    Nice video. I have a seasonal camper with almost the same hook up. My problem was that I had to get on my knees, slowly pull out the dump handle and listen to the water draining. What I'm going to do is lengthen the pipe from the dump handle forward, add a see-through section, then another handle outside the trailer. Now I know when my tank is clean and I don't have to get on my knees to grap the dump handle. :)

  • @rustynail6819
    @rustynail6819 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Biggest issue is the tanks. With the tanks on a constant open a black tank won't train properly. With a tank you need that tank to fill up so when you open it it's a big flush that will take most of the stuff down the hose. There's no way when you flush the toilet that whatever is in there is going out the hard line. Most of it will just stay in the tank including toilet paper. What you end up with is a clogged tank. Gray tank is different since it's just water and that will flow out with no problems but you don't want to keep the gray and black open at the same time!

      If the camper just has a direct sewer line out with no holding tank, it should just flow out like a normal plumbing system.

      Thanks again for sharing your knowledge, it is very much appreciated! We bought a used/but new to us 2000 Layton 3710 park model travel trailer in excellent condition. The previous owner had someone remove all the tanks, and connect pvc from sinks/shower/toilet directly into septic. We were able to reconnect pvc to septic where were parked, thanks to your video. :) We are new to f/t Rving but love it so far. It's very hard to find useful/helpful information about setting up plumbing/drainage for Rvs with no tanks. Our toilet is emptying directly through pvc into septic with no problems, but sinks/shower do not drain at all. There may be some kind of drain valve that is closed or shut off. Any ideas on where to look- what to look for- or what would prevent drains from draining? Nothing is clogged, sinks/shower were used last August 2017, and according to the previous owner the drains emptied properly at that time with no problems. Any advice or ideas you may have are extremely appreciated! Thanks again! :)

    So, out of curiosity did you have any trouble unscrewing the adapter to remove the pipe? Seems like a compression coupling would be required.

    • @HomeOwnerRepair
      @HomeOwnerRepair  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, But I only remove the pipe if I am moving the camper. In that case I typically cut the white PVC pipe I added NOT THE CAMPER PIPE and I am able to twist the coupling adapter off that way. Hope this helps you out.

    Hi there, great video. quick question. I have installed permanent connection to my RV to my sewer line beside the house that leads to the city line. I have installed sewer pump to pump it better, my question is, should keep the black and gray valve ON all the time, if not why not? thanks

    • @HomeOwnerRepair
      @HomeOwnerRepair  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In an RV you want to close the valve let the waste and grey water build up a little then open the valve to release it. This is more important on the sewer side of things because if you leave it open you run the risk of having the solids pile up because there is not enough water to carry it out. Hope this explanation helps you out.

    have a trailer staying in one place. My gray water is dumped in a dry well that seeps into the ground. My black water goes to a tank that needs pumped out when full. How do you hook up both lines to the one outlet on the trailer ??

I usually cut the PVC in a spot that is easy to reconnect to once I am set up somewhere else. This is more of a seasonal set-up not for a weekend camping.

  • @DevilTravels
    @DevilTravels 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    ABS should be used instead of PVC in cold climates. ABS doesn't shatter like PVC. That's why it's used in RVs. (notice RV pipe is black, not white)

    • @HomeOwnerRepair
      @HomeOwnerRepair  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So, We are very close to the Canadian border. The temperatures dips down to -20 in the winter, these pipes have been buried under 5' of snow and have been fine.

    • @DevilTravels
      @DevilTravels 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HomeOwnerRepair I'm glad the PVC has been performing well so far. Being buried below the frost line certainly helps.
      But from what I understand, something that is working good so far, doesn't mean it will continue to do so. From what I understand, ABS specifications suggest (temperature range and expansion capability) that material will continue working well for far longer without the sudden failure the PVC may experience in colder climates.
