Bob, thanks for your attention to detail and explanations. We get same van as you in 4 weeks and will be doing many of the same upgrades/ adaptations so I'll be following along on your build. There will be even more benefit once you do the doors and get your insulation in. Happy trails (roads!) LOL
Thank you for the very scientific approach to this process. I really appreciate the detail you went to and can only imagine what a difference in decibel reduction once the other panels have been covered too.
Hi Bob I am currently working on my Ford Transit after waiting for 11 months. I look forward to your videos. Your insight is very helpful. I have almost the same van you do.
I'm adding the Noico Red in places where space is limited like inside the doors and on the floor before I put down my plywood. I'm also going to use it under the headliner.
Hello from Puerto Rico, here in the island we can’t find Kaiflex , that’s the best one use in Europe, will try to find the one that you use ... thanks Bob for the information
Yeah, I waited nine months. Hopefully, you won't have to wait as long. The last Winter storm slowed things down a bit, but I haven't heard of any long term parts shortages.
Lots of insulation is going to cut down on the outside noise, but you have windows and the cab area that will be difficult to muffle sound coming through. I guess if you want to build a wall between the cab and the sleeping area, that might help. I don't want my rearview blocked though, since my van is my daily driver.
Your videos are great! I just got the van I ordered last March and found your channel. You could easily become the Moses of Transit Van info with your background. I would like to ask a few questions but I want to honor your topics. Do you have a web site or avenue for general questions? Are you willing to entertain questions off topic of any present video offering?
@@bobstransitvan3053 thank you! In general I’m a pretty handy fellow. Of course like lost the SECOND time I do something the results are often obvious! I made several mistakes when ordering my van. (2021 350 HD AWD ext tall XLT passenger version) 1. I didn’t realize front fender liners were an option! (No biggie but..) I didn’t order the overhead storage shelf (my question) and I didn’t understand fully what the wiring upfitter package really was! ( I had in my mind the auxiliary set of switches down on the console beside my factory trailer brake controller and an obvious open fuse block for the “aux”. Instead of a giant zip-lok with three wiring harness pigtails- maybe an eventual second question). My old E-350 had that shelf and in your initial videos I saw yours and it hit me! It had been so long between ordering and delivery that I had a hard time remembering. Just what I ordered (comes with being 59!) I am told I can order the shelf but the dealer is trying to figure out what all needs to be changed to install it! Do you know if the front section of the headliner and the rear ac controller/map light fixture both would need to be changed? Just above the door on each side is an oval plastic plug hiding an anchor point (I’m thinking that has something to do with the shelf assembly). There are two smaller round ones near the base of the visor mounting points just above the windshield. Any idea if these too hide something associated with the shelf? I have considered just ordering the shelf and hardware package and then make it work even if I had to modify it cleanly at the AC controller area.. I’m not excited about spending the money on a new front headliner also! If what I’m seeing with the plug are indeed anchor points I could fabricate my own tube style aluminum shelf. Again thank you and your work on. Noise reduction was outstandingly thorough!!
@@marklamons6977 I'll have to take a look at the headliner install area, but I know that the headliner is definitely different for the headliner shelf units. Yours has two rectangular plates (marked "Airbag", I think) that cover the screw on each side. I'll have to look and see if the screw locations for the headliner shelf are on every unit or not. I would think they would be. I'll have to look and see if the map light pod is different also. The four holes up front are for mounting the headliner and shouldn't effect the shelf. There's a channel called "The Queen and Bob" and they made their own shelf because they didn't order the factory one. They talk about it in their video on "Sub-Floor Install" at about 14:15. They totally removed the factor headliner it looks like. They don't really show how they mounted their shelf. You might ask them how they did theirs. I'll do some more research and add to this.
I bought the 50 mil Kilmat in the box of 50 square feet. It's on sale on Amazon right now for 24% off ($61.99). You probably have to be a Prime member.
🤘Thanks for the db comparison it's the first time I've seen that done. Did you have the speakers added by the factory or are they included in all the transits?
You can get 4, 6, or 8 speakers from the factory. The 4 are the tweeter and woofer on each side up front. 6 adds the speakers in the rear doors and 8 adds speakers in the side walls. You can't get 8 speakers on a cargo van; it's standard on the passenger vans. 6 speakers are an option on cargo vans.
l haven't thot of Judas Priest in decades...and is that a Kiss tee? strange combo vintage man but to each his own. thanks for this, I'm quite curious about sound protection. I've watched many tour vids and (i wear headphones) the sound quality differences are obvious. I want to be full-time and, as a solo female, I dither between my love of quiet and being aware of my surroundings for safety purposes. rock on my friend, ☮️

I used Noico and was quite pleased on the difference on the roof panels in my old Maxima alone!
We added Kilmat and Noico Red on top. I think the foam addition makes a big difference compared to the Kilmat alone.

This was very informative. I was wondering if Kilmat really worked.
Thanks for your video's Bob - I've ordered a '22 in a similar build as you - I'm still waiting 😥

Good video, thanks.
Great info on the kilmat test, thanks!I’d also be curious about your thoughts on ambient noise when parked (like campsite noise)

Ask me anything. If you have enough questions, I might just make a whole video out of it. Thanks.

@@bobstransitvan3053 outstanding!! Thank you!!!
Future info request- if you have any details on how the floor is constructed on my 2019 350xlt passenger wagon it would be greatly appreciated
I'll have to do a little research on that. I didn't pay much attention to the floor since I was getting a bare bones cargo van.
Bob, you are very meticulous in your work. I am contemplating a transit build. What mil is your kilmat? I look forward to viewing your videos. Thanks.
