We're transforming this 90 acre property into a self reliant homestead and farm stay vacation rental. We're building infrastructure to accomodate future growth such as barns, duck house, 7 coop chicken house, water hydrants, planting an orchard, building a garden etc. Chickens, ducks, geese, rabbits, barn cats and two old english sheepdogs make up our team here at the farm. Please follow along on our journey of transforming this place into something special.

    Thanks for the tour! I like the way you keep your rabbits. I can't stand seeing the way most people raise their rabbits - keeping them in metal cages all their lives. You let them be rabbits, run around, dig burrows. It's great. Also love the fun names for all of your buildings. 😊

    From a cat rescuer- it's more important to spay the females than to neuter the males. There could always be a feral male wandering around but a fixed female is a done deal regarding kittens. We fix all our cats, but the females first and foremost. We have night catio enclosures too, good job.

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  ปีที่แล้ว

      Aww thanks so much. Haha watch Thursdays video it’ll have some poop in it 😂 most animals don’t poop where they sleep but I find with poultry & water fowl they just drop it wherever. Cleanup can be more difficult in winter cause it’s frozen. We also use the deep bedding method so it adds many layers of poop and straw and acts like insulation.

    You really have a beautiful place there! You are living my dream! I could never do any outdoors type stuff because I get overheated too easily and get heat stroke. So instead I watch TH-cam videos and live through you all. Hey Chad, I am wondering if you will get your female cats spayed in addition to the boys? It's much healthier for them and will stop them from constantly going into heat and possibly roaming away from home. No judgement here, just a thought! I love your content and appreciate you taking me along! Love from Texas ❤ (85° F here today, 29° C) 😰

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aww thanks, well you just take it easy and I’ll keep the videos coming 😉 long story short about the cats. The boys r all fixed now but the girls are not. The vets up here in Ontario wanna charge me like $700 to spay the girls. That’s crazy. Big business here. The boys were only $165 each. Molly the sheepdog was $1000 for her spay. We have no neighbours really too so I just didn’t spay them for now. 😊

    Love your farm, the animals and all your animal houses! We just moved to our 10 acre homestead in Canada too in Nov and so far our cats have been in our house all winter but we are worried about predators like coyotes in the summer. They are used to going outside in the warm months but come home every night. Do you find locking them up at night is sufficient to protect your cats from coyotes?

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s awesome thnx so much. I’m happy for u guys, getting out the city was the best decision we ever made. Where abouts in Canada? We’re in Horseshoe Valley, Ontario (close to Orillia & Barrie) we lost our best cats to coyotes when I used to free range them, Stormy used to ride on my shoulders everywhere even in my tractor. I miss her dearly. Yes we protect the cats nightly now in the catio & cat house/workshop. Haven’t lost any in daytime but most likely because of our 2 sheepdogs, Olive barks loud at any little noise. Olive is a great guard dog but Molly is a big pushover and cuddle bear. Our dogs don’t live outside either, they’re really just companions. Something you should think about is getting a “farm” dog or an lgd if you have tons of predators. Our cats are mostly trained to come back when I call, easy in winter cause they don’t go far but in summer sometimes it takes more than an hour for them to come back. We have 4 younger cats that haven’t been outside yet as I don’t trust they’ll come back. Gonna try two of them this summer I think they’re ready, but two I’ve somehow turned a bit feral and are retraining. Always fun though, a lot of ups and downs too. Best of luck at your new farm. Chad & the gang. ✌️

    • @stephandjuliaseden
      @stephandjuliaseden ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much for the reply! We're on the Quebec side. Yeah we are on a wait list to get a St Bernard. Our property is narrow and we're a bit too close to neighbours to have a lgd that would bark all night but we think having the St bernard out during the day will be super helpful to deter coyotes etc. And we do plan to bring our kitties home every night. Same as how we lock our chickens up after dark. It's too dangerous for them to be out all night. Just scared about what could happen even during the day but hearing you say that you havnt had day attacks is encouraging!

  • @alfheib
    @alfheib ปีที่แล้ว

    Give her 6 but Alexa guinea fowl. Lakeshake Jennifer like alarms any predators are coming in the area.. from what I understands you have to acclimate them to your property slowly but surely..

    • @alfheib
      @alfheib ปีที่แล้ว

      I keep hitting the wrong button.. I'm just curious if you can put goats and sheep in the same area... That might be an idea for your pasture area is sheep in goats... They're good for controlling weeds and their produce milk makes the coast produce milk and they're both food.. I see the couple of the TH-cam channels that have one or two cows.. they produce enough milk for what they need for their property and around the house with your kids they make cheese out of it and make butter out of it ... I mean the milk.. I was just curious if you had any interest in any of these other.
