      Thanks so much Grond! I hope that I can always dig up a couple of books to talk about that may not be front of mind for everyone. We’re fortunate to have a lot of content creators and resources that help keep us informed, but sometime it can sound like an echo chamber. I want to make sure I’m not just rehashing the same books as the rest of the internet. Thanks again for watching. I’m glad that you enjoy the content to the extent that you look forward to it.

    I always get excited for your era lists. Also I dig your summery on the years 1991 and 1992. Some of my favorite things from pop culture came out in those years, namely Richard Linklaters Slackers. It was a great time of change as you mentioned, and an end of an era that set the stage for everything after it. Thanks for the video! Ps, its badass that we both live in a Columbia. Mine is in TN.

      I went with ASM 316 and Batman 423. I think you nailed it as far as some of his most iconic cover work pre-Spawn, and I wouldn’t mind picking up the Hulk on your list as well.
      Browsing around the internet...I was pretty surprised that he didn’t make any of the lists for best comic artist. Growing up, he was far and away the best....followed by Liefield. All subjective I guess.

    Oh man... I have that Bone #1 (1'st and 2'nd printing) I collected and still have the first 6-8 comics of series back when it first came out... as well as some of the others you mentioned here just sitting in a box since I got them back in the day. Guess I should go through my collection and figure out what the heck else I have and what to do with them. I do know I had TMNT first printings #4-12 but sold them when I was a kid.. like a fool. Also sold that 300 spider man and Hulk at the same time. But I do still have my Tick comics (#1 2'nd printing unfortunately).

    Great video as always! Hey, got a weird question for you. Batman 423 is popular/valuable because of the Todd McFarlane cover. Nobody ever mentions the story inside and as I recall, it's a pretty standard Batman issue for the time. That being said, I own a page of original (Dave Cockrum) art from the book. Not sure if you're into original art but I'm curious as to your opinion about whether or not it's worth more because 423 is hot or is it just all about that cover? I'd never sell it as it's one of the few things from my old collection that survived our house fire...just curious.

    • @CoMoComicBooks
      @CoMoComicBooks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey sir! The story really is solid, in my opinion. Cockrum original art, is still Cockrum original art. That said, an interior page of an issue that’s most notable for its cover will rarely outshine the cover art. However, a classic artist drawing a legendary character is always going to have marketability. Sorry to hear about the fire. That is a nightmare scenario for so many of us.

Side note to the Cockrum art...True story and I still can't believe it. I was stationed in DC from 1987-90. Probably sometime in late 89, I attended a small monthly comic con at a Howard Johnson's hotel. Dave Cockrum was the guest of honor and he had a pile of original art for sale on his table. I had hit the dealer room first and was more or less tapped out. I asked him how much he was selling the art for expecting some crazy figure way out of my budget and I swear on my cat...$5 per page. I only had $10 so I got the 423 page (It's the one where Batman fights the thug with a mohawk and threatens him through clenched teeth) and a page from Silver Surfer. He had several covers displayed on easels and I was ready to go donate plasma to get one but he was not selling those. He was super nice and it's one of the highlights of my nerd life.

    Sincere question:
    If you could grab a CGC slabbed comic graded at 7.5, or snag the ungraded comic (same issue) that appears to be pristine (both having white pages,) which do you typically choose?
    I recently snagged a CGC slabbed 7.5 (White Pages) of ASM #316. I chose this copy over a CGC slabbed 8.5 (with Off-White pages,) saving myself roughly $150. In addition, the 7.5 looks flawless both front and back, even flaunting a crease-free spine. Whereas the 8.5 had several white eyelash-creases along the spine.
    Am I crazy for trusting my eyes (and saving some cash) over an arbitrary number displayed on a clear piece of acrylic?

    • @CoMoComicBooks
