The Clara is not “entry level” the Nia is. I’ve tried most of Kobo’s current offering and the Clara is simply the best for me due to ergonomics. It hardly a step down in specs and features, just a different shape and size. The Libra would cause me wrist pain first because I tend to read laying on my side, second because while the design is tried and true, they completely messed up the cantilever point and too much weight is too far out from the grip point. If you have long fingers this should not be an issue
I tend to use my ereaders with the light off unless it’s dark, the light drains battery faster and without the light the screen looks exactly like paper so feels better to read on

I have a Kobo Clara 2e that I've just bought almost a year ago and I love it more than I thought I would. I just bought it to not have to lug books around and I ended up loving the experience of reading on an e-reader. And I've chosen this model because it was the cheapest with "confort light" technology, which I have always on even during the day. Also, something that no1 talks about: the clara 2e has a "Sketch Pad" section, under the More > Beta Highlights menu, I suppose the clara colour has one as well. It doesn't support pen, but you can write/doodle stuff with your fingers (I suppose a capacitive pen will work too). So there's that ;) Thanks for the amazing review.

Before someone says something, those same Bluetooth devices never skip on connections other than the Clara 2E.
When I first saw this, I was tempted as well like many diehard Kobo eReader fan. I prefer Kobo eReader over Kindle and had many different ones over the years, both Kobo and Kindle. Kobo Glo, Aura HD, Elipsa 2E, and for Kindle, DX, Oasis. But hands down, I always go back to Kobo. Some Kobos were made in Japan, and Tawiwan. Those, I rarely had issues and they feel just right. But, recently, I bought the Kobo Clara 2E and Elipsa 2E. Though they are both different class of eReader (Elipsa 2E writable), Clara 2E is made in Taiwan, whereas Elipsa 2E is made in China. Latter just don't feel right, and battery life is terrible with even very low backlight setting. Clara 2E goes over a month with 1-2 hours per day reading at 11-14% backlighting. Now with this new Clara Color. Unfortunately, it's made in China. Until they are made anywhere but China, I am not buying a Kobo, hate to say it like that. Edit: All of Kindle ereaders were and is made in China, which is probably why I no longer own any.
Tell me about the Audio Book capability... it says that it can play Kobo Audiobooks, by bluetooth I assume. I wonder if it also would be able to play downloaded ebooks from Libby or Hoopla or is it proprietary and just works on Kobo Audio books? ALSO... I have a Kobo eReader from last year and typically listen to audiobooks on our cell phone. Would purchasing a cheap android tablet to listen to audiobooks and have extra functions make sense instead of picking this color Clara for me?
Find the 7" ones to big. Have the paperwhite 11th gen, has a 6.8" screen, and its heavier, with the cover, but the Clara is far more comfy to hold I feel and far more portable
Tried this but didn’t get on with it..couldn’t move over my kindle books, found it impossible to see at 0% brightness 🔅 so had to turn it right up which felt no different to looking at my iPad. I want to get the new one but I like the case I have for the one I have and I’m wondering if it’ll fit the new one.
Not at all. It’s much much better as it’s an e-ink display not an LCD. There’s no glare nor the harmful blue lights found in mobile phones. It’s literally as if you’re reading from a print book
Hi, I am wondering what the web browser is like. Is it a good device to view Facebook, instagram etc? I like the idea of doom scrolling without the eyestrain. Thanks!
All ereaders including Amazon Kindles have very bad browsers. This is intended because ereaders are meant to be distraction-free, no one uses browsers on ereaders.
Why do all ereaders do that flicker thing when doing to different options etc? I want an ereader mainly this since color. But even kindle & it’s cheaper I just don’t like that flickering or seems little lag…maybe it’s just me & used to phones/iPads. I know their not to compare especially since i want this just for reading
4:45 You've got it backwards, the problem isn't wanting to have the light down to 0%(though it IS better on the battery), the problem is that outside the frontlight can't keep up with the ambient light even at 100%. "Just bump it up a bit, don't worry about it" is great advice for when you're reading before bed, but because of how weak the frontlights are you can barely notice a difference no matter how high it goes. That's typically fine, because it looks like white paper anyway. The Kobo Colour line however actually NEEDS that extra brightness due to being basically a dark grey, and in some environments appears to need the front light on at full blast just to almost mimic BW ereaders withou the light on at all.
You can choose how often you want your ereader to refresh the screen. If you set it to refresh with every page turn then it will do exactly that. You can choose from different options, you can even turn off screen refresh completely.
I'm still confused. I don't understand if is more dark than a kobo white and black. For example if i read with the sun light (at 0%), this kobo is more dark than an oldo kobo white and black with 300 dpi?
I saw one of these on display in an FNAC and simultaneously thought - oh that's pretty and also, what's the point? The issue is that most ebooks don't have illustrations except for their front cover, so colour or black and white is meaningless. And for things like PDFs - magazines or whatever, e-ink is fundamentally just no good because it's not responsive enough for someone to zoom in and out as they might wish.
Just pre-ordered mine today, yours is the only video I can find properly reviewing it, thank you so much 🙏

Can you read books on landscape mode?
Do you Recommended it if you just going to use it for audiobooks ?
Just for audiobooks it’s not worth it. There are way cheaper options
Easiest option is to listen to them on your phone.
Hi!!! Is it possible to eliminate the little frame in the cover of the book that says "sleeping mode"??
Yes, in the settings
Are there Kobo gift cards, like Amazon, so that you don't have to charge your purchases to a credit card? Thank you.
Yes
Why do all ereaders do that flicker thing when doing to different options etc? I want an ereader mainly this since color. But even kindle & it’s cheaper I just don’t like that flickering or seems little lag…maybe it’s just me & used to phones/iPads. I know their not to compare especially since i want this just for reading
can I access my kindle books from this device?
Are these big enough for picture books?
So... you're saying i can take a shower with a Kobo Clara? Sold!!! 😂
If I use apps like marvel unlimited is that a no go on this?
Is it better than Kobo glo hd?
great review, very relevant content, excellent analysis
Much appreciated!
When the night mode theme/ dark theme is enabled, it looks like you'll still be blasted with a white screen with every page turn. 🧐
You can choose how often you want your ereader to refresh the screen. If you set it to refresh with every page turn then it will do exactly that. You can choose from different options, you can even turn off screen refresh completely.
@@abc98114 Doesn't turning the page require a refresh by default?
This might be a little niche, but does the clara 2e case fit the clara colour?
No, the dimensions are not different. Unfortunately.
I'm still confused. I don't understand if is more dark than a kobo white and black. For example if i read with the sun light (at 0%), this kobo is more dark than an oldo kobo white and black with 300 dpi?
Yes it is darker. But I don't even notice anymore. I came from the Clara HD. It's a trade-off for colour I guess.
Does kobo allow us to download books from browser?
I saw one of these on display in an FNAC and simultaneously thought - oh that's pretty and also, what's the point? The issue is that most ebooks don't have illustrations except for their front cover, so colour or black and white is meaningless. And for things like PDFs - magazines or whatever, e-ink is fundamentally just no good because it's not responsive enough for someone to zoom in and out as they might wish.
hi thank you for the review can you do a comparison video of the clara colour and the libra colour
Is the back rubber material?
Is the back also a bit grippy like the Libra or just the same pattern as Libra but in plastic?
Same exact as the Libra
@@FaizAly nice I always find Clara HD’s plastic back to be too slippery.
