      Dude, you did a comparison of the zen delay with out using any "drive". It has a tube driven overdrive... in fact right in the middle of the unit it has a huge tube sticking out of it... 1/3 of the zen is the overdrive... If you dont want overdrive why would you get a Zen?

    Thanks Ricky. Very cool, I love the Blooper. I am 68 years old been playing musical instruments as long as I can remember. Blooper is the best most innovative pedal I have ever used in all of my years, and it pairs well with Mood both from Chase Bliss.

      @@RickyTinez Thank you for your interest in hearing my music. I like your philosophy on share the love and share the knowledge. I play to meditate and relax mostly. I never thought to publish any of my music. My Wife always tells me to get out there but the music I play is very experimental. I just don't think people would like it. I use very dissonant extended chords like B13b9, E7#9+, F#7#9b5 etc. played in a progression. I also use scales like Melodic and Harmonic minor and Whole tone, Diminished, etc. and all their Modes. I sample the progression or single note lines into the MPC, Morphagene, Blooper, then proceed to scramble it up. Sometimes I just let it flow naturally other times I make a beat. Right now I am working with the Make Noise system and recording in the same manor. Not the conventional sense because the DPO is great for frequency modulation, wave folding and all that. Anyway that's what I do. Thanks for asking and for your videos. I could send you something if you like. Like I said it's weird. Take care.

    Your original review of the Zen Delay is what helped me pull the trigger on mine - and now it's an essential component of my live performance setup. So I'm biased.
    I like the tricks and sound effects you're doing with the Blooper, but to my ears the Zen provides a much more well-rounded and flexible classic delay sound, with more sweet spots. And that's the thing for me - the Zen is approximately 80% sweet spot. Everything I send through it just sounds awesome. And the playability is extraordinary with the pedal and knobs being 3x the size of most other units.
    If you're debating between these two units, my advice is to think about the reason the Zen Delay *doesn't even have a foot switch*. It's because the Zen was engineered from the ground up to be a tabletop instrument that you play with your fingers. That playability is exactly why I chose it and I'm glad I did.
    But we're spoiled for choice on Delay units in 2022. Can't go wrong, so just think about what you want to use it for in your music and trust your own ears & judgement ;)

    • @J1M0TEE
      @J1M0TEE 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree dude. The Zen Delay is built to be played with. I only noticed the fact that it doesn't have foot switches / stompswitches when someone mentioned it, but that really goes to show their aim with it.
      The instability on the blooper is super nice. It does seem harder to tweak and mess with during a song though, like it's more suited to a set and forget style of use, whereas the Zen is way more hands-on, so you become the LFO yourself.
      I also fell in love with this 'FX unit' :) from Ricky's video on it. Man, he made it sing, scream and shout! :D I found out about the thing in the first place from this amazing jam, and in the overlays he says "The Zen Delay is by far the most performance-oriented effects pedal I own". I think he totally nailed it. th-cam.com/video/wdRhwK65tIo/w-d-xo.html

    If you're looking for a cheap alternative of the blooper. Try to mess with Ableton Echo at 100% of feedback & dry/wet + sync. Juste change the speed or any other parameter to get crazy lo-fi loop.

    This is a great video (as all Ricky's videos are), but when he dropped this, I had JUST bought the Zen Delay like... 2 weeks before - and Ricky's video on how much he loved the Zen Delay was probably the main thing that tipped me toward it, vs. the Empress Echosystem or Polymoon or Timeline. When I saw how much Ricky liked the Zen, I thought "OK... that's it. I'm getting the Zen." Two weeks later this video showed up. :::facepalm::: Oh well - that's the nature of gear. Also, I do love the Zen, and it just has this performability that surpasses, IMO, ANY pedal ever made. I don't regret it. Plus... it's absurdly beautiful and impressive looking. It just feels like a treasured piece of gear when you get your hands on it.

    5:10 love doing this on my yamaha magicstomp. You just need to set 2 different patches to pitch delay, but turn pitch part off on one, if you switch between them, the "trail" transfers and the pitch effect starts to function after the next repeat, it also sometimes has some interesting glitchy artifacts when you switch patches

    I think it's wonderful to see you teeter right at that Neo moment where delays and loopers merge into the same thing. For me the real fun starts when you go between the two use modes, you can build up a loop, and then turn that into a dubby delay that "cooks" over time like you described, and then falls back into a loop, where you can replace/insert etc. God I love loopers.

    Picked up a Zen recently and was honestly shocked that it didn't offer "dotted" delay times, however I used my e-rm Multiclock to trick it: Set a Master Tempo on the e-rm as 180, set a channel divider for Channel 1 for /2 and then drove the Zen from Channel 2 with /3. Instant dotted time values. It's a shame it requires some tricks, but makes up for because it sounds so good.

    I am looking at either one of these or the RMX 1000 or the keinedelay for my dj setup. What would you recommend?
    Is RMX 1000 still holding up?
