- (14 Aug 1972) Rhodesian Olympic team attending the official flag raising ceremony in the Munich Olympic Village where under the ruling of the Olympic Committee the old colonial flag was hoisted and the British National anthem played.

Provided they used the old flag and the old anthem were they allowed to participate in the games.
This action was opposed by the right wing in Rhodesia who wanted to use the new flag and new anthem, or not participate in the games at all.
Rhodesia got doubled cucked in this instance because they followed the rules about the flag/anthem yet when the time for participation came, they were barred from competing in the events of the games.
This was a result of threats to protest the games by certain governments.
It will always upset me how people in foreign countries can wag their fingers at another country that they will most likely never visit for themselves.
Rhodesia, Zimbabwe-Rhodesia, and Zimbabwe have all been destroyed.
Yet the people who wagged their fingers in the long ago are long since dead, never having to suffer a single modicum of a consequence for their actions.

Rhodesia only got its flag in 1970 and Rhodesia only got its own National Anthem in 1974.

When Rhodesians were Rhodesians, namely in the Team One can see somebody who is black, but the Jewish Government of Great Britain wanted to destroy Rhodesia, leaving this nice Country in the hands of Robert Mugabe who only knew to sink the most prosperous Nation of the Black Africa; so much Blacks as Whites Long for the Former Rhodesia: we a many loved Rhodesia and still love this beautiful Land, since Rhodesia was torn apart, but not killed, Rhodesia is still alive.

@Kavniar No, You are wrong, not against the right of the Black Rhodesians for governing themselves, but to giving the Country to This One was a crime, since the White Rhodesians are citizens with Rights, too, and there was a Black Rhodesian Leader who was the solution for everybody, Muzorewa, but the Damned British wanted the destroyer of the Nation, and not a Good Leader for the Country.
@Kavniar It's different, in My Country the situation, as elsewhere, is because of the people who vote for voting for Discotheques, Boxes of Beers and plates of sows, not for true Politicians with proposals, that's not equal to Rhodesia that was given to a destroyer who sank the Country.

I always felt the Rhodesian team compromised themselves by accepting that flag. Didn't do them any good anyway. It was an impossible situation!
Legally they had no choice. It was accept that the world still viewed them as a British colony, or nothing (and they still ended up with nothing thanks to politics).
I don't get it, why are they using the old flag?
Because it wasn't internationally recognised as having declared independence, and nor was its right to change its national symbols or declare itself a republic. It didn't even adopt its own national anthem until 1974, and when it did, it used the melody of 'Ode to Joy'.
mikek17 Britain and the In did not recognize Rhodesia's UDI not even the green white green tricolor Britain still claimed the colonial flag was the true official flag of Rhodesia the flag that was flying in the video wasn't even the most recent flag before UDi the Rhodesian colonial flag was the same the union jack and the oat of arms but rather than dark blue it was light blue.

@@gideonhorwitz9434 They didn't even recognise the light blue flag. That was only adopted inside Rhodesia as a protest against the Federation and also the British refusal to let them be called Rhodesia after Northern Rhodesia got independence.
it is what happens when Britain fights itself. Confusion. Britain disowns Rhodesia, Rhodesia shows up at the Olympics carrying a British ensign and anthem to mock Britain proper!
