I just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU on behalf of all the composers out there. People like you who go on youtube to make videos about the exact workings of extended techniques on their instrument are so incredibly helpful. (Especially if you include the more obscure instruments, like you do with the alto flute.) Reading about extended techniques in a textbook is one thing, but there really is no substitute for getting to actually hear them demonstrated and explained from a player perspective.
I can't count the number of times I've gone on youtube in the hopes that someone has uploaded a video answering an incredibly specific question I have. (In this case, it was "Do tongue rams work well on the alto flute, and how do you notate them?") I would never have even known that they have a specific pitch, and that the sounding pitch is a major seventh below the written pitch, if I hadn't come across this video.
I especially appreciate that you talk about what the proper notation conventions are, as there can be a lot of ambiguity and a lack of standardization for extended techniques.
Thank you thank you thank you!
