Why U.S. Malls Are Disappearing | Decoding Mall Architecture and Their 21st Century Demise

Ever wonder about MALL ARCHITECTURE? Or wonder why malls are dying in the 21st century? The first mall in America, Southdale, was designed by Austrian Jewish architect Viktor Grunbaum. Since Southdale, malls were a thriving building program in America. But, with the explosion of e-commerce from services like Amazon, eBay, and so on, the need for malls declined and thousands of malls closed. But, the architectural design and concept of the malls only exacerbated the situation. In this video essay, I explain why.
