- Here I am going to discuss who I felt had the better Upgrade between Anime Judai/Jaden and his Neos cards or Manga Judai/Jaden and his Masked Heroes.

If we're talking real life, then masked heroes easily; no other heroes compare. But if we're talking about the anime/manga, then Neos. As ridiculous as the story is of how he got them, he never lost after getting them. Manga jaden was catching Ls with masked heroes to Aster and Atticus😭

I mean if you want to judge the cards as they were in the original series, the Masked HERO cards weren't even good. If they were printed one for one with the manga effects (or lack thereof) they would be worse than the original five.

@@maltheopia Oh absolutely lol his deck is legit all bricks, the writing just allowed him to have the specific spells for each hero. Chazz was the same with all the mesh in there. And zane literally opened every duel with Poly, 3 cyber dragons, defusion and power bond lmao lots of plot convenience

Actually all of those duel before the game was created on earth, Kaiba was actually very late to join the party
The Neo-Spacians would have been more of an "upgrade" if they all came with a self-summon effect that could build off of original HEROes, i.e. just Special from hand with a Normal/different Attribute out; and if the Neos Fusions _could_ be traditionally Fusion Summoned, and just had the short-lived Contact gimmick as an option.
That's a clever way! Swapping out Avian for Hummingbird, Burstinatrix for Scarab, etc. I like this!
Konami needs to hire the people who actually play and understand the game and its mechanics.
They honestly need to do that and they're kinda starting to give Elemental HEROES and Neo-Spacians some form of synergy thanks to Power of the Elements its not much, but it's a start @nathanvertil7355
That first part where you talking about the self summon effect is what I'm really hoping they'll do if they ever revamp them. Just let them self summon when you have a HERO on the field. Also, give them a clasue that treats them as Elemental HEROs so they synergize with old HERO support. They should also revamp the Contact Fusions to work like the Yubel Fusion and Vicious Astroud or just make them Links. And if they ever want to give "Omni" HEROs another try, maybe by making Level 10 versions or doing tri-attribute fusions, have the Neo Spacians be considered as HEROs would make that easier
Neo Spacians would need a revamp where they can be special summon if Elemental Hero Neos is on the field. That would help make it easier to contact fuse and their fusions also need a revamp if they're sent back to the Ex Deck, they can special summon both Neos & the monster it contact fused. Or just Neos, but add another Neo Spacian with a different name. So you can contact fuse another one the next turn if Neos survives.
You know what we should've had? Elemental Heroes+Neo-Spacians fusion monsters, just imagine these combos;

Neo-Elemental Lady Firefly (Burstinatrix+Flare Scarab)
Neo-Elemental Graceful Eaglewing (Wingman+Air Hummingbird)
Neo-Elemental Hydro Fin (Bubbleman+Aqua Dolphin)
Neo-Elemental Underhog (Clayman+Grand Mole)
Neo-Elemental Spark Cat (Sparkman+Dark Panther)
Neo-Elemental Wysp Kuriboh (Winged Kuriboh+Glowmoss)
This would have also had the benefit of making Jaden's hybrid Hero/Neo-Spacian deck actually make sense. In the anime, he's basically just splashing this disparate archetype into his pre-existing deck and it makes no sense for the build lol. Neos is supposed to be the bridge I guess? But Neos can't even interact with the other Elemental Heroes, so it's just like wtf?
I honestly lean more toward the Neo-Spacians. While most of their story is goofy, the fact that they were made by Jaden/Judai I feel gives them a more personal feeling. It also ties into the sub-plot with Aster/Edo, where Jaden/Judai argues with him over how duels should be fun, and he beats Aster/Edo using a deck that literally came about as a result of Jaden/Judai's love for dueling. Don't get me wrong, the Masked HEROs are cool and all, and them being used as him breaking away from his mentor is a neat idea, I wasn't too fond of them just appearing.
Also it's a bit off the mark to say that Judai shouldn't use the original HERO monsters, the reason he uses them is just because he thinks they're cool and while he gets his Neo-Spacians as cards with a more personal connection it's kinda against the themes of the series to say that the mentality of "I like the deck, I'm going to use the deck" is in some way wrong. The Neo-Spacians not replacing his old HERO monsters but supplementing them, while from a strict gameplay perspective isn't optimal, from the storytelling perspective it does more thematically.
In storytelling there's the concept of "thesis, antithesis and synthesis." Depending on the themes of your story you might want to choose to repudiate the antithesis and assert "no, the thesis was right" or you might want to do the opposite and say the antithesis is right, but GENERALLY the one with the most resonance is to say that neither the thesis or antithesis are entirely correct and so you create the new synthesis that takes positives from both and blends them. If the E-HERO cards are the synthesis, then the Neo-Spacians are the archetype that reaches synthesis while the Masked HERO pivot just goes to the antithesis.

Konami won't do it. They don't want HERO to have an Omni negate and if they do then contrast Hero chaos will definitely get a retrain

To talk real life dueling, cross combining both Neos and Masked Heroes makes the best upgrade especially with Shining Neos Wingman, Prisma, Stratos, Elemental Hero sunrise and Neos fusion as bridges. Mask change 2 can also turn neo spacians into masked heroes creating more powerful combos. Fusion duplication lets you fusion summon on your opponent's turn by banishing a fusion spell from your graveyard and duplicating it's effect, meaning you can banish any normal spell card fusion spell to apply it's effect whenever you feel like. In the anime and manga if fusion duplication exisited every fusion deck would have run it as it would have been a staple card in their worlds.
So in the manga the evolution of Judai deck was basically a Kamen Rider archetype,cool!.
Especially the acid one because he looks like kamen rider Hibiki!.
Still can't figure out why Konami released the extra deck masked heroes but not the main deck ones. Not even the biggest fan of heroes but I'd like to see the deck in a more complete form

Probably because "C • HERO Chaos" might be easy to come out either "Fusion", "Miracle Fusion" or "Favorite Contact".
But my choice would have to be summoning him by using regular "Fusion" since I normally run two of them to begin with.
I actually glad they didn't because how konami adapted cards back then was questionable imagine how bad fossils would be if they came out when they were shown. If they make masked heroes now they might be crazy

I kinda like an idea where Jaden starts off with the super specific fusion material monsters like Flame Wingman then upgrading into the Omni Heroes since they had better effects
This was a nice learning experience as GX was actually a fav anime to watch growing up, especially as never got a chance to read the yugioh manga at all
If I had to be honest. I Feel that Had Neos came out with “E-HERO Brave Neos” and “Neos Knight” at the Beginning of his First Appearance! He would’ve been Received So Much Better!
While the Neo Specian Creatures did add some unique additions and Advantages. They Sucked, they weren’t all that Useful in a Conjoined Deck, and mostly ended up in others! So it’s ultimately Better to Just play Neos without them and to focus on making fusions that Made the Ultraman-like (or Kamen Rider) Forms reflect the Previous Fusions, But So Much Stronger!

An ideal way to handle things would've been to combine both stories. Both versions stem from a similar starting point in Judai wanting a new deck to break away from another HERO user. The Neo-Spacians have a better connection in being Judai's own original designs, while the Masked Heroes were obtained more organically. I don't particularly think one is better or worse than the other, just that combining their stories would've been the perfect way to go about it.
Neos is a better upgrade to me thematically while the masked HEROs are definitely better realistically.
I think the Neo Spacian and Elemental Hero Neos cards was a precursor to get the anime watchers hyped up for Syncho, Xyz, and Link.
The neo-spacians look like versions of carman sandiago villains from the netflix cartoon. You got the mole that goes under ground, you got the glowing moss that is like a mime, the humming bird that is like the rock climber, the dark cat one is like that cat lady, the flaming bug I guess is blue beetle, but that is besides the point. Also the donphan is like aquaman no one cares. Also neos is over there like I am not even sure what those guys are? Are they suits that I wear?
Well Neos is based on Ultraman from Japan which is kinda funny since Neos and the Masked Heroes are based on two Japanese superhero series as Masked are based on Kamen Riders
I never really cared for E-HEROes, but they did help my Red-Eyes in Duel Links a few times, so they did grow on me a bit. If I’d have to pick a favourite, it would be E-HERO Blazeman. But neospacians might as well not exist as far as I’m concerned. The mole thing was always just annoying.

Neos feel a lot more iconic, but IRL-wise, Masked HERO is definitely crazy to use.
I used to activate Form Change a lot in several duels. It's crazy effective if you're going for crazy damage to the opponent's LP
When I got back into yugioh, the Masked Hero structure deck was the first thing I grabbed. I already loved GX and Power Rangers, so a sentai themed deck was too much to pass up.
Imagine we get new support and having synergy with neos and masked heroes

As a kid I lived the Neos cards. In college, I managed to collect all of them and achieved a childhood dream. Now that I played with them, yeah they suck in actual gameplay. They take up space and while they have good abilities, they just weren't viable for the newer mechanics. Trust me I know. Contact fusion was cool but weak sauce.
I heard of Masked Heroes due to the Hero Strike Structure Deck I got after needing a new deck. And I LOVED THEM!! I know Heroes have been hogging the spotlight but the Masked Heroes are fantastic. Then I caught up to the manga and discovered their origins. Still waiting for the main deck Masked Heroes to make an appearance. Also their summoning method is infinitely better than contact fusion.
If you ask me, the Masked Heroes should've been the deck upgrade in the anime as they were in the manga. Keep the same story, Judai designed them as a kid and this was his take on the archetype he plays. Though the Neos Spacians will always have a place in my heart.

Same here! Personally, I don’t mind if Jaden Used Either of them since Neos was an Elemental HERO of the Cosmos that could contend with Light and Darkness Entities in the Anime.

The only cards I can see play is "E • HERO Neos", two of the "M • HERO" monsters like "Dark Law" with "Blast", and finally "E • HERO Shining Neos Wingman".
Those are one of the four best "HERO" Fusion monsters that Jaden would ever use.

I just realized how is Jaden allowed to use the Neo Spacians. To everyone else wouldn't they be fake cards. Like Kaiba shot them into space and presumably were never released to the public. Also if Kaiba can make card why can't he just make op cards only for himself.
For anyone saying neo Spacians isnt an upgrade y'all haven't played the new support...I only run 3 of 6 (Dolphin,mole, panther) and the new Spells make everything so consistent...Im smashing meta on Master duel...I cut my masked hero plays and added a new special summoner "Cross keeper" bros a god send...Ive beat Snake eyes, sowrdsouls, crows, destiny heroes, mathmech ets....Get your game on

I actually agree with the neos that fitted the anime plot. But I think they also could have still done it with manga upgrade. After losing to Aster and falling into a slump, Jaden could have had a dream about the other heroes opening the door to omnifusions, getting the other elemental heroes as well as terra. In the third season, he could have discovered the mask heroes.
That wouldn’t really make sense because of how generic they are.
It really depends on how you make the deck, my Neos variant defeated my friend masked hero variant, and he has defeated other variants on master duel. So again, it really depends on how you make the deck.

I use the names I personally prefer. I like the name Judai over Jaden, but also Like Chazz over Jun and Aster over Edo. So sorry by not abiding by one naming convention over the other, but I just go with what I like and provide pics so people know who I am talking about.
Honestly, though, the upgrades are a lateral move. Both are more entrneched in Japanese media and nostalgia, as opposed to the more Americanized media and nostalgia that he starts with. It just seems like cultural illiteracy to me to not "get" Neos and how it's an evolution of Judai's anime deck.
We get it. The deck just sucks, and it sucks that people are using 'lol cultural consistency' to excuse a deck that made partnering with him a chore in Tag Force/World Championship and made his duels even more contrived than they already were.
@@maltheopia I didn't say anything about the mechanics of the deck, I'm speaking from it in the same terms of narrative cohesion and validity that the poster is.
Also it sounds like you just aren't that good at GOAT-adjacent formats if you thought partnering with Jaden was hard, he was legit one of the easiest partners to run with in those games, and almost always was the easiest partner available in the first grouping available to both get and work with.
The only step 1 partner who's easier to work with is Zane but he's much harder to get, and that was in the game where Jaden didn't even HAVE Neos.

@@208getalife I don't care about narrative cohesion if it makes watching the actual show boring. Narrative cohesion is what made Yusaku's duels from Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS a chore, because he's a high-stakes Batman-level genius who straight-up can't lose duels. It makes the duel portion of the show largely pointless, even if I thought he was an interesting character.
Jaden's switch to Neos makes it even worse. The deck is so bad that it completely suspends disbelief that he was able to never lose a single duel. Unlike Yusaku, his duels weren't even interesting as a power fantasy, because instead of running an overpowered meta deck Neos just ended up humping the leg of plot armor. If Jaden was actually allowed to lose duels after getting Neos, that wouldn't be so bad, but it's just awful. So if narrative cohesion is going to suck all of the tension out of the most important part of a Yu-Gi-Oh! anime, the duels, then I don't want narrative cohesion.
As far as the games go:
Jaden's deck is passable in TF1. Not as good as Chumley, Zane, or Bastion (especially Stirless Earth version), but still much better than Syrus and Chazz. E-Heroes aren't very good, but you can work around it with Warrior beatdown.
Jaden's Neos deck is borderline unusable in TF2, but no page 1 character in TF2 has good decks so he gets a pass. Tyrano's deck is the only one you don't have to build your strategy around. You have to build around it, and even when you do, the result is just merely okay. At least when you build around Aster and Jesse you have Perfect Circle/Crystal Abundance to shoot for. It's not as bad as Syrus and Blair and Chazz's deck. The problem is that TF2 is the worst game of the Tag Force franchise, so who cares? The only reason to play TF2 is if you wanted to play the last meta before Synchros was introduced, but in that case, why aren't you just playing World Championship 2007/2008?
Jaden straight-up has the worst deck of Page 1 characters in Tag Force 3. Seriously. Even worse than Chazz and Syrus. Because at least Chazz and Syrus can benefit from Synchros in that game. Jaden can't. If you use Synchros with, say, Alexis's Manju/Senju or her Cyber Angels, it doesn't necessarily lock her out of her deck's gimmick (or in Chazz's case, it gives him an out from his crappy cards). You can still use Advanced Ritual Art even after she tunes her searchers/cybers. Jaden has no such out, making his deck the worst of the page 1 characters.

The Masked Hero by a landslide. For one, like you mentioned, the way Judai got the neo spacian was incredibly nonsensical. With the added prospect that Judai was being a sore loser after his duel against Edo that led to that point. (Yes it was a lot more than that, but that doesn’t really change how Judai poorly handled the loss.)
Whereas the progress to getting the Masked Hero feels like something anyone could do. Judai probably opened packs and did some trading to get the cards, though that sadly was offscreen. But it is far more likely to happen than going into a fever dream and magically getting cards of your own design because you are the chosen one.
Ultimately it comes to how the Neo Spacian comes off more like plot devices, and the Masked Hero feels like natural progression for Judai characters. I just love the idea of the Masked Hero so much more. Sorry not sorry.

I would have to go with the Manga Judai's decl better than his anime counterpart.
His deck just feels so much consistency, and it improved a lot of his deck, especially Judai's EX deck.

Let's see. Neo-Spacians made Jaden's deck go from barely passable in Tag Force 1 to unusable crap in Tag Force 2/3, Masked Heroes actually made Jaden surprisingly decent in Tag Force Special.

Also, I don't care if you use Japanese or English names, but at least be consistent. If you're going to call Judai by his Japanese name, do the same for Manjoume (Chazz) or Edo (Aster)
I go with my preference. I like Judai over Jaden but prefer Chazz and Aster of Edo and Jun. People know who I am talking about regardless.

I like the Masked Heroes. They're cool. But I like Neos more. Because it feels like Jaden created this deck from his imagination and his imagination came to life. It feels like they support the Elemental Heroes so well because Jaden created them, and it definitely would make sense if Chumly created the support for Neos and the Neo Spacians like he did with Skyscraper 2. But sadly they never said Chumly created the support for Jaden's deck, but it would be so cool if he did.
I swear after Season 2 Chumely should've gave Jaden a new card that synergies Neo-Spacians and Elemental HEROES like Pegasus in the dub wondered did they ever release Neos yet meaning they were going to and Pegasus knew about the Neo-Spacians since he must've been involved in Kaiba's card creation competition

Masked heroes were definitely but it was baffled me how dark law legit had no effect in the manga heck alot of masked heroes didnt have a effect all the main deck and even some other fusions so it always bothered me if it was actually a better gameolay wise then his old deck didnt help he only had it for 4 duels and lost 2 of them also Neo's thighs could a kill a man

I never really liked the Neo-Spacians for the same reason you said, they don't fit with the Elemental HEROs. If it was just Neos and he had fusions with the existing HEROs, that would have been great because it would have been an evolution of the deck. Instead, Jaden just had a 2-in-1 deck that were vaguely related. Haven't read the GX manga yet but I just like the Masked HEROs more.
OCG/TCG: Masked Heroes, at the time of their release they were much better. Neos aside from Alius and Rainbow had never seen any viable play.
The reason is simple, most Anime Neos/E Hero cards were nerfed, while most Manga E Heroes were buffed.
Just look at what Stratos, Absolute Zero and Dark Law do in the Manga and then how much they were buffed.
That is also why Anime Neos/Heroes would probably be better. Anime Neos Knight and Neos Wiseman are much better than their real life counterparts.
You'd also have to take into consideration that Neos Heroes got a massive nerf in 2008, when the Extra Deck limit was created (which changed how they designed Fusions).
Most Manga Extra Deck monsters were released afterwards, which shows, since they all became generic.
Tldr. Had Manga Heroes been printed when Neos originally was and Neos Cards had been Anime only till 2014, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

MASKED HEROES!!! I "Honest"-ly don't like how Neos monsters return to the Extra Deck, and even though can contact fuse (without poly), the effects are not worth it!!!
Cosmo Neos? The opponent can’t activate card effects. Nebula Neos? Draw cards equal to the amount of cards your opponent controls, then negate one card on the field (could be Nebula meaning it doesn’t return). Dark Neos? Negate a monster your opponent controls until it works (Appolusa can’t stop it). Magma Neos gains 400 attack for every card on the field including itself.
All the Neos fusions are worth it. The triple contact ones and Cosmo Neos do something when they return to extra deck. Storm returns every card on the field back into the deck. Magma Neos returns every card on the field into the hand (so the opponent would have to use their traps then or practically never). Nebula Neos banishes every card on the field face down (good against decks that need certain cards). And Cosmo Neos destroys every card the opponent controls.
I feel like if we ever get the main deck masked heroes, they should search mask change from deck or from graveyard when summoned to let them really get in on attacking
I'm still waiting for main deck mask hero . I made an insane board lock which allow only 1 backrow for oppo since great shogan shien be summoned by wake up in oppo turn and plasma to negate while having fav contact which go great with main deck mask hero 🫡to negate that one spell / trap

Irl its Masked Heroes. Easily. In terms of the works we saw them in, Neos Space. Sadly.
LightRay and Bassols dont skip levels with the mask change.... Koga is LVL6 in the manga and Daian was summoned with another spellcard instead of mask change if i recall correctly
Neos was the better upgrade since base anime e heroes was the epitome of garbage, while mangá e heroes was overpowered from the start even if the masked heroes upgrade outclasses all.

I remember there being a Trap Fusion Card that Jaden/Judai used in the beginning of the manga to counter a guy that had a ring that messed with duel discs ability to activate spells. Does anyone remember what it was I think it let Jaden/Judai fusion summon on his opponents turn?
Masked is infinitely better and cooler than Neospacians. Not only are Neospacians terrible in real world while masked is like at the peak of hero but neo space feels very unfitted to the whole hero theme it's kind of random and tacked on. If we're talking about fans of both the anime and the actual card game it's even arguable that Dark Law is more iconic than Neos as a card due to how good it is
I hope some where in the future konami boost masked hero and make contrast hero better . The current contrast hero is like soso to me now especially with the current material needed

It also kind helps that the manga heroes went from more Shinto-oriented concepts such as everything having a spirit, to the Masked heroes being Japanese Tokusatsu-style heroes akin to Kamen Rider. the anime lost the plot, going from American comic heroes to....Disney? Best i can say about it.
Neos is based on Ultraman and the "central hero with multiple forms" is a common and popular idea in Japanese superheroes.

@@jaymiechan The Neo-Spacians are the catalysts for his form change. I'm not familiar with Ultraman and they might have a more direct example and the closest equivalents in Kamen Rider wouldn't happen until after GX but there probably was some tokusatsu media floating around at that time where the hero fuses with different aliens to get different forms.
The closest equivalent in Kamen Rider came after Neos but it'd be something like Kiva, a hero who has a main form he transforms into but there also are supporting characters who he can fuse with to gain different benefits. At the time of Neos' release, recent Kamen Rider series would include Ryuki (multiple Riders who each have an individual contract with a Monster that gives them weapons and buffs) or Blade (Riders seal monsters in cards and can use them for special attacks).
