    People who have never had money have a VERY hard time draining their savings to pay for a car because they are afraid something bad is going to happen at the wrong time. It’s that emotion that Dave needs to address. Tell people WHY other than “because it works”.

    • @cindymann3673
      @cindymann3673 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      He does often explain the why though. The reason he recommends smallest to largest amount, instead of lowest to highest interest, when paying off debt, is because of the psychological reward that comes with seeing a debt disappear.

    • @adoe2305
      @adoe2305 ปีที่แล้ว +8

So he’s having tons of personalities handle the show to build their skill set and likely to evaluate who does the best to eventually handle the show. I get the fear factor of paying off debt with savings - I've been there. Here's the thing: Many people finance a new car for 5-8 years with little regard for something bad happening. But if it does, you are on the hook for making payments on a depreciating asset or risk a repo and be out all the $ you paid PLUS the risk of being upside-down and having to pay the difference on a car you no longer have. By draining savings to pay off debt, it should take you a matter of months, not years, to build your savings back up. With that said, one thing you need to consider before draining savings is the stability of your income. If it's highly at risk due to high probability of layoffs or other reasons, then Dave advocates pausing the Baby Steps and stockpiling cash.

    • @ericg9092
      @ericg9092 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This is the common sense part that people forget about. If you're in fear of losing your job, you're not ready for Baby Steps. Secure your income, get a second (or third) job, and proceed, IF you're serious about getting rid of debt once and for all. If not, well, continue to live as you've always lived. It took me a LONG time before I was ready to commit to getting off the hamster wheel, because I had always believed if I wanted something I'd just work harder to buy it with borrowed money.

    I have a credit card my back issued for travel. It’s just easier to rent a car & for Hotel incidentals. I feel scared to travel with my debit card. It’s paid in full when the bill arrives & it’s in the Safe Deposit Box the rest of the time.

    I took on a mortgage and new car loan and became a millionaire with those loans, 1.5 years after financing the car and 0.5 years after financing the house. Im 33 now. Being debt free is not the only millionaire plan. In fact, if you manage debt properly you'll hit millionaire status faster. When your debt is 20% or less of your monetary net worth you still have security if shit goes sideways.
    Dave's plan is awesome. It's not the only path to being a millionaire. It's arguably the slow path.
