Yes , so happy you've made this video. The 288 GTO is one of the most beautiful Ferraris ever made and the first Ferraril supercar. Wonderful video , thanks very much for sharing . Enjoyed this immensely 👍

You have such a dream collection of Ferrari. Driving and filming them and is the only way for the 99% of us to ever come close to your experience with them. Thank you so much for your time and energy to do this for those that will never own these amazing cars. You are awesome!!

Me too. I've only seen one ever, and it seemed tiny! Franschhoek Motor Museum in South Africa and the other big 4 in red also.

Yeah, they made less than 500 a year to meet Homologation B requirements? Pretty sure at 14 years old…I knew it would be a classic! Absolutely astounding in value and beauty.

My favorite car was a 308 GTS and I thought that was as perfect as can be and as beautiful as possible. Then the 288 GTO came out and I saw that in magazines. If you thought that the 308 was a beauty, of course you would be stunned by the 288 GTO. You don't get a car that beautiful (and a lot of people would say it's the most beautiful car) without trying--and they definitely achieved that goal! Most people aren't going to race around rally events. These cars sit as museum pieces, and if seen in public, they are meant to dazzle and stun. Mission accomplished! Other supercars are great, but didn't achieve what the 288 achieved. A very capable supercar, and a stunner to the point where people regard it as the most beautiful car (of all the many many cars ever made). That makes it a big deal!

The 288 Gto is still my most favorite Ferrari ever. Then it's the Competizione followed by the SF90 and then the F8 Tributo. Ferrari really made some awesome cars but with the 288 you're in charge and there is no ECU etc and digital screens. It's old school perfection

  • @MarcSob22

Dream machine!! It just needs an exhaust, a friend from Monaco installed a direct exhaust on his 288 GTO and it's perfect!! Best of all, it uses without the slightest pity, as if it were an ordinary car. Good content , great collection!

Thanks again for sharing David. This is my absolute favourite Ferrari of all time. I'm literally taking a break from working on my 308 timing belts to watch this in my shop. A guy can dream. Love those orange guages too.

Thanks for sharing this David - it's the closest I'll ever get to driving one I'm sure. It has been my dream car since it first was launched - I remember seeing it in a Road & Track magazine article where it was launched at a car show and there was also the Porshe 959 - too polar extremes of how to deliver a super car in the 80's! I once lived in Germany and as a kid used to visit Autohaus Becker which was a very large car dealership and had a huge Ferrari section, including a Ferrari service centre. I remember arriving as a kid and as I crossed the road, I heard this amazing engine sound - I looked around and all I could see was an old VW Beetle - I thought, wow, what have they done to that Beetle to make it sound like that! Then the Beetle continued past me and behind it, so low, I couldn't previously see it, was a brand new 288 GTO and it was that that was making the noise! I followed it in to the garage entrance and the owner got out and was angrily complaining to the mechanic about what looked like a small paint chip or something on the mirror. I'll never forget that moment - and the guy was a middle aged guy with a pony tail, denim jeans shorts and sandals - not the sort of person I imagined getting out of that amazing car when I was a young boy. Even to this day, I can't think of a car that has a more elegant and functional styling - everything on that car is there for a reason and is beautifully crafted. The F40 is amazing too, but for me, it's like a tool whereas the GTO is a piece of art.

Thanks for the ride along. People comment today about how F1 cars are so automated and the drivers couldn't drive yesterday's manual/analog F1 cars. I say todays F1 cars are so fast with tons of down force and engine hp that they would not have time to clutch and shift. When I see an older hi performance car like a Camaro with an automatic I wonder why? So I agree with you about being more involved with driving the car enhances the experience.

Thank you David for another great video. I like the angle from which the camera takes you at around 6' 24". You seem to be lying down in the seat. Is the position of the seat really that way, like in formula 1 cars, or is it just distortion of the image?
What I am missing in this video is the sound of the engine from outside. Maybe in some parts when you drive it would be nice to have a camera on the street and insert in your video images and sound of the car from outside.
I would be interested in seeing comparison of the big fives, especially with their impact on your five senses and the senses of your collaborators.

From the first few minutes I knew this wasn't the GTO video I was looking for. A garage queen(?) driven ever so tentatively by some rich guy who can't really *drive* this sort of thing rite? Good luck with the GTO, it's the pick of litter at Ferrari, but get that clutch fixed/light it up and de-clutch on the way back down. It'll reward you like no other car!
