The IBIS wobble was so bad before, so it’s nice to see how much more improved it is now. Not sure if the R7 received the firmware fix as well in the latest update (based off your footage it’s already looking good). The update really saved this lens and it’s been my go to as of late! Also considering the wide L glass equivalent is over 6x as much, makes this a really good bargain lens and an easy must.
Got this lens while waiting for my R7 to arrive. Must say, it's a great pair with the R7 IBIS so you don't miss the lack of stabilization on the lense. I also love using it on my full frame R to get those super wide shots
Nice! Glad you did this video. I am about to pick up an R8 tomorrow... just for shits and giggles... local dealer got a couple in early. I think the 16mm f2.8 would be good to pair with it.
I use a 43->52mm step up ring for the 16mm f2.8, it vignettes after adding a second filter. Eg. 1 x black promist, 1 x variable ND -> visible vignette. Choosing a larger filter size to step up to could prevent this
Will this work for filming on my counter in my kitchen with the R7? Or what would you suggest, I listened to my mil and she didn’t know about the 1.6 crop factor. I do cooking videos for TH-cam.
I like this lens because it's so cheap and so wide. I've been in countless situations where a group of 15 people want to take a group shot but they only have room to stand back like 4 feet and this lens was great for that. But the image quality isn't the best. And if the subject is like 10 feet the eye af tracking is spotty (I guess it's because the eye is so small at 16mm). I can't wait for a 24 mm prime.
Just did a update on my EOS R and this lens doesn't play nice with the camera, it says it doesn't recognise it and the screen doesn't work properly. It works but the functionality is reduced and laggy on the screen. Works fine on me R3 and all other lens i have work fine on the EOS R.
@@Josh_Sattin I just realised I installed 1.2 not 1.8. But in the list of updates it doesn’t mention the 16mm. Fingers crossed it will work when I update to 1.8 firmware.
Yeah, I agree, it worked very well. An F2.8 lens is F2.8 on any size sensor. I made a video all above crop factors and sensor sizes if you want to check it out: th-cam.com/video/Qcdtq3N6yQI/w-d-xo.html
Hey there my friend 👋🏻, Quick question… do i need to enable the “HDR PQ” mode on my R7 to achieve the 4k “Fine” 7k down sample… or can i just put it on 4k fine and leave that hdr pq disabled?
I haven't used that lens in a few years, but I'd guess that image quality is probably fairly similar, but the RF 16 is full frame and has a larger maximum aperture.
How does this lens lineup compare to the RF 24-105 F/4L in terms of image quality? Also if you've tried other lenses of this lineup, what do you think of their macro capabilities?
The RF 16 is nowhere near the quality of the RF 24-105. That is an L series lens. I did a video about the RF 35mm which you can see here: th-cam.com/video/J9IgBJ-E-pA/w-d-xo.html
@@Josh_Sattin I'm looking for a wide lens to help me with my camera's crop; is there anything cheap that would be on par with the 24-105 F/4L? The Sigma 18-35 looks interesting but it's not as wide and AF isn't as good and is noisy. Now this aside, I've been looking for something macro as well; I'm currently using some macro filters on my 24-105 and they introduce (or magnify) the lens' aberrations but since a lens like the 35mm is a macro lens and should have low aberrations, isn't it kind of on par with the 24-105? Is it like softer but with less aberration? (also watched your 35mm video as well; helpful video!).
I don't think this lens was designed for people with R7 money and above. At best, this is a beginner's lens for the M50 bloggers and those who might need a cheap emergency lens. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for the update. I have to admit I'm slightly bummed you're not doing R5C stuff as I was learning along with my personal R5C. But, hey I'm still learning and thanks for the content!
Solid pass on this lens, wow... that is not a good look 🤣 Looked better on the R7, but IBIS wobble is still distracting me, and I don't like it on the R5 with the corner distortions. Suppose that might be easy enough to fix in an NLE but, think i'll just stick to EF for now
Can't wait for you to review the 24mm 1.8 next!
Thanks dude! I was just looking for tests from this lens for the EOS R 7
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!

if you turn off the ibis on the r7, do you still got the wobble effect on a wide lens?
Nice test! I just bought this lens, great for shooting indoor sit close with kids, and filming kids out about..
Thanks! Yeah this is a great lens for that. Super small and light too!

The horizon leveling feature on the R7 is working overtime in the ibis test
That feature was disabled on the R7. I think I’m just a bad vlogger.

R7 IBIS wobbly. If we focus on background feels dizzy

Can you turn off IBIS and see the effect.

What can you say about ibis wobble in Canon r7?
You can make your own judgment by watching this video starting at 4:45.
Hi Josh, great review I think this lens for vlogging would be good. Thank you. 👍🏻☀️🌊🌴🌋🏝📸☕

Oh wow. I'm sorry to hear that. It's a bummer if Canon isn't properly supporting their older camera anymore.

this lens work ok on R5C in super 35 sensor mode ? tx
I haven’t personally tried that combination but it should work.
thanks thats amazing!
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
In clog3 it does correcting of vignetting too?
I shot all of this in Clog3 and didn't correction for vignetting in post.
I'm surprised that there's less wobble on the r7 than the r5 here. Was that just a result of the crop?
I'm not sure. It's either because of the crop or the R7 is a newer camera and maybe the IBIS has been improved.
Wow the IBIS and standard stabalisation on the R7 looked great.
Is the F2.8 x 1.6 = F4.48 on the 16mm, or does it still render out at F2.8.

You do not need to be in HDR PQ to use 4K Fine.
