USB factory restore must be created with SSD install. I rate Alienware 8 of 1, it's small and runs any HD games in mid. settings 1080p 30fps.
CPU upgradable, GPU is not upgradable, RAM is upgradable, HDD SDD is Upgradeable.
This is an incredible video! The Alienware I had re-inherited is the exact i3 model, which is a very nice project for me to upgrade just the processor. I had already replaced the CMOS battery and while I was at it, I had upgraded the mechanical HDD to a SDD, but a size cost.
Great Video. I just upgraded my Alpha w/ a 2TB SSD and 16GB DDR3 Ram and it made a world of difference!

Very good video. The details and are very thorough without wasting time. Very impressive. I bought a more powerful brick that fits the specs of my unit A1 so that I can try upgrading to a faster CPU. One thing to look for that helped me was whether it is a Haswell CPU or not. This made the specs easier to keep track of for me.

Great video man! I never got bored. Personally, I would never go with that keyboard with integrated trackpad instead of an actual mouse but I have no idea what you bought it for which could be very different than what I bought mine for, so no hate there. Gave it a like.

disagree with your comment about the WAN card in the alpha. It has a built in dual channel card that supports 802.11ac and you can even connect to the 5ghz frequency on modern routers. I typically get better wifi speeds than my roommates on their laptops ( one of my roommates is using a 2015 macbook pro) Granted LAN is always better i still think the factory card isnt bad. You of course can always upgrade it if you want something better

This comment is way old, but I acquired this as a hand-me-down and I am pretty happy with it. However, I have been thinking of upgrading it to play more stuff. ( I mainly play FFXIV, but been wanting to play something else and more demanding). I want to upgrade to an i7 processor and get more RAM. However, I was told that it is better to drop the money on a newer tower with a more powerful graphics card, i7 processor and even more RAM as the price to upgrade my Alpha is hard of the price to get a new tower. Any suggestions?
anyone have idea what to do ? I had yellow light and lived with it I juat had to unplug power adapter for a hour or switch power few times to power on normally , but now even bios battery change and bios reset with a jumper doesn't work

I have the Alpha R2 and it has 16g RAM i7-6700T processor in it problem is I would like to upgrade that to an even higher cpu but all I hear is you can't but I cannot find any literature as to why except for size and heat but no FOR SURE black and white answer as what the upgrade on a CPU could go.... I just bought the RTX 2080Ti and I have it running in my Alienware graphics amplifier but I hear the minimum recommended CPU for that is the I7-8700K can this be done or what? No solid answers on this nowhere or explanations other than the possibility of a heat issue. Can you help me out I would appreciate it?

You cant even hook the amplifier up to this model like it says and leaves a link to it has to have the right connector on the back.

What cpu size socket is it?
I recommend reinstalling a fresh Windows 8.1 or 10 without the bloatware. It's an excellent console for intensive gaming and streaming with GTX 840M GPU, not bad... but your PS4 can do better. However your RAM and CPU is upgradable and it is a tiny console that is very portable. If you move a lot and don't want to drag around a massive tower PC, the Alpha is the way to go.

king spook that doesn’t matter, the heat sink would be fine. Unless you wanted to overclock, I would cut out a section of the side and run an AIO with maybe a USB to fan header adapter or something for the fans on the aio.

+sexymilo83 There are 2 Versions, one is WINDOWS 10 ALPHA version the other is the STEAM version. You can of course save $100 and load STEAM APP on the Windows version. I have heard STEAM does not work on a lot of ORIGIN and DRM (Digital Rights Management) models. Plus the GPU is not upgradable, it's hard soldered on the motherboard, version of the 860M. Better off getting a Razer V1 case for $60 and a mini itx board with a decent graphics card that will fit inside of it.

it is a PC that is designed to function as a console. I use it almost exclusively as a PC. When I want to play games on steam, with a controller, I go to 'console' mode and use a Razer Sabertooth controller. Treat it like a PC though.

There is a desktop mode, which has Windows already installed. You can use it in either console or desktop mode. I use mine almost exclusively in desktop mode.

+adam ahmed I see. I have upgraded my Windows without it effecting the Alienware UI at all. I think they are partitioned so one doesn't actually effect the other. I would make a full recovery back up before you do it, just in case.

+Bobo Rara There is no CARD, it's a CHIP soldered on the motherboard equivalent to a 860M. GPU is NOT upgradeable. You could build a MINI ITX system much better then this thing. You obviously DID NOT watch the entire video.

Are you talking about upgrading to an i7 or purchasing the i7, because I purchased the i7 Alpha when they first came out, and it definitely has the power to use it.

If you want the i7 but don't have the money for it, I recommend getting the AMD a10. For about $90+ you can excel 20% faster than the i7, but uses a lot more power.
