Fun fact: Mystique was first a random drawing by Dave Cockrum of a sexy lady with a skull on her forehead. Someone in the bullpen colored her blue (maybe Marie Severin) and this caught Claremont's eye one day. He demanded this drawing be turned in to a full character. Cockrum was supposed to be working on Ms. Marvel for some time at that point but could never find the time. Mystique seemed a natural enemy for Marvel's premiere feminist magazine. Naturally, when the book got cancelled, Claremont did what he always did with favorite characters: brought them over to X-Men.
Cockrum was also responsible for Carol's more well-known blue thigh-high look with the sash, by the way. Top designer of the 70s in my book!
Lastly, I just got my hands on that Alien book. Gonna look it over. Simonson and Goodwin is always a great combo.
Thanks for sharing! Cockrum was a BEAST! I really wish Ms Marvel would have held on long enough for Rogue to be properly introduced. I hope you enjoy the Alien book!
Cockrum designed the new Legion of superheroes including Timberwolf who marvel swiped to design Wolveroach.
Uncanny X-Men were unused character designs for Legion of superheroes that were unused.
The X-Men are basically the Legion of Superheroes.

@@CoMoComicBooks yeah man you got talent. More more more please 😁
Thanks for another unbiased, informative vid Drew.
Adams' Superman/ Action Comics covers are still pretty easy to find for an affordable price. A few still fly under the radar. Much easier to acquire than his Batman/Detective Comics books which are harder than ever to find anywhere but online.
That FRIGHT #3 is a phantom of a book. Very difficult to find.
That 1st Harry Osborn Goblin was the gem of my collection when I was 12 lol. Great cover and a great issue overall. PP and MJ come perilously close to being blown to bits courtesy of a bomb planted by Harry !
Oh yeah! Adams’ Bat stuff is tough on the wallet. I’m glad you enjoyed the video!
@@CoMoComicBooks They sure are ! I have almost all of them now, and all the most expensive one's I picked up ages ago thankfully..
I have a FN/VFN MS.Marvel 18 in my for sale box but I'm hanging on to it for now. I want to get some decent money for it.
Man I've been trying to get a high grade copy for a good price of Action Comics #419 I love that cover
It’s just classic Superman, right? I feel like it has a similar vibe to Superman The Movie.
Awesome list and great suggestions for books to find for under $100. Hard to believe we are already halfway to Halloween. Love the New Mutants 87 suggestion. Since the supply is high on that issue, there's a good chance to find it for under $100 in high grade.
NM87 LOVES to yo-yo up and down in price. I’ve bought it for $50 and seen times where it would sell for $225 raw. It’s definitely not a book I worry about needing to pick up if the price isn’t right.
hey drew,
like some of your choices,...think i have a copy of that alien mag,....not really much of an alien really, but its nice to know its going up in valuee some,....i love that ff annual book, underrated for along time i buy it whenever i see it,....mainly bc of psycho man,.....
FF Annuals have quite a few sleeper issues in there. It’s nice to see some of them finally getting a little attention!
Appreciate the X-Men spoiler warning. I just started that series. Nice choices for your list too!
I didn’t want it to be too subtle. I thought the show started off a little slow, still good, just a little slow. That said, it quickly starts to snowball and is really great by the end.
I don't know that I've ever seen that Alien book, but I now know that I need one 😂
I have been on the SpongeBob series for a while. I've been trying to complete the run, but everyone has started catching on which has jacked the prices up. I've also been working on a foreign cover set for SpongeBob #1, and I'm exited about that. Always look out for SpongeBob #43, too; that's a Bill Sienkiewicz Hulk #340 homage, and it is glorious!
Very nice! There is no shortage of Alien copies out there. I promise it will be much easier to find than your SpongeBob run will be. Thanks for watching!
I never knew how important FF Annual 5 was, I need to get one.
Anything Lee/Kirby put out in their FF run might pop up at any moment. Or so it seems.
I’d say my collecting goals are being 100% met lol
You’ve been putting in some work!
That Freddy cover is a beauty
I like that it doesn’t try to be overly realistic. It’s just playful and kookie, which is perfect!
Love the who's line is it callback
YES! I use that reference all the time and feel like most people miss the connection.
Sponge Bob #1 is one of my "Grails" ....🤓 Hey I already have Gumby #1 .....hummmmm !!! Think I'll just go for it !!!👍
I’ve never found one before and I don’t see them very often either, but I feel the same way. Time to track one down.
@@CoMoComicBooks hey .... i found Gumby in the dollar bin, much to my surprise ( collect responsibly ) c u later Drew !
I just bought an 8.5 Newstand Ms.Marvel #18 for under a hundred last month and plan on getting it signed at heroes con. I’m also extremely shocked at how cheap that book is.
SA-WEET! That’s what I’m talking about! Have fun a Heroes! I’m green with envy!
i havnt been an active comic book collector in 20 years and im now organizing my old collection for resale. i bought a price guide and ive been watching comic book videos on youtube to get an idea on what my books might be worth now. back in the 80s when i was the most active i recall that people paid multiples of values in the price guide on some books because the price guide was a little off recent demand/supply on those books and nowadays i understand that slabbed books also sell for multiples for obvious reasons. what im confused about is why a bronze age neal adams action comics valued in price guide at $38 in fine condition is according to you something id now have to pay $100 for. im actually not complaining about having to pay $100 for such a nice bronze age neal adams cover but why does overstreet value it at $38? at this point id think the value on a book like that should be pretty much set in stone. its probably a very stupid question to ask but dont forget i havnt dealt in comics for 20 years and im way out of touch on stuff like that. i will be posting my books on ebay with set prices cuz ebay auctions are so dicey now but im worried ill be pricing my books too low.
id really appreciate any tips on pricing i can get and thank you ahead of time.
My recommendation would be to spend some time researching eBay sold prices for comparable grade examples before pricing your books at Overstreet values on buy it now listings. Overstreet’s problem is that by the time the book is in your hand, the prices are already stale (at best) and worse yet the values within are just opinions of value. With all of the resources we have available to us today, and with an extremely fluid market, you need the most up to date pricing data available. Overstreet has also never been the best at valuing more modern books. For years the guide would go to print showing a book that costs hundred of dollars in the open market as being valued at $20-$50, but it also goes the other direction as well. As much as I love Overstreet, it’s a static resource for a very dynamic market.
Best wishes for the sale of your collection!
8 for 10 all in very high grade.....cuz that's how I roll
🏆 That’s pretty dang good! What are you missing?
@@CoMoComicBooks alien and blade
Drew ✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️
Thanks for watching Luis!
I'm really surprised Cable and Mystiques first appearances are 100 dollars or below . These are popular characters
They yo-yo back and forth a lot. We’re soundly in a dip at the moment.
Can't get a good cable for under 100. Too hot.
They’re out there! I hope you’re able to track one down!
NM#87 was penciled by the ToddFarther and only inked by Rob (really cannot draw at all) Liefeld. And thank the good lord for this.
Comics.org only gives Todd credit for inking the cover. Though I am inclined to agree that less Liefeld, is better Liefeld.
Less is more, I like Leifeld better because he's a Kamandi fan.
An early issue had a gorilla named Ram Jam, a few years later a new band named Ram Jam had a hit song Black Betty, I think they got the name from Kirby.
