  • You could fit a small town on the footprint of a mall. Now, some cities are doing that.

Malls in the Philippines seem to be the opposite - well at least the ones that are thriving as there’s also a lot
of badly designed ones with terrible locations and features - are community centers with lots of things to do. There’s gardens, playgrounds, pet areas, ice skating rinks, there’s offices inside the mall and hotels connected, even areas for concerts and gatherings. Even government offices, like the department of foreign affairs, are found inside our malls. There’s chapels inside the malls so right after Sunday mass families can go straight to shopping. While these malls are booming, I am upset that these are the only public centers we have - we should have stronger community centers that aren’t necessarily linked to consumerism like public libraries and better parks

See our mall had a couple huge department store's close Zellers, Sears a Rona and a Canadian Tire. The people in our city want some kind of kids entertainment brought in. For example it's 3 floor. First could be a resturant, cafe/pub you can offer Pool, Darts, a mechanical Bull, ping pong, air hockey, non gambling card tables, even offer a wide variety of Board games or table top cames, candy store, any Merch and Prizes, arcade (with a special retro section for adults), even small rides, play ground for little kids. On the top floor laser tag, trampoline park, rock climbing, game's geared toward older kids and teenagers. The bottom floor we want another in door paintball arena. We have 1 huge one that took over the GM factories. It still has the pedestrian bridge connecting both sides over the road And making much cooler. You can add a video game area where you can play on big projection screens and are able to rent the space for birthdays and again offer retro systems for adults. You can have an area for computer gaming and hold tournaments. I would really like to see and old school Rollar Skating rink. You can have a bumper car track in the last sub basement. Virtual reality areas, a virtual driving range and batting range, basketball court or just one hoop for 1 on 1nor HORSE. Indoor skydiving and Skate Park. You can have an area for community classes for kids like babysitting course, first aid, Help and advocate groups, classes kind like community center. Making crafts and pottery. There is already a huge movie theater in this particular mall on the opposite end. They can offer a drop off while parents shop someone will basically keep an eye on your children for a fee you could include holidays, weekend's ECT basically a day care but for toddler's, preteens, teens (which I know doesn't need a babysitter but it never hurts to have a set of eyes around. . This would be an unbelievable space if done correctly and there is a proper investor able to put the money up, get local sponsors to sponsor a certain section used for advertising and such. Rent all the wall space ceiling to floor for signage and advertising, easy way to make some extra revenue. Now I know nothing can happen until Aunt Rona is gone but at least try to get started. If you made it This far I apologise for the length and I tried to make the best Grammer decisions so please be easy. For anyone who needs this today Just remember You are an amazing Person, your loved by many, Your never alone. Your not the only one. You are enough, you are realz you are valid. I believe in you.
Dont ever change for ANYONE. Be the Kick-Ass awesomeness you were born to be. 💚STAY SAFE💜FREE AND WILD💛PEACE💙

With on-line shopping taking alot of business away from traditional shopping centres I think malls must make the mall experience more attractive. Looks like Northgate is moving toward this goal. Housing, public gathering areas such as parks, theatres and yes a sports facility of some kind might just make malls viable again. Great viddy. Thanx!

Thanks! Thats a good point. Ellen Dunham-Jones told me that younger generations are generally more interested in experiences than things. So replacing box stores with parks, restaurants, theaters, or other social gathering places could be a way to appeal to a younger crowd.

Our industrial base was stolen in the 1970s on. People haven’t had earnings like that since. The shopping mall is still a viable space for community living

Ditch the mall altogether and just build a walkable dense town.

What comes next? Easy answer. Fulfillment centers. They will replace apparel, groceries and even home improvement stores. Of course, we still want dining and entertainment, and it will evolve to take on new looks. We still want home improvement DIY/rental store arrangement of some sort.
Shopping is no longer consider a ‘fun’ activity. Personally, it is a chore, and I suspect I’m in the majority.
