mask namely)--maybe I’ll be ready for those products in a year or so!
Another nice dupe for Estee Lauder is Numbuzin no.3 serum which has bifida and galactomyces. Is so good!
I can’t wait to try that one!!
The ingredients in SKII aren't good for those with acne, I've heard. Fungal acne in particular. Is this true?
I suspect it can be, but in the case of fungal acne, I really would suggest going to a derm. That’s a difficult albeit rare situation (as SO many ingredients, many that are innocuous otherwise, can impact it!)
Does washing your face in the morning ruin your results from using all your products at night?
Nope! Most skincare is formulated to absorb into the skin (think: Essence, serum, etc). Only occlusives remain on the surface (which is how they work: ie moisturizer) ☺️
You look great in fuchsia.
Thank you!
I live in Australia. Many, many years ago ( last century, I'm 56) Cosmo magazine had a free sample size bottle of sk11 with the magazine
Never read the magazine itself. but I bought so many of them because it was actually cheaper to purchase 10 magazines for $80 ,than the equivalent volume of sk11
I was in my 20's at the time. so once I'd used it up I never repurchased it due to the price. snd I really think that my skin didn't need it at that point.
Thanks for the idea of using the ordinary glycolic toner on feet! It doesn’t work for my face and I was ready to declutter. Now I can repurpose…
It works soooo well. I used to buy the baby foot type of peels, which I no longer need to do. No peeling, but still softness. It’s great! 🤩
Yes!! She was the only one I saw review the brand way back. She’s a treasure to the skincare community 🤩
Have you tried soko glam or oh lolly? It really is a nice brand.
@@debradowling800 Thanx, I will in the future. In the meantime I went ahead and bought, Pure Block Tone-Up Sun Base from A'pieu.
Hi! I just preordered the Qure LED mask. What cream do you recommend to use with it? Their cream is sold out
For the LED mask, you don’t need a cream!

I tie a lot of my skincare discoveries to relationships and seasons/different years
That was indeed a good time!
I used the Isntree Bifida ampoule a few tears back and it was great but then they added fragrance to it
Have you looked at Secret Key as a replacement for SK II?
I’ve gone through two bottles of that: one rose, one regular! I like it, but I didn’t repurchase. I like Neogen’s and IOPE’s toners more as dupes personally
I am dying to get my hands on the axis y new collection. I wish they were on sale because I knowwww this will be a holy grail for me 😭😭😭😭😭
I hope stylevana gets them soon!!
Beauty of Joseon sunscreen is my favorite! So why do I have five tubes of Round Lab? 🙃
Because it’s winter!! Even I’m using up all my thick sunscreens now. BOJ will be for spring, waterfit for summer (I’ve got a whole plan 😆😆)
Your skin is glowing in this video!
With all the products you try, how do you keep track of expiration dates?
I pay more attention to smell/texture as the expiration date is an estimate. BUT I also declutter a lot. Planning another round for spring - I hate wasting products, so it’s best to move them along!
Would you consider doing an Asian skincare routine for those of us with this godawful hormonal acne? 🤞

Right it really was. It was such an innovative release, especially at the time!
I'm trying to get through my bottle of the pixi glow tonic. It's ok i guess, I just think my skin needs BHA way more than it does AHA and I didnt understand the difference when I bought it.
I very much understand that, team BHA all the way here (well, BHA and PHA!)
Sure enough I got the A BADER rich cream and it's made me red bumpy and splotchy lmfao ... I'm not giving up though I am returning it and going to try the ultra soothing one and if that doesn't work I'm giving up lmfao 😂
Oh no!! 😭😭 So sorry to hear! Can you let me know if that one does work out? I was too scared to try anything else from them 😅
@@AliceintheRabbitHole trust me I will be right back here letting you know about it as soon as I try it girlie !!

The IOPE is probably my second pick for a fermented fte, very much a runner up!
The IOPE is probably my second pick for a fermented fte, very much a runner up!
I like sk2 and I always get samples of good genes but haven’t seen any difference. How often do you use it?
Did you know that L'oreal Revitalift has a vit C E serum with SA? I wonder how it compares to their Skinceutical formulas.
Yes!! I bought it recently (at cvs, of course haha). Will follow up!
i an using cosrx galactomyces only because i cant afford SK2 😅😅
I think the under-rated issue of Axis-Y and Isntree is due to their packaging.
I was at the dermatologist and he was like what is The Ordinary? I was like oh it’s the reason everyone has over exfoliated their skin and came to see you lol😂
BAHAHA omg, sadly it’s so true!! 🥲
Omg I remember 12 years ago renting a room for $350 a month it was great. That room would be like 1200$ now lol
RIGHT. And I swear salaries haven’t tripled in the last decade 🤔🤔
Beauty of Joseon made my lips sooo chapped that I can’t use it at all. I wish I knew which ingredient/s cause this so I could avoid it.
The sunscreen? Oh wow. Yeah I’m perplexed as well! 🤯
$$$$
I have a love/hate relationship with patented ingredients for this very reason. They DO tend to be amazing. But they’re expensive 😭
It’s true. I really dislike that some products are simply inaccessible for some (and I dislike even more that housing often applies in this same context)
But I’ll always stress something here: consistency is the MOST important factor. If $185 products are not an option, you can still make a fantastic routine on a more affordable budget.
Some of my fav affordable brands are: Beauty of Joseon, Isntree, and Good Molecules - just as a start! ☺️
