  • tomhess.net/Total-Tension-Con... If your guitar speed feels stuck or limited, and it feels that you just can’t get to the next level, the cause may be excessive tension. In this guitar speed lesson video, you learn what to do so that you play with less tension and your easily guitar speed increases again.
Here’s what we’ll cover in this guitar speed lesson on tension […]
First, we’ll explore WHY you can’t play faster and have been stuck on the same guitar speed for a while now. Playing with excessive tension is very likely one of causes.
Fact is, there are many possible reasons why you’re speed on guitar has been limited, but there’s one (tension) that will always hold you back no matter what you do until and unless you eliminate unnecessary and excessive tension as you play.
Second, we’ll explore if it’s really worth the time and effort to reduce and eliminate tension. (Hint: it is!)
Third, you’ll learn about different types of guitar playing tension and why you have them.
Fourth, I’ll teach you why (and how) excessive guitar playing tension kills guitar speed.
Fifth, you’ll discover one common mistake that most guitar players make which almost ensures that tension will automatically increase... and what you can to prevent this from the start.
Sixth, I’ll show you a very common place on your body where tension is almost sure to get out of control and what to do to eliminate (or at least reduce) it.
Seventh, I’ll invite you a free (no strings attached) 90-minute masterclass on eliminating ALL excessive tension from your body once and for all so that your guitar speed is never again limited by tension.
I teach this to my own online students, and it’s made a tremendous difference in their guitar playing. Now it’s your turn.

One of the most important aspects to playing that is not talked about enough - thanks Tom! Also, one last issue that tension causes is injury. As soon as I learned to relax, my wrist and finger pain went away

This is really priceless advice he's giving that I had to learn the hard way over the years. Thanks so much Tom; I've been following you for about 12 years and I've learned a lot. Cheers!

I have a bad habit of pushing my right heal up and sort of stand on my toes to raise my thigh …to hold my guitar. Locked. Great video. I’m a total beginner at nearly 60.

Thank you Tom. I am watching the video right now. It is really helpful. I am a 40 year plus player and have always suffered from being tense. I am very muscular, especially in my arms and it has always hindered me. Especially in my rhythm playing. I really appreciate what you did here.

I feel a large part of my issue is my pick digging in too hard into the strings... I do not know how to overcome this issue.

Tom, I've always had a problem ascending with speed when I get to the B and E strings, things just fall apart there... but the heavier stings I can fly though no problem. Any tips on how to fix this? I'm an alternate picker.

It's impossible to say what the problem might be without seeing you play. That said, the first general tip I'd suggest is to switch to directional picking from alternate picking. See this video: tomhess.net/Make-Your-Guitar-Picking-Speed-Faster

It’s probably the g going to the b string that’s giving you issues? I’d maybe isolate the strings that are giving you issues, write a riff or some kind of exercise using that and make it sound cool, then you’ll have incentive to improve it
