Great video. I've got an 84 K5- all original with a 305 and 4 speed. I'm doing basic maintenance and just driving it around locally. Eventually it will be restored to its original condition and driven every day. Keep up the good work guys.

I remember when I brought my 87 K5 home a year ago. I was talking like you. I just knocked off the last of the cob webs changing the EGR and IACV. Rock n Roll.
I took the top off my 87 added 8 in. From crew cab top on down. Now have nice 2 seater with 5ft 5in bed. Like your work

Here's an idea... Since it seems you like the spare tire holder and may be keeping it, to keep with the K5 4WD theme you could keep the 4wd shifter but modify it for either a parking brake handle or drift brake! haha. It would be sweet to see that thing layed out on the ground with a spare tire on the back!
We're definitely keeping the spare tire rack but hadn't thought about keeping the 4x4 shifter. Great idea. Not trying to hide that it was 4wd.

I feel like its deja vu when I bought my k5... I had to pressure wash 1 or 2 years of crap off it and I'm currently restoring my k5 on my channel in my driveway right now. But I'm doing all my metal work and everything else even the paint!!! But can't wait to see your k5 done great video bud!

I knew I'd get that response from some. We're definitely keeping it and repairing it.
Go through off road design and get for inch shackel flips and put them on the rear end. You will be impressed with the height of the K5 and bye leaf springs for the front end 9 inch rhino line the in side and under coat the bottom I did it to mine
This body is going on our 2wd air ride suspension. I have another k5 that will remain 4x4.

Floor looks really good. Them are some small holes and easy to repair... Glad you caught it now... Couple more years and it would have been alot more work

Nice video. I got a 73 with all the rust cut out of the rockers and floor pans. Ordered all new metal and I'm waiting to see how Mike gets all the parts welded back together on your K5. It's like a puzzle under there. Looking forward to your next video.

I think one of neighbor's called in on you unless you have HOA which I can't stand them always nick picking. How often does the city make a big deal about this king of stuff, you know I think if you buy a house you should be able to do what you want you paid for it right! And it's not like you have junk yard there. Next thing they will say you have too many vehicles. As for the K5 build looks to be coming along great have a great one.
No doubt about it! No HOA. Definitely new neighbor. It was a real estate agent at the old house. But i love this area so I’m just going to work around it

I lowered, did rear end, bed and door swap. pulled motor and trans and cut off step side fender all in my driveway and I live in town.

@@UNITEDBYTRUCKS just got back home, 1980 k5. 4wd 350 motor. Now what to do with it lol? Maybe for now put it in the back yard with the other square bodies lol.
I live in city limits(no h.o.a.)and I've dellt with my city (in Kentucky) a few times. I eventually got in touch with a lawyer and he told me that in KY you can have ONE vehicle if it's considered a parts truck or project car/truck ect... that's not up to date on tags and license, you have to have proof of insurance to get all of that. It can just be sitting in your driveway, torn apart or whatever as long as it's tagged/licensed/insured. They just want to steal your money in the form of "taxes". They were all over me until I walked in and said I don't have to do anything with the old truck because I know I'm allowed to have ONE!! They said oh ok...thanks sir....could you just put a cover on it or something. They were gonna fine me $50 a day if it wasnt gone in 5 days...blah blah,blah....Crooked bastards

Crazy that 2wd had more rust than the 4x4 that usually sees more mud and and off roading. My 86 Jimmy was a rotten piece of Swiss cheese, but what to expect for $700

If you own your house, turn that dimb carport into a garage! I know you folks dont get the harsh winters like we have up north, but a carport is 85% of a garage! Finish the damn thing!!
Nah, the carport matches the aesthetic of the house. It's an architectural thing.
Sounds fancy. You should see my carport literally built out of junk trashy lumber and old tin 😆 I should be ashamed.
I assume lmc or someone makes a complete floor pan kit and rockers. Definitely worth the money to replace it all in one shot then seal everything really good with a rust converter and encapsulator and it will last forever. I did it in my truck cab with the rust converter then sprayed it all in raptor bed liner in the cab and underside then put a large pack on 80 mil deadener over it cabs rust free and very quiet now
That's the plan but we're using Auto Metal Direct for all of the metal

Yes sir. Already have the sheetmetal in hand to fix this. Auto Metal Direct had everything we needed.

Man the k5 needs to the rust fixed, the floor sanded down and then the whole inside sprayed in a exterior color matched bed liner. Then put some carpet up front and done.
Currently getting fixed.

May want to check the seatbelt mounts where they retract.I had to fix the ones on mine because of the rust ate up the structure

Also been thinking... I wonder if a 2003 up Silverado frame could be shoehorned under a K10??? Would get two of my bucket list items in one shot.

I gotta be honest its too bad all the money you fork out for a house these days and all the taxes you pay and house taxes on the property you should be able to do what you want I could see if the house looked like a total junkyard and the city getting after someone but for real most of us out there try and keep the property looking decent with our project rigs on site why bother people like that, especially when you got a long driveway and a carport things are getting bad out there, most likely it was some neighbors that complained.

Yes, that's correct. I own it but the city apparently has "ordinances" on what I can do on my own property within the city limits. I live in a nice area right next to the historic district so I get it, but I kept my stuff hidden and mostly cleaned up. And I live here bc the quality of life is awesome and this is where my wife grew up. I'll either build a separate garage or get space offsite.
