Matsuzaki is defeated twice in the same circumstances: having his gard broken by his hands going up and receiving a sharp kote in the finals. He will have a Takanabe comeback from this weakness, I am sure.
he opened it up just before the strike inviting the opponent, in order to execute a kaeshi waza. The opponent well received the invitation in due order and accepted it post-haste :D
No, although perhaps more so than western-style fencing. Note kendo is a competition sport. This means that certain tactics, such as tsubazeriai, would likely be fatal in real combat with sharp blade. Unarmed martial arts are better if you're looking for self defense. Or something like shinto-muso ryu jodo (short staff), if you carry a staff or a walking stick on a daily basis. I'd recommend judo, aikido, or karate as unarmed arts though.

Awesome~~`Beautiful Kendo!!!!!!!
Kote was like lightning ⚡️
In slow motion, his kote was faster than mine 🤣
Can kendo be useful for self-defense?thanks
Empty handed, no. If you have a cane or walking stick, no. There are more productive strikes for a cane/walking stick.
@@cleekmaker00 thanks
