K5 Blazer Resurrection Part 2 - More Rusty Floor Pan Replacement and Repair

- It's been a crazy and busy couple weeks so I haven't had a ton of time to get on the 1989 Chevy K5 Blazer out in the shop. So here is more cutting, fitting, trimming, fitting, etc. to try and get the floor pans ready to go. Hopefully in the next video I can get the small patch panels made and start putting the front floor back together.

Dude, what are you talking about? You’re doing amazing. It is a lot of work. Take it easy. Don’t get frustrated. Don’t give up. If you have an issue walk away. Have a beer. Take a breather. Do something else when you get back you’ll have an amazing idea. To leap forward over the obstacle. By the way I love the truck keep up the good work man patience it is a lot of work.

It’s relaxing to watch, it’s torture to do 😂. I do love how they all rot out in their own certain way, your rear floor support beam looks great on the ends and where they’re spot welded on, mine not so good but my rear floor where it ramps up to the bed was in great shape where as I see yours was pretty much rotted all the way across. My inner rockers are trashed all the way down, but when she’s all buttoned up it’s very rewarding.

That is freaking awesome! I had a boss that used to say, "if you learn something new then your day hasn't been wasted". It's something I try to live by to this day. Keep up the good work!

Im going thru the same battle. Passenger floor and rocker are non existent on my k5. I cut out the parts I needed out of a different year pickup cab. What a cluster. Seam sealer is your friend.

I have never done anything like this, so your videos are an excellent tutorial as they show the whole process in a time lapse. Keep it going and I'll keep watching! I think your doing a good job brother. You are doing what you need to do. Test fitting...cutting...test fitting and so on. I am by no means a body man, but in my life I have owned many, many Squarebobies. I have two projects in my shop now, both 82s. One is a factory 2wd Blazer, the other is a Extracab. It is amazing you have such terrible floors, and good rockers. If you need any hard to find body parts hit me up, I may have them, or know someone who does. More than likely just going to cost you shipping. I belong to a couple of Squarebody sites, we help each other out as much as possible, anything to keep these Squares on the road. My 91 blazer had the corners rusted out behind the front seats and on the hump in the middle right behind the front seats. It was a bear to fix, but turned out pretty well. Hopefully it won't rust out again too soon haha

Man, its good to see something come together! I have a 77 K5 that needs some floor pans replaced. I feel you on the not wanting a beauty queen just a floor that keeps the outside, OUTSIDE...
The floors are a pain, but they should last as least the rest of my life. After that it's someone else's problem!

Love the channel! I just found it today, i have a 86 k5 that is in really bad need of a floor lol mainly driver side and rear. I havnt welded or anything like this and im.so nervous to attempt since i still drive it....but ya know, i dont even know where to start tbh, and i loce squares ever since my dad gave me my 85 k5 when i was 7, but since his passing we had to sell it, hated it so much
Thanks! All you really need to do the floors are some tools, space, time and the nerve to get started! This floor is the first I have ever done and it was very intimidating at first. Sorry to hear about your dad, and good luck with the Blazer!

I also have a K5 Blazer 87 model , my floors were actually pretty good and solid all around , some small stress cracks around seat bolt holes but pretty good , replaced seals around top por 15 the floor some new interior and got it running pretty good then the rear end popped like a grenade and took out the trans also so mine is on the back burner for now .
Nothing like a failure out of the blue to completely take the wind out of your sails. Hopefully you'll get it back to the front burner and get that K5 on the road!

I'm doing my 1st bit of body work on my 1986 K 5 Blazer replacing floor pans front and rear its a Learning curve for sure ! Keep up the good work looks like you and I both have similar rust issues to deal with !

You are doing a great job, thank you for recording for us! I just purchased the exact same blazer, I have a lot more hidden rust than first thought. Please keep posting as I am following everything you are doing. I busted my knuckles years ago but little body work. I am really enjoying trying to restore but can only work on it now and then, VERY bad back but I tell my wife hopefully Ill have it far enough completed they can put my casket back there.....I'm not liking the floor pans either! I have already removed the rear floor or the bed, should have stopped there but continued on with some floor not knowing the body mounts under seat, or crossmember with the mounts were broke, my cab dropped some. I wonder if anyone has dimensions on these blazers? Anyway, please keep posting. Sorry to ramble on with my issues. But, if I could get some measurements somewhere I would be grateful.
The worst part about rust is the more you fix the more you seem to find! I'm getting ready to start on the bed floor, so maybe that will help some. That stinks about the cab dropping, I ran into a similar issue when I bent the main floor support on the driver's side.

Thanks! This is my 1st time doing pans, so I am learning a bunch. If you have an air hammer/chisel it'll save a ton of time and then you don't have to drill all of them out like I did.

Have you seen fitzee’s fabrications? Check him out. I used one of his tips, Place the new panel over the old one or make sure it’s bigger than the hole. Then cut through both panels together with a thin disc at an angle. This makes a perfect fit as you go. Also allows for any gaps getting tighter as you weld. Just go a few inches at a time.

This is awesome, I have to do the same thing to mine, just a bit more rust on mine. How are you going to reinforce and mount the front seats?
To be honest, I hadn't thought that far ahead. The sheet metal should be fine for mounting them, but will definitely need to have something between the nut and the bottom of the floor. Kind of like a large washer or thicker sheet of steel to keep the nut from pulling through in case of an accident.
@@goodenuffcustoms I am looking at cutting some mounts off of an OBS chevy and welding them to mine when I do it.
Got any idea on taillight backing plate the corners behind Grey plastic taillight housing mine is gone were bottom screws go can't by them can't find them
I'd either find one that's being scrapped (good luck on that!) and cut what you need off, or you'll have to make you're own patch panel for it. Good luck!
When doing floor rocker repairs where should I start outside in inside out?
You know, I’m not sure. I haven’t had to replace an outer rocker yet. I think I would brace the door opening (so it doesn’t move) and start cutting the outside and work my way in. And then replace from the inside and work my way out. Mortske Repair did a C10 rocker and part of the floor a while back, I’d check that one out too. th-cam.com/video/Xb6zJv9TDKo/w-d-xo.html
Where did you buy all the floor pans? Do you reccomend them? Good qualitt
I ordered them from AMD - Auto Metal Direct. They are pretty good quality, unfortunately some of the areas didn't line up very well. (That appears to be an issue for all manufacturers though.) I was able to cut and widen a couple of places to make them fit the correct way.
One question regarding the panels, I am planning to get mine from AMD as well, how was the freight shipping?
I didn't have to go with freight shipping on mine, so I couldn't tell you. I do know those guys are pretty good to deal with.
