I was thinking Houston would sign Anthony Santander because he would fire up this offense in the lineup and this would be good for veteran presence in the organization to assist with the young outfielders if y’all understand what I am saying.
Go watch a highlight reel of Santander’s defense in 2024. He made some great plays last year. He had only 2 errors and like a .993 fielding percentage. I saw him throw out a couple of guys too. Better than average arm. And he was tied for first or second in the league for assists in 2024.
If they’re losing more important picks and international money if they sign Santander, the only thing that makes sense then is trading Framber this year to get back some more top prospects to help replenish the farm with top talent
I agree with you! Was thinking the same. But Altuve also lobbied Jim Crane very hard not to lose Bregman, but we still appear to have let him go. I don’t disagree with Crane at all. I just hope Altuve has some influence over Santander and Crane in this case. It would be a good fit. I’d even settle for “only” 30 home runs if I thought he could hit .250 to ..260. Would love to have Santander.
I think the Astros as of now are better offensively than last year on paper that is. Seeing as the Stros won the division basically without Tucker shows the team was talented enough. I thought before the season started the stros would not go back to the world series they looked tired and worn as they have been solid for seven straight years. I am expecting a better year this coming season and if they add Santander the lineup would be a serious contender to win it all offensively that is. One key for next season can Pena and McCormick have bounce back years if they do look out for the stros. I wish Bregman the best however his bat was not at a super star level and Tucker would have loved the Astros to keep him however the three pieces combined they got for him may pay great dividends. Go Stros !
29:31 yes, some of us already knew. But we (and Shipley's Donuts) are gonna keep on calling the Klobásník / Klobasnek the Kolache (Koláč / Kolach technically, yes) when we order our sausage or ham (or breakfast bacon/egg/cheese ones now!) ones because there's a reason that swap was made. The former is hard af for gringos to pronounce. The latter is a BIT easier to learn. Some Czech Texans with restaurants must have made the conscious decision to just give up and call them kolaches because 90%+ of their customer base could not or would not learn the correct word for 'em. What are ya gonna do, eh?
Everybody wants to worry about the future. They can't only worry about the future (key word only) they have to worry about the present also like going for another championship THIS SEASON. I understand the trades and it makes sense for Tucker and I would get the idea of trading Framber but it's impossible to win the WS without pitching and Framber is an ace caliber pitcher. Long story short I would rather them go for a championship with Framber with him walking after the season then trade now and lose an ace caliber pitcher when they obviously won't get another one in return. There's a reason the Rays and Brewers win games but don't win championships

Santander is a pipe dream at this point. Would love him in this lineup. Realistically looking at Hays or Verdugo. Younger than 30, No picks lost signing them, and could use a 1 year prove it deals to sign
They were gonna give Bregman supposedly 180-189mil deal unconfirmed as Dana said he made a "competitive offer".I think it is very realistic they could sign him.
@@TheCosmicLion I hope you’re right. The Astros have a very strong Hispanic culture that has drawn several guys here from Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Mexico, and others. I don’t see Santander in LF. I can see it in RF, but LF needs to be a little more than part timer - otherwise you can’t play Yordan in LF to DH Yainer when he isn’t catching. Realistically- to keep Yainer fresher - Caratini needs to catch 40 games - but you still want Yainer hitting 25 of those to keep the length in the lineup otherwise you are pushing Pena up the lineup again. It would be a good move but I don’t think it likely.
@ well the Astros offered him 156,000,000 over six years I believe. At this point it would be hard to believe that anybody could beat that by much… Or I should say would beat that by much.
Just out of curiosity has anyone tried to bird dog and see what the players were that the Astros could have picked in the drafts that they lost? We have said all along that these draft picks don't always pan out. The picking order of the Astros in this draft isn't going to be as good because they won the division.
The Astros would lose draft picks, but they would have Paredes, Walker, Alverez, Altuve, Diaz, and Santander for 3+ years. Can you imagine facing Altuve, Paredes, Alvarez, Walker, Santander, Diaz, Pena, McCormick, and Meyers? Alvarez and Santander could hit 40+hr, Paredes and Walker could hit 30+hr, Altuve and Diaz could hit 20+hr, and Pena, McCormick, and Meyers could hit 15hr. That would be crazy.
I like Santander on our roster. We can get on base but we don’t always hit the ball. He will bring in multiple RBI’s with his HR’s. He won’t hit as many home runs as he did last year but it would be good to keep that pop in our lineup.
Unrealistic to expect a player to take it deferred money deal while playing in the state of Texas. I’ll have to do the math, but I would guess being in the AL West does wonders for your tax situation. Especially once the athletics get set up in Nevada, four of the five teams in the division will play in tax-free states.
I don't get it...we let Kyle Tucker go who was awesome and became a star here with us only to go get Anthony Santander who is also great but just a little older?!? Why not just pay Tucker more...he had earned it...lefty power hitters are at a premium and an advantage...when will Crane understand this?? For the bare minimum I would have liked to see 1 more season of a fully fit Kyle Tucker and another World Series run!
Santanders value is roughly the same as Mitch Haniger. Look and compare their stats over the 746 games they each have played. Yes Santander has more pop BUT Haniger hit 30 something dingers in 22 i believe. It coyld be argued that Haniger is actually the better all around better player and his current contract is 3yr at 43mil total. That said yes i know its free agency and everyone has lost their minds for MO Money Mo Money but unless we cam get him on a 1-2 year deal with opt outs for 17-19million or less a year i say PASS.
Don’t really want him. He had an outlier of a year and he doesn’t really get on base. Not a good defender. And he wants his money for production in his 30s? Nah.
I was thinking Houston would sign Anthony Santander because he would fire up this offense in the lineup and this would be good for veteran presence in the organization to assist with the young outfielders if y’all understand what I am saying.
I believe Santander, and Altuve are really close, both Venezuelans.
