When I arrived to NYC I had no citizenship neither green card, I was F1 student visa girl. And I went to Korea Town (close to Herald Square) Citi Bank, and there was a Cute Korean Banker who just offered me a credit card! And I still own it till this day! I do t know how did I qualified but he made it
Vivian!!! You’re right! I used the credit builder card and the capital one card with a (LOW) 510 score and IM IN THE 700 club!!!! I followed all your tips thank you!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉😊😊😊
I thought that the secure credit card dosent actually help your credit but that it shows the bank you basically utilized “Pretend credit” using your own money.
I been responsible with my payments & it’s been years & hasn’t passed the SCC stage.. do I need to be pay higher amounts? (I never pay less than 3x the minimum monthly payment)
What if youre in debt ? I have bad credit because I'm in debt $ 87k (thati haven't been able to even think about paying )From 3 college degrees and I only work part time? I llive paycheck to paycheck literally with no extra income for anything but gas amd food. I seriouslyneed help. I feel like I'm such a disappointment to my family. 😥
I'm sorry I don't get why you would be a disappointment unless you did something incredibly stupid. Paycheck to paycheck is exactly how 80% of American wage-earners live. Massive debt from student loans is normal. If your credit is shot bc of the loans, start paying them a pittance. Years ago, you could pay as little as $5/mo on your student loans, so if you had three loans, for $15/mo you could keep them out of collections. Not sure about today. AFAIK the secured credit cards she mentioned can be used by anyone. Most require a minimum $500 deposit. I've seen ads for as low as $50 deposit but I wouldn't really trust them. Don't have $500? Check your local pawn shops. Occasionally you can find one that will let you redeem your item in the first 30 days without paying interest or by paying a small fee. So you could hock something, get a card, and pay off the pawn. It would take some luck (and digging), but I've done similar things in the past. (Now I'm disabled and can't work, fixed income suuuuuuuuuuuuuxxxxxx)
So sorry to hear and things are not going so well for you financially… At least not yet! My son has student loans as well and his credit score is about 657 however, no one will give him a credit card! Not even stingy old Capital One! I have made him authorize user on my credit card to help enhance his credit score, and possibly lead him to getting a card on his own merit. He works and still lives at home. However, if he moves out on his own, there will be a credit check from the landlord, and I want him to be in the best position possible to be approved for his own apartment. It is very frustrating to say the least! But keep the faith… The subprime credit card vultures will give you a card securely, but the fees are sky high!
As an ex-credit card customer service rep, if your 16yo is working, I would suggest 1 of the "secured" cards mentioned in this video. The bank account to secure the card would be in the 16 yo's name as well as the card. HTH
If your child goes off to college they can also get a student card, which is made specifically for students to build credit, low credit line so they never use more money then they can afford.
@camallen1895 you need someone to cosign you to get started or have a stable job with long employment history and tax return to prove income to even get a 100$ secured card
@@rappersdelight3064don’t lie, I got the Discover It secured credit card 7 months ago, I had just 3 months living in the US, with no job and no credit history.
