I just bought the Hind, and it is not as high tech as an Apache or the Black Shark, but I find tank hunting with the Shturm and the quick gun and rocket runs extremely entertaining. The hind is hard to fly at first, especially vertical take off and landing, but during combat maneuvers it is stable, a bit like a strike aircraft, I can shift targets during attack runs easily, sometimes I can take out 3-4 targets in one run. Great machine, great module
Maybe I missed your point but as a ex Apache tech, the paint on attack helicopters in general is meant to be flat/non reflective so as to not give your position away etc...
What I like and I have seen examples in other modules, id the little flexing and bouncing of the aircraft components. For instance the pitot probe bounces independent of the aircraft as the rotor spins. the same things can be seen when aircraft are catapulted off of deck you can see the wing tips bounce separately from the aircraft's over all motion.
Much appreciated. Bought the Mi-24P Hind but haven't flown it yet. Still going through UH-1H campaign which is pretty long, but loving it. Had a quick fly with the DCS: SA342 Gazelle and really look forward to that! I'll probably hit the Mi-24P after the Gazelle though I'll be pretty tempted to learn to go directly to the AH-64D before the Hind. Either way, this vid will be a great guide! Thanks.
Right Control and Enter on the keyboard to turn the "show controls indicator" on and off. 22:28 Mi-24P Hind is an awesome module, great review, I would also agree interior is fantastic. It looks really good at night. Liked the video!
By far my favorite helicopter in DCS & one of my favorite all around modules in DCS. Gets better & better with each patch! Now I can’t wait for the Apache! I disagree with you on the way it pops in game!! I absolutely love it!! One more thing is your getting a lot of Helicopter for the money! I mean if you buy it on sale it’s only $50 & that’s super cheap for all the work that’s been going into this & still being done! Definitely worth the price!!!
I think you've called it right Cap numbers wise. I love it, its so beefy and chunky and....and well soviet, which is a good thing in DCS as soviet = quirky and fun. The cockpit in VR is so immersive, and if I fly it long enough my brain accepts it's visual and aural surroundings as real, and then im away with the fairies. Good work on an excellent and honest review Cap and RC, and a standing ovation for the devs at ED 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
The angry sound you are referring to at 28:23 is the sound that the rotors make when they load up with lift. You will hear it in hard turns and when you do a maximum power take off in a real helicopter.
I would love to see DCS come out with a WWII bomber. For single player, the bomber could have an AI copilot and navigator and AI at each of the gunner positions and for multi-player, you could fill as many positions as you choose with real players,
I think the Huey’s multicrew would work. There are 4 seats, and if there’s only 2 human players, the other 2 are filled by AI. Then with a B-17 or whatever, if there were to be 2 players using it, there would be the pilot and a bombardier or navigator. When the 2nd player is the navigator, an AI Bombadier could give aiming cues for the pilot. If the 2nd player is the bombadier, the AI could be the navigator. So all seats not filled by a player would be AI. So we could have like 5 buddies as the pilots, bombardier, navigator, and rear gunner, then AI would fill all other guns. It would work!
@@rhysgoodman7628 DCS already has a few WW2 fighter-bombers, but they only carry a few bombs at most. Having a squadron of B-17’s, B-29’s, or Lancaster’s in multiple player missions would really cool. DCS could have a multi-crew bomber that could be flown by a single player with AI filling all of the other positions on the bomber or the bomber could have every position manned by real players or there could be a mix of real players and AI manning each position in bomber. For single player, DCS could make it so the player could switch between positions in the bomber at anytime during the mission, if they choose to. AI would fill the position the player vacates. A player could fly the plane, then switch over to the navigator position for a while, and if some enemy fighters show up, the player could switch between the gunner positions, and when the bomber arrives near the target, the player could switch to the bombardier position for the bombing run, and then switch back to pilot position for the flight home. For multi-player missions, DCS Squadrons could have the bombers flown with real players at every position or a mix of real players and AI, if a group doesn’t have enough players to man every position on every bomber. Adding player-flown multi-crew WW2 bombers to multiplayer missions would really add an entire new dimension to large multi-player missions. It would also fun for the opposing team to have some players who could pop in temporarily to manually operating anti-aircraft guns shooting at squadrons of bombers flying over head.

@@ayushthosar6005 Lot's of ways to enjoy the sim. I really like playing with the sandbox of stuff, putting on some tunes and blowing shit up. But absolutely the realism - the high detail and love put into the aircraft - That is why we're all here.
I must say, the addition of more voice lines to Petrovich made this module infinitely better. Having to look away from my sight and instruments to see little floating text boxes really ruined the experience. As with most helicopters, the secret to getting lots of kills with the hind is to stay as far away as possible from your enemy. Do not rush in to fire rockets like you are a fighter jet. Also be generous with dropping flares. You will run out of missiles before you run out of flares if you are doing things right.
Yeah, I think the same, it would be an interesting option and it would make the gunner seat more appealing. On the other hand the rotating turret has "only" 12,7 mm, it can be good against infantry and unarmored targets, but it is just a pea shooter compared to the twin 30mm.
If I recall the Hind's wings produce up to 23% of total lift at speed. And the aircraft can only hover for a total of 16 minutes before the engines must be inspected for damage due to the weight of the aircraft.
That is incorrect and a common misconception. Hind can hover indefinitely until it runs out of gas. As long a you load and the weather and air density allows for it. Depends a bit on your load out. If your at high elevation at over 30 degrees with full weapons and fuel you might have to dip into takeoff power which has the limited time frame. However standard loadout you can hover in indefinite cruise settings just fine. This is also the case with most helicopters the Apache is the same way if it's fully loaded.
Question as someone wanting to get into dcs helicopters, I've already decided to get the Gazelle as a light recon/hunter killer type chopper, what would you the community recommend for doing rocket strafing runs in a more dedicated air support role?
Normally a helicopter starts to shake more when u come from a descent into a stabilized descend. So like you give a lot of descent rate with speed and then you slow her down and apply power so it’s well above VRS it starts to shake well. Yeah I am a real Heli pilot 🙈 sorry
question do you have a collective pitch stick? If not whats the best way to control a chopper? At the mo i have joystick for cyclic but no pedals but can teist stick. And throttles of course.
I just fly helicopters mainly and i can do the most delicate stuff just with a Saitek x52. The twist has a fair amount of travel. The throttle is my collective. And i have a Trackhat setup, for head tracking.
Akso, are we gonna have a helicopter race/drag race/dogfight soon or wait for ah64d?
