    Thanks for the good video. I imagine you can use just a half gallon of milk, too???

      @@jackieperkins691 yes, of course. Halve the ingredients, but the time is still the same. The yogurt still needs to incubate for a minimum of 6 hours. I actually like to do it overnight.

    Hi Olga! Here's a tip for a warm place for yeast dough, yogurt, sourdough starter... anything that is fermenting and needs warmth. I have a microwave over my stovetop. It has lights that shine on the stove. The lights generate a nice gentle heat, probably 80-85 degrees, inside the microwave. I use that space to raise bread and have used it to make yogurt. You can even use your car to make yogurt. I lived in inland Southern California and had a night job at a newspaper. In the blistering summer, I would prepare the milk and some of last week's yogurt, pack it in containers, and leave it in my car when I went into the office at about 3 p.m. The sun would go down and the car would gradually cool. I would drive it home after work and put it in the fridge. The next morning it was firm, tart, and just lovely. I know that sounds weird, but when you are a broke journalist who loves to cook Punjabi food, you get creative to save money :) I've had an IP for several years and have never made yogurt in it. I'm trying it this weekend!

    Thanks for all of your helpful tips. 😊 I used to make yogurt the 'old fashioned' way boiling milk in a large stock pot, waiting for it to cool down, then adding starter, wrapping the pot in towels and then put it in my microwave to incubate overnight. 🤯 I finally bought an Instant Pot last month and am excited to make yogurt again as it's much easier in the IP. 😋

    Was given an instant pot for Christmas so will definitely try this but plant-based as I have a family history of cancer and need to avoid all the estrogen in dairy. Thanks for posting

      Hi!! Did it work with plant based, milk? I personally prefer cashew milk yogurt for health reasons as well but it is pretty expensive. I'm here because my partner loves massive amounts of plain yogurt so wanted to do this for him with whole milk.

  • @Mochi-fc6uy

    Its simple...u don't need IP atall.
    Just boil milk in a sauce pot , then leave it on counter until its hot enough that u can stick ur finger in for 2 secs without feeling too hot.Then add 2 spns culture and mix thoroughly and transfer it to a bowl, place it in a warm place or a under stove oven overnight. The oven should be off. Next day morning place the yogurt bowl in refrigerator for couple hours and it gets nice and hard and ready to eat.
    Tips: If u want very thick yogurt just boil milk for some more time on low flame setting.

    My yogurt didn’t work because I didn’t research enough and added the live yogurt before boiling 🤦🏽‍♀️ I tried to cook it for 8 hours. Is it safe to keep the milk and cream and try again with more yogurt doing it properly this time?

    Can you use plant milk please?

    • @OlgasFlavorFactory
      @OlgasFlavorFactory  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not for this particular recipe. Plant-based milks usually do not thicken, so you will have to add a thickener. You’ll need to look for a specific recipe that uses a plant based milk.
      Milk turns into yogurt through a natural chemical reaction, fermentation, when yogurt cultures are added to milk. Plant based milk has a completely different composition than cow’s milk, so it will not work the same way.

    What do you do to add flavors?

    • @LaundryFaerie
      @LaundryFaerie ปีที่แล้ว

      You stir them into the finished yogurt. Fresh berries are good, but fruit preserves like strawberry jam and lemon curd taste even better. Or if you're diabetic like me and have to watch your sugar, you can add sugar-free syrup to your yogurt. Or you can get crazy and use things like Kool-Aid powder. It's your yogurt, so you can do what you want with it!

    Regular milk is certainly cheaper but you must use the boil function. The price of Fairlife has gone up so much.
