Everyone says wigfrid is bad and for noobs but wigfrid is very helpful to have around and play. You can basically live off spider dens and even eating monster meat´s damage is reduced, so she is actually very self sufficient. The dmg reduction can be used for tanking but it isnt mandatory and is more of a safeguard against failed kites or surprise attacks. Wigfrid, in my opinion, is very very good and a solid A tier character with the only downside not being too punishing but still noticeable.
Yes, it’s true that she simplifies combat completely, but that is a negative thing for noobs. They learn a form of combat, and even general play that is not good for any character besides wigfrid. Obviously everyone will play every character eventually, but it’s a good idea to start with other characters first so you learn fundamentals

Everyone should play the way they like. Do you play Wigfrid and tank all the damage? Okay, if you like that, why not. Do you rather kite and dodge the attacks? Sure, you can do that too. I'm combat focused player, but I just don't like Wolfgang and I'm not paying for Wanda, so Wigfrid is perfect (and the only) choice for me. And at the end of the day - I mostly like that she can make cheap helmets, and you don't have to farm pig skins so much.
Heres my top 9 tips from a Wanda main. 1. dont use the backstep for d-fly. D-fly will lose agro eventually. 2. Shadow armor is a must, old wanda does not suffer sanity penalties and recieves barely any damage with it on. 3. the alarming clock has slightly more range than any weapon, so dont be afraid to relearn kiting patterns. (For example when fighting klaus you can get around 3-4 hits in, back off a bit and repeat without having to bait an attack) 4. You can very safely land hits on shadow creatures because of the alarming clock's range (in most cases you can just hold f) 5. For boss fights you dont need that much healing. 2-4 ageless wacthes with shadow armor should be enough to keep you alive. 6. The lunar grotto is a safe and esay place to get materials for time pieces because theres a lot of thulecite walls 7. You can use backtrek watches inside of chests, this makes it easier to remember where a watch goes (scaled chest preferably) 8. Skip getting a lazy explorer and use the backstep watch during the fuel weaver fight 9. In a pinch the backstep watch can be used to dodge Charlie's attacks
You can stagger claus too, if you hit and walk back, wait the stag animation ends, and than hit again, he will never use a single move. Only in the last stage, that he will jump for you.
Hey, I've wanted to comment this on last video but end up forgetting. You can precraft a Think Tank when going to the sea for the first time, make the driftwood oar on the boat, then hammer the structure to get 2 boards back. Maybe use it for more Boat Patches or something else. A net loss of 2 boards only is worth imo.
Wigfrid is probably my favorite character to play, cause it just allows me to be the homicidal nomad I was built to be. Plus, I like her voice, and her vibe.

I'm not a REAL Wanda main, although I do know some tips and tricks. Oh and these are especially great for the glass cannon mode meaning being at old age at all times. First you can get her Alarming Clock on day 6 if you do: gathering resources on day 1, day 2 - finding the pig village and science (be aware though you can find pig houses in the pinetree forest in addition to chopping dead trees (- see day 4), day 3 - digging up graves (gather some red gems. I recommmend 2 additional for ageless watches) and catching rabbits, day 4 - chopping dead trees in hopes of a treeguard (this should be done on day four, because of the "tree old phase timer" and the treeguard gives you 6 living logs. 3 for shadow manipulator and the other for staves in the ruins), day 5 farming nightmare creatures and gathering food and some of the day 6 on last preparations for ruins or D-fly. Actions can be of course flipped, that is just how I do it in every Wanda world. Before the ruins I really recommend going in the archives and hammering walls for thulecite fragments and mining the statues for early thulecite. In the ruins you can basically not get hit by anything and still being in old age. You can ask "really?" - Unbelievably YES. The rook is often stunlocked when you hit it with such long range. For Bishop i use the backstep watch (with a time piece i got from archives) and a torch. You go near a bishop, let it aggro on you, backstep, approach and hit it with a torch and hit him until he dies. REMEMBER Wanda doesn't take fire damage from burning mobs when using her alarming clock, because of the range! Knight is just easy. No explanation needed. You still have to remember that the damaged knight has longer attack range than the regular one. Monkeys are one hit kills for easy food. Eat morsels too for sanity loss and thus nightmare creatures! BACKSTEP WATCH IS LIFE! As to dfly - with a backstep watch he is very easy to kite. 6 hits - teleport. Be aware you have to be in old age to hit hard and teleport smaller distances. For fuelweaver you can escape his cage without lazy explorer with the bstep watch and kill his minions and hands standing in a smaller radius - because of the range. Klaus you can cheese with the range of alarming clock by standing behind the loot stash. PLEASE spend at least 1 day gathering reeds for papyrus ergo night armour. That's all I know folks. Remember - Wanda teaches you a whole another gameplay with her high damage and the range of her weapon. Have fun playing Jake. Take care and stay healthy people :D.

Wigfrids bottleneck for face tanking is armor durability, which isn't much of an advantage for noobs as they won't be able to keep up with the resources if they try and rush in, especially like spider swarm at the beginning is goodbye helmet. For players who are happy to set up farms and take a long time in preparation for that she's a good go to. I personally don't like the prep or to always have to be fighting for the sanity. So coming up to 100 hours and trying a few characters I'm running with Maxwell, because for the most part I don't even have to fight to kill stuff.
Waiting on that intermediate and advanced guide like your recent beginner one, that one already helped me so much and I have 200 hours. I love ur content man keep going
Wanda tips -can kill rooks over the gaps of the void - cheese Klaus by standing opposite sack - with CC in 3rd phase if you move slightly closer than whip attack range it will trigger CCs melee attack but Wanda is still outside of it for free hits continuous hits with no lasers to dodge. - can do (old) wolf gang style of 1st and 2nd phases Bee Queen thanks to extra range with some speed boost. Saves on a lot of armor in those phases. - when waking dfly from sleepwith 3 hits, be close to it otherwise it doesn't trigger it's attack before backsteping away. - backstep watch remembers a lot of previous locations, so can run between a few points first to have more predictable backstep patterns. (Dfly, and FW)
Wanda main here. You will pretty much need to be in the backpack gang to use all her watches, however you will usually want to go insane as she can every easily kill shadow creatures due to just needing to hold F with alarming clock, and then you can refill it using said nightmare fuel. You can use the backstep to dodge anything, and you will either A: Want to rush ruins for thulecite pieces to get an alarming clock or B: Use 3 of your starting 4 clock pieces to make an alarming clock. for the beginning of the game, using red gems for life clocks is also good until you need to deconstruct them. I recommend (once you have everything made) staying middle aged(about 35), as it’s too much a hassle to damage yourself when you’re at max hp to get the damage up. You’ll want 2 or 3 life watches at least for bosses. If you get bad red gem luck on graves, you’ll definitely want to rush ruins

Little thing about healing with ageless watch. If you are running out of hunger, freezing or overheating, you can't heal, so you need to immediately solve that problem

I was turned away from wigfrid when I saw that she only needed meat. But on my 3rd world with my bf he told me to try someone other than wendy and... hoo boy wigfrid is easy mode (sort of) with wigfrid, because of her lifesteal and reduced damage I dont have to be afraid of engaging in fights on my own. I no longer have to be terrified of getting hit (bc trust me, I have crappy reflexes and I WILL get hit), which means that a mistake (if im ever kiting) will not be as costly as if I used anyone else. Sanity issues? negligible. Kill a couple shadow guys and you're back to normal. Raining? Well, that's not great but again, it mostly causes just sanity drain so just kill a few things and you'd be fine I was absolutely terrified of deerclops but then I facetanked him just fine. Holy crap she's great lmao
this comment's old but i'm absolutely with you here. i used to only play willow since i was afraid of the dark (+ fighting) and most of the time insane so bernie was very useful. ever since i started playing wigfrid, i've never stopped. 5+ years in and 220+ hours in game, she's still the only one i play with and i will not swap her for anyone else. a lot of people say that wigfrid mains are noobs who never learnt how to kite and solely tank their way through shit, which, i mean, is absolutely true in my case since i'm not a good gamer and i've grown up only watching other people play. coupled with my generally terrible memory, i have a hard time remembering kiting patterns that aren't just nightmare monsters/terrorbeaks and treeguards. wigfrids survivability and easy access to weapons + armour make my gameplay much easier and make it so much happier for me to spend time in a game that otherwise would probably deter me from continuing. call me a coward or a loser all you want but i generally have a hard time learning a lot of new and specific mechanics, hell, i even need a constant reminder on what to do for the fuelweaver fight because i'm deadass just that bad. i've seen a lot of my friends stop playing dst after the first 10+ hours because they weren't happy with using their characters, thought they were too hard to use, that the game is way too hard to play even. i'm happy that i kept with playing something that i probably will never be good at, even if i'm using the "cheat" character that enables people to never learn a crucial fundamental. also you probably know this by now since it's been a year but, you can use the deerclop's eyeball to create the eyebrella, which pretty much negates all wetness from the rain and makes spring basically autumn 2.0 (thus removing the sanity drain). if you're playing with other people however, you can fight klaus and hope that there's another eyeball in one of his packages. (i usually play duo with a friend so we tend to boss rush dfly + klaus, sometimes bee queen in the early game for the loot)
Regarding the bit at the end, I feel like Wig's combat and utility are a bit off. Not being Wolfgang or Wanda isn't equivalent to just above average in combat, that's a bit unfair especially when she excels at sanity management which Wolfgang suffers at. Meanwhile she has no resource bonuses whatsoever and the lack of incentive for veg would mean her utility is probably a bit lower. Otherwise I found it to be a great video showcasing the best of single-player Wigfrid!
Some math on thulecite crowns vs suits: 1 thulecite is worth 210 armour durability 1 crown has 840 dura for 4 pieces and 4 nightmare fuel 1 suit has 1260 dura for 6 pieces and 4 nm fuel meaning suits are just as thulecite efficient as crowns, while also being more nm fuel efficient
I wish I could use the pan flute that fast on Xbox it takes forever to use and I’m getting beat up in the process of trying to pan flute. You made this fight look a lot easier😂. Of course with practice I’ll get better but sheesh I didn’t think I would need to over prepare too much. Turns out I should of🤷🏽♂️

I was turned away from wigfrid when I saw that she only needed meat. But on my 3rd world with my bf he told me to try someone other than wendy and... hoo boy wigfrid is easy mode (sort of)
with wigfrid, because of her lifesteal and reduced damage I dont have to be afraid of engaging in fights on my own. I no longer have to be terrified of getting hit (bc trust me, I have crappy reflexes and I WILL get hit), which means that a mistake (if im ever kiting) will not be as costly as if I used anyone else.
Sanity issues? negligible. Kill a couple shadow guys and you're back to normal.
Raining? Well, that's not great but again, it mostly causes just sanity drain so just kill a few things and you'd be fine

this comment's old but i'm absolutely with you here. i used to only play willow since i was afraid of the dark (+ fighting) and most of the time insane so bernie was very useful.
ever since i started playing wigfrid, i've never stopped. 5+ years in and 220+ hours in game, she's still the only one i play with and i will not swap her for anyone else.
a lot of people say that wigfrid mains are noobs who never learnt how to kite and solely tank their way through shit, which, i mean, is absolutely true in my case since i'm not a good gamer and i've grown up only watching other people play. coupled with my generally terrible memory, i have a hard time remembering kiting patterns that aren't just nightmare monsters/terrorbeaks and treeguards.
wigfrids survivability and easy access to weapons + armour make my gameplay much easier and make it so much happier for me to spend time in a game that otherwise would probably deter me from continuing. call me a coward or a loser all you want but i generally have a hard time learning a lot of new and specific mechanics, hell, i even need a constant reminder on what to do for the fuelweaver fight because i'm deadass just that bad.
i've seen a lot of my friends stop playing dst after the first 10+ hours because they weren't happy with using their characters, thought they were too hard to use, that the game is way too hard to play even. i'm happy that i kept with playing something that i probably will never be good at, even if i'm using the "cheat" character that enables people to never learn a crucial fundamental.
also you probably know this by now since it's been a year but, you can use the deerclop's eyeball to create the eyebrella, which pretty much negates all wetness from the rain and makes spring basically autumn 2.0 (thus removing the sanity drain). if you're playing with other people however, you can fight klaus and hope that there's another eyeball in one of his packages. (i usually play duo with a friend so we tend to boss rush dfly + klaus, sometimes bee queen in the early game for the loot)
Yo i love jelly leafy salad its a great sanity restorer, and is really easy to automate
Regarding the bit at the end, I feel like Wig's combat and utility are a bit off.
Not being Wolfgang or Wanda isn't equivalent to just above average in combat, that's a bit unfair especially when she excels at sanity management which Wolfgang suffers at.
Meanwhile she has no resource bonuses whatsoever and the lack of incentive for veg would mean her utility is probably a bit lower.
Otherwise I found it to be a great video showcasing the best of single-player Wigfrid!
Some math on thulecite crowns vs suits:
1 thulecite is worth 210 armour durability
1 crown has 840 dura for 4 pieces and 4 nightmare fuel
1 suit has 1260 dura for 6 pieces and 4 nm fuel
meaning suits are just as thulecite efficient as crowns, while also being more nm fuel efficient
