As a Christian, when I took my family to see a San Francisco Giants baseball game recently, I sat in disbelief as the city of San Francisco, in collaboration with the Giants, went way way over the top in its celebration of pride month. First, the team gave out free gay pride hoodies, with the SF logo decorated in rainbow colors. I thought ok, I can live with that. But that was just the beginning. Then, a whole series of pre game events took place, starting with (too) many stories on the jumbo screen about how various couples overcame discrimination to be together, and how wonderful the new political climate is. One real life story after another was presented on screen -- the victim virtue signaling was nauseating --until I started thinking about leaving. The climax was stunning: 5 lgbtq couples got legally married on the field just before the game started !! I couldn't talk to my older son about the unreality of it all because we were surrounded by gay couples in our section, so I just looked at him and whispered that I would explain it all to him later. Thank you for taking the time to read this: my only sanity during that 30 minute sequence was texting my best friend, another Christian, to tell him that I think I came to a cult ritual by mistake and somehow ended up at the wrong event. I guess that makes me a homophobic bigot now? Remember, if you are ever accused of being phobic, push back with " you have no idea what another person feels!"
