Great video Donn, the sawmill is doing a great job for you and the family. Hope the balancing goes good so you can get er done faster ;-) Always enjoy your videos . Hope you get enough done to have heat in the shop this winter. Thanks for sharing.
Well done. Watched the whole project and can say it’s beefy. One thing I’d do with the dust exhaust is angle it down at 45 degrees and baffle it so it won’t get caught in the shroud.
Now when the wheels are balanced I can go full throttle and with a fresh blade it rips through the wood in no time. Also the sprocket on the new wheel is a bit smaller which upped the revs and thus the blade speed by a quarter. So all good!
Best homemade mill on youtube awesome job, I think you still need to paint it to protect your hard work. Do you have a set of plans for this machine i would like to copy it thanks Tom USA.
sbirdranch If you watch the older video as he made the sawmill the one wheel was warped and he took it to a tire shop to have it straightened and balanced. In the end he still wasn’t happy with it and felt he could get better blade tension with the alloy wheels.
I noticed you roll the logs away from the stationary guide posts so the sawdust debris dose not make for uneven cuts. A good level clean saw bed is always a plus. I don't remember if you have the motor and drive belts covered so they stay out of the rain and sun, but if they are they will last longer maybe. Good luck, I hope you can close in the shop while it is still kinda warm outside yet. Are you going to build a Rocket type heater for the shop?
Donn i have very nice old motor oil air heater if you want ideas. My worn out garage holds 25C if running. Space about 50cm2. 1l/h consumption. Let me know if you want pics.
I'm using a belt on the mill that originates back to the times when my grandfather still drove his USSR T-100 tracked dozer. It must have been at least a couple of decades ago and this belt is still kicking. Eventually the mill be under the roof without direct sunlight so I will not bother with a belt cover. :D I'm just that lazy. I'm gonna go with a Bullerjan type of wood stove and add the sawdust stove in the mix there to utilize the sawdust coming from the sawmill.
Awesome machine!! Just gets better and better. It's hard to keep up with you, I just got done building my hydraulic press. I need a lathe now, LOL. So, you cutting by the road, anybody stop to ask if you could cut some wood for them?
I've received requests over the Internet mainly. The sawmill is hard to see from the road even though it's easy to see the road from where the sawmill stands. :)
I don't know the brand unfortunately. I just took a round bar from the storage rack and started turning it in the lathe. Nevertheless - it holds up really good at the moment.
@@DonnDIY Is there fast wear on the rollers? In your opinion, how long will the tension rollers last?Should I make rollers from hardened alloyed steel?
There's pretty much no difference in performance - just the blade is more stable in the unsupported area just before rolling under the first guide roller. In the older videos you could see how the camera picked up the amplitude of the blade. Now it's just a straight line. Oh yeah - the blade can be pulled tighter, that is the main difference. ;)
Is the electric motor for when you can use electricity? I'm hooked on your videos. This is two nights in a row I've been watching. I'm gathering parts to try building a saw of my own.

Hei donn. Tundub korralik.
Pretty Good Donny!
The tires and rims work well in this configuration, the old rims/tires had a bounce to them which became quite obvious in the slow-motion shots.

These rims are really straight, no throw in'em whatsoever. Just the mass is uneven, thus the need for balancing.

What brand of steel are the rollers made for stretching the saw blade? From the brand of steel that rollers to move the sawmill?
Дмитрий Головин
He made all those parts on his lathe from steel.

It is mild steel ‘ or low carbon steel ‘ and they will last for a long time’ in other words they are not heat treated ‘ home made
How long can you cut with your sawmill? Sorry for my english I am french!
Right now up to 5,5 m in length. In the future with a trailer extension up to 12 m hopefully.
