"Thadingyut" Festival, also known as Myanmar’s Lighting Festival, marks the end of Buddhist Lent and is held on the full moon day of the Burmese month of "Thadingyut". The festival lasts for at least three days: the day before the full moon, the full moon day itself when Buddha descends, and the day after. Buddhists celebrate to welcome the Buddha and his disciples by enlightening and festooning the streets, houses and public buildings with colored electric bulbs or candles, which represent those three stairways. The three-day festival features illuminated streets, traditional performances, food stalls, and fireworks. Buddhists visit pagodas, pay homage to monks, and seek forgiveness from elders, receiving blessings and gifts in return. This is the second most popular festival in Myanmar after "Thingyan" Festival (New Year Water Festival).
