In the one timeline where his musical actually gets produced in any form, it's Hidgens himself that destroys it, and that is the perfect capstone to this joke that's been running for over 5 years now.
@@Undeniably_Idiotic You know what? I bet some time years after Hidgens is dead a Broadway producer rediscovers the script for Workin' Girls and the critics describe it as, like, "A brilliant satire of patriarchy, highlighting the absurdity of how men perceive both the opposite sex and their own, and simultaneously a biting rejection of the 'Girlboss' who steps into a leadership role but enforces the exact same hierarchies a man would in the same position." I hope Hidgens is awarded a posthumous Tony Award, specifically by a panel of judges that consider the inverted gender dynamics to be the heart of the whole show.
They actually want to make a Hatchetfield movie, the current idea is that it's set around the Hatchetfield Community Players (Zoey and co), and a murder mystery at a cast party!!
you know i'm glad working boys got delayed for like 3 years because we got Jeff as Hidgens because of it. also shoutout to starkid for actually putting in effort to make the character look different than the actor, Hidgens actually looks old here
When Jeff Blim is given a target, he never misses, also the costume design in this was incredible considering they reuse already developed Hatchetfield characters in the audience

My first take on the Chad situation was that Higgins loved Chad the most. The boys use him as a cudgel to get their surviving friend to do "the right thing for the show"
yeah I was a bit confused by Chad being interpreted as a looming threat in this video, it rly just seemed like another tune in the siren's call already taking place with the boys being there. Pokey knows how to work up a crowd, after all.
Just so you know, Robert Manion sexually harassed a member of the band during Black Friday, then went on to burn his bridges with Team Starkid by insulting them and saying very racist and transphobic things on social media.
as someone who saw the whole situation unfold in real time, i think starkid handled it pretty well. they just immediately fired the guy, ignored his comments and they just dont mention him anymore. pretty sure all the actors cut ties with him too.
The very early scrapped version of the workin boys script was insane. Matt talked about this during Cinderella's Castle final live stream and it was originally about Emma and Becky, Emma being a stage director and doing a Workin' Boys show, Becky was cast as Henry, and the producer of this show was Wilbur Cross. So the whole point of Workin' Boys was actually Wilbur's plan to summon Lords in Black and the show itself was a ritual. And Wilbur gives his version of the script to Hidgens and Hidgens has to use that script for his show, which included Becky getting stabbed by the Black Blade. And apparently, Stanely (Becky's awful husband) was in it too, and they were going to show what the inside of Black and White looks like. So Stanely was trying to stop Becky from being in Workin' Girls because he is just that awful, very controlling, while Becky secretly did Workin' Girls behind him, but eventually he finds out, and he tries to kill Becky. But then Wilbur shows up because his plan was to sacrifice Becky so he and Stanley get in a fight And this is where interesting Wilbur's new ability is introduced where he..pushes Stanley's consciousness out of this reality and put that consciousness to other reality where Stanley is already dead. So Stanley is stuck in his dead body while his conscious was still there, feeling all the worms eating his rotten body. And this is how it ends.
That version seems absolutely wild! Glad they went for the more Hidgens centric story though, it does tie in with the Witch in the Web Nightmare Time story though, would've been a lot to keep up with in such a short amount of time
also one really cool scene that matt talked about was near the end, wilbur cross reaches into stanley’s guts, pulls out a bunch of maggots and says “you’re a daddy, stanley!! you’re the father of flies!!”, just felt like adding!!!
Best part is they take characters from all the shows and put them in this one, making it feel like they're all members of the same town seeing a local production.
On one hand if you aren't familiar with the characters then the references would be lost on people, then on the other hand introducing all the characters in one place generates intrigue about who they all are!
@@Undeniably_Idiotic And it stays true to Starkid tradition of having multiple different characters played by the same actors, thus making it feel more like a genuine production
I saw this on tumblr or reddit, but I think that it Hidgens should never played by the same actor twice in any future hatchetfield media, just for funsies next would be Corey Dorris Hidgens (he literally sang SSN today at Starkid Innit), then Joey Hidgens, then Jon Hidgens, then maybe Mariah Hidgens (!!) IDK it just sounds like a lot of fun no reference or wink in universe about how he always looks different, everything proceeding as normal
I’ve seen a bunch of people saying this and I agree! Hidgens is such an interesting role that actors can interpret differently, even just for one performance of a song. The people I’ve seen mentioned that would excite me the most are James Tolbert and Jae Hughes
Great video! Nick Lang spoke about why Chad wasn't in this in one of the Cinderella's Castle livestream, it's not because he's dangerous (thought that could be interesting) but because Hidgens's feelings for him weren't platonic like for the rest of the boys, so his opinion holds a lot more value than the others, and he couldn't let Chad see him sell out!
I would definitely recommend looking at the watch party they did in the second part of the final Cinderella livestream! Lots of fun behind the scenes insights from the cast and Nick especially on how the concept developed over the years
Nick said that if they ever did nmt3 they’d make it in more of a short film sort of thing so they could use special effects and stuff which would be really cool!
The ghosts, and the deaths of the actresses and Hidgens are 100% Pokey's doing: He has a theatre theme, there was BLUE lighting around the ghosts, and canonically in the Hatchetfield universe the lords in Black have been summoned at one point so he'd have the power to do so. And, come on, He's Pokey, of course he'd do something like this. The Lords In Black just love to mess with people! Does anyone agree? :DDD
Workin Boys is so much fun and so worth the wait! I’m somehow even more obsessed than I thought I would be. Jeff is fantastic, this is some of my favorite acting he’s ever done. The women also blew me away, the album is especially worth buying for them. Mariah as Hidgens was so satisfying. “The imminent and unseen threat of Chad” is so funny, I still doubt he’ll ever show up but you never know!
What I really liked was how they only put the horror at the end of the story just so we could see more of how Hidgens became the homicidal maniac at the end, it’s great. Most horror films don’t really do that, like, before the opening credits happen, there’s *MURDER!* I watched this show called “Murder Most Horrid” on Prime and in most episodes, they had the murder near the end of the episode, so we could see more of character development why the murderer (usually played by Dawn French) decided to murder someone. Great show, highly recommend!
Regarding the program easter eggs; wtf does Cassandra King's bio mean for the future of the series?!? "Cassandra King (Eve) is elated to be present with you fellow vessels in these fleeting moments. Everything has transpired exactly as the lights in the sky foretold. Cassie had never been a believer in prophecy or the ethereal spaces between... but she's seen too much to deny their truth now. She no longer fears the visions, or the pain that comes with their descent. Pain is the price of knowledge. Pain is the language that unites the children of Az'zoksh, no matter which star they may hail from. Cassie wants to see what lies at the end of the cold hall. She's ready to see the face of the girl screaming in the dark. How did she find herself aboard? And what is the destination of such a magnificent ship? Is tonight the night Cassie departs? The lights give no answer. And so she waits for deliverance. Cassie would also like to thank her boyfriend, Chris."
