You’re not giving up. You’re reprioritizing due to weather. Projects are plenty. It’s working smarter not harder. When we know how to pivot we are still productive. That garden is not going anywhere. Congratulations on all that you do! HAPPY BIRTHDAY OCCY!

If nothing else from COVID I’ve learned to Pivot ..a lot! And as recommended for my birth sign to ‘be more like bamboo & bend with the wind’! Sounds like you’re doing much of the same Max, so good on ya!! Happy Birthday to u-tubes favourite pooch and a lucky 13the year to dear OCCY..he’s such a sweetheart and adores his Papa Max..can’t wait to see the ‘spoilage’..lol.. the fig tree at the end was literally brilliant!
Happy Birthday, Occy! And, Max, stopping work on the garden was not a fail - it was a nod to the fact that Mother Nature will always win and that your life on the land is directly connected to her whims.
I think a nice birthday present for Occy would be a puppy. Someone he can share time with, someone to teach, and someone to keep him moving...seniors need that. Occy would be a great role model.
I was thinking this too but I would suggest maybe a pup that’s a year or two old. Some dogs that have been chilling on their own for a long time sometimes don’t adjust incredibly well to brand new crazy puppies.

Bill Mollison - co-originator of Permaculture. Build your systems where you need them. The compost system - next to your garden so you don't have to carry garden waste to a compost bin area and then compost back to your garden. Have them right next to each other. The chicken/animal system - next to your garden so you grow feed for your animals - and in the case of chickens, you can pen off a section of the garden you've harvested from where they can dig up what's been left behind, forage for bugs, fertilize the garden, and till your soil, preparing it for succession planting. Collect water from the roof of their pen for them and/or the garden. Look into chicken tractors or rotational grazing (usually meant for cattle and other grazers but can be modified for smaller animals). The shelter system - next to your garden. For tools or animals. You want your tools left where you use them so you're not carrying back and forth. The roof is another water source. The water system - collect water wherever and however you can, where you need it so you're not running pipes and hoses everywhere. Use gravity. Dig ditches and swales to collect and/or divert water. Slow it, spread it, sink it, store it. Every drop of water should stay on your property but have a non-destructive way to move off of the property if you have a severe weather event. Plan for flood and for drought. The power system - all roofs can house a solar panel even if it's just for a nightlight. Happy Birthday old man!

I’ve no idea why you think you’ve failed at the garden, you did a great job cleaning that sucker out and loading up the trailer. The work on the PowerPoints and the lighting is stunning 😮, I’m so impressed ❤. Your mate Kev and his sidekick Kimmie are fabulous, thanks for helping Max out on that huge task. I love this channel. And, a very happy 13th birthday to the real star OCCY 🥰
God Bless Kev for working so hard on his "time off". The lights on the gate look SO good! Clutch! Thank you for NOT finishing the vegetable garden! It helps me feel not so defeated by mine! 😄

Hey there. If it helps, I have some advice about storage space. I've remodeled half a dozen homes over 20+ years and in that time, I've learned a few things about how to use space. The first thing I would say is if you have the luxury or storing things in a location other than your living space, TAKE IT. If you can build a shed, build it and store things there. in a perfect world, your living space should contain only the things you live with and the things you need to live. Anything else that you don't need on a daily or weekly or monthly basis, get it out if you can. It simplifies things so much and it allows you to experience your living space as a home (not a storage shed). It frees you up both literally and figuratively to inhabit your space in a way that supports how you want to live, not how you need to live. You'll see bathrooms and reading nooks and meditation spaces where you would otherwise see tool and paint storage. It's just a huge game-changer. It took me a loooooong time to learn my most recent house and I'm so glad I took that time. I only had to build once and I was able to take advantage of all of the views and feelings of the space and where the light falls at different times of the day. And I took everything I could take out, out. I was only able to envision all that I did because I wasn't encumbered by stuff and things tucked everywhere. Feel free to ignore, but I hope it helps. I've learned so much and made so many mistakes, I feel obligated to share! Bisou bisou!
Love the video! We want real life, not fake glossy life. No fail, a pivot. We've all got multiple projects in process for countless reasons. The rain getting directly into the garden and not feeding weeds is actually good prep the soil. Lighting The Fig, glorious idea! My jaw literally dropped open, beyond beautiful 😍. You're doing great!
I’ve got galvanised metal raised beds. I wouldn’t be without them. It’s an Aussie company called Birdies. They’re excellent. Speaking as someone the other side of the Tasman Sea. 🇳🇿
Happy Birthday Occy! It is really awesome to see an old dog with a well lived life enjoying his golden time. Especially with such a caring and loving owner. Enjoy this time with each other.
I lost my furry companion and best friend of the last 10 years 9 wks ago today. I adore Occy, but couldn't watch your channel for a few wks because it just reminded me of what I lost. Thankfully that level of grief slowly faded and now seeing Oc helps. Happy Birthday Occy, your presence in this world brings more to people than you and your dad even realize. Much love from California.
Hugs!! There are mediums out there who talk to pets. If that's something you're open to. After I lost my minpin (my baby), she would come comfort me in my dreams. Look for the signs❤
Lora, my heart breaks for your loss. We had a traumatic neurological injury in January and I thought we had to say goodbye to one of our boys. I cried for days. Fortunately, he has slowly recovered. He didn’t walk for six weeks and it was rough, but he’s getting around (albeit wobbly) now. I hope your heart heals to be open again. 🐶❤️
There's a rescue out there who needs you as much as you need them. I feel like we should have a pup around as our good old dogs get older. Someone to share the loss with. Anyone who says we don't deserve dogs has never said goodbye to a good one. We pay in grief for their boundless love and faithful companionship.
If you're not already aware of them, look up The Weedy Garden, Geoff Lawton, and Morag Gamble. They all live in your climate. Their permaculture knowledge can help with your water and garden issues. I think you'll especially love Weedy. 😊
Often times when you’re held up on a project, you reevaluate and redesign for the better. I used to plan and bulldoze through until I was done. As I get older (I’m 64), I start, stand back and re-examine before I proceed. I always come up with something better, even if it’s just something small.
Weather, daylight and temperature always have baring on renovations, just have a couple of projects running and flow between them, it’s not giving up it’s juggling with the elements, love the realism
Happy Birthday Occy. As a dog owner of several animals over many years. Max is a very lucky companion. Hope your Birthday was filled with much love and all your treats. May you live for many more. Congrats Max you have done a wonderful job!
Oh my goodness, Max. I can remember just like yesterday you telling us. It was his 12th birthday. My how time goes by fast. He's such a cutie. God bless you Occy. We love you. Happy 13th birthday, buddy.🐾🐾💐🥩🥓🍳🥚🍦🍦🍦💧💧💧💧💧🎂🍰🎂🍰doggie cake&Doggie ice cream.🎉🎉🎉🎉
🎈 HAPPY 13th BIRTHDAY OCCY!! 🎈 ❤ 🐾 My 2023 lesson was realizing there is a difference between having to pivot & giving up! You were faced with a challenge and had to pivot projects! You still did a fantastic job!
I’m studying horticulture and today I was learning all about using Gypsum on clay soils, to fix exactly your bogging problem! Farms use it so tractors don’t get bogged in winter. Breaks up the clay, so water drains through better.
Indeed! We have a rice and crawfish farm in Central Louisiana, USA. We use the gypsum to child our roads between fields! And, BAMBOO! Hahahaah we have lots growing in the farms edge and our immigrant workers built some bridges and lanes in more difficult areas, now we can plant and harvest in the furthest part of the farm! Genius! Lol
There is a difference between "giving up" and postponement. Your projects are on Gods time... you are doing everything in the right order at the right time. Blessings in disguise.
Wow! What a great friend Kev is... So hardworking and knowledgeable... The electricity is needed and he completely handled that like A Boss!! Excellent job, Kev...And the lights on the gate and the beautiful fig tree are absolutely beautiful! What a hard worker and a great friend to you Max... And I love his cute, vacuum terrorizing little pup🥰 Well Done Max and Kev, your home looks Amazing 🤩 And Max, the rain will stop eventually and you can use your trailer again. Sometimes we can't control things and like you said, you've got to leave it for awhile and not get discouraged... Max your home is looking Amazing, you have done such an exceptional job on fixing it up and decorating it... So proud of you, Max... Give Occy a big hug and scratches on his ears and belly. Blessings to you and Occy🙏❤️🙏
My friends tell me I'm too hard on myself. I was supposed to do an art fair this weekend but I got sick. I'm 70 years old and push myself too hard. I can't afford that therapy. I tried to sign up but anyway. I think you also have too high personal expectations. Just relax. You did awesome!
Happy birthday Occy! A little advice from a longtime home gardener - gardening is a marathon not a sprint. Break big projects into smaller chunks and slowly work your way through - there will always be something to do - there is no end!
Regarding the termites, I live on land (in Texas) and our bug inspector said it’s actually for the better to have stumps and things in the yard for termites to feast on, that way they stay in the yard and don’t make their way to your house to feast. (He gave the example of, why would you drive miles away to get food if you had a food stand next door 😂). Unsure what the termite situation is in Oz but in Texas it’s basically 100% guarantee they are in every yard (if you live on land), so in order to avoid them feasting on your house, having wood or downed tree limbs in the yard, keeps them busy enough to avoid your house.
Oooh… i don’t think that’s accurate. Normally you get rid of it all and have lest control coming in.. Termites close to or in the tropics makes it all much worse. It must be treated wood but preferably concrete and wooden panels. But they get inside as well the buggers, destroying whole kitchens, floors, walls if owners aren’t careful or know what to look for. These things swarm especially in mating season and will take off to nearby nee grounds where there’s new food. Interested to hear what others experience, knowledge on this is though. I would not let them stay in ten property though as they dig tunnels real fast. They will nit just stay where they currently are,
Yes, here in Georgia, USA they say if you use firewood keep it away from the house. We have had termite damage in our home, once before we owned the house and once we found it ourselves inside (those little mud channels you see) and called our service for treatment. We also found it when we replaced our front porch columns. The handyman said it looked to him the builders had used untreated wood there. (a big no-no for our area) Of course that time we had no idea, we just knew the columns had rotted and needed replacing but the house was nearly 20 years old at the time, so we figured it was age until he found the termites. We do have a termite service we call who treats it regular, but they come and do an extra treatment if we find stuff like that. We have those termite traps all around the house perimeter to attract hm them there. I think we pay $250 a year for a service that changes the traps three times a year and they inspect the inside of the house to look for damage once a year.
Remove all termites and the wood they are on. In warmer climates it gets even worse with termite damage. I hope he calls pest control and ask them for scythe advice. These things swarm when mating as well so they easily reach nearby buildings. And they dig tunnels so fast if you let them just be there. It’s a serious problem and if you actually see them, you have to act fast. Many insurance dominates might nit cover for termite damage either. What a shame.
Our cabin got termites and damaged our next door neighbors house. It was a nightmare. Luckily it didn't hurt our house but we had to destroy and throw the cabin away and neighbors had to get a hotel with 10 kids for a week and expensive job
Well done Max and Kev. I live in an old rented house with not many power points. In my bedroom (the main bedroom) I have one double power point, same in the loungeroom. I have to use extension cords as well and it is a pain. Happy Birthday to Occy, please give him a big kiss and hug from me. I would recommend you go for galvanized raised garden beds. With all the rain you get there you won't have to worry about your veggies drowning because raised garden beds are better able to drain and not become water logged. They will stop the Pademelons, rabbits etc getting into the beds and hey, no having to kneel or bend!
It’s awesome to have friends help when you need them. I’ve lived with electrical issues. Cords and all. Nightmare. Congratulations and Happy Birthday 🎉🐾
I love the way Occy watches you working and follows you around Max, he just adores his ‘Hooman’ Dad. Give him a big Birthday cuddle from us 🦴🎂 and Great job Kev on the electrical work. Hope you get a break in the weather soon Max & research what to plant as we head into winter here in Oz. Also if the bush rats are eating the electrical cables under the house, they’re going to love your vege patch!! Pretty sure they’ll get through that fencing! So good luck keeping those cute little bastards out 🍀🤞
What an incredible blessing all your friends are! To be honest, I was voting for the natural gate doors, but with the lighting the burnt coloring it is amazing!
😚 That outdoor shower, in the wilderness, with the pouring rain....my mouth is still hanging open!!! That sounds like such a relaxing, soul rejuvenating experience and I am all for it!!! Btw....you didn't "give up" you simply postponed till a better time. Besides giving up, failing etc is not trying in the first place! I'm proud of you and know you can accomplish anything you put your mind to!! You have shown that over & over. We are all human and limited as well so sometimes we come across things we need to get help with or walk away from and that's fine as well. Keep on, keepin' on... ✌🏼💙🐾
Happy Birthday Occ ! My best mate/ girl dog is 13 also. The way to look at the rain Max is that without it you wouldn’t be surrounded by all that beauty!
Happy 13th birthday Occy!🎉🎉 Sweet boy, I hope you got a new alligator to play with 🐊 Kev is amazing and that fig….. even more spectacular with the lights.
happy birthday, occy! you are a dear, sweet boy! 🥰 max, the lighting in the backyard looks magical! the lights on the sides of the gate look lovely, but i am enchanted with the lights in the bushes and the fig tree! nice friend you found yourself there...that was an amazing job he did! enjoy your new lights...
Loveys, 1. Snake alert under that home sweet Okkyhome 2. Kimmy is a serene doggie unless Dyson is in town 3. To keep off the mice chewing your new wires , isn't it possible to cover them up with a kind of lining, cable raceways, cable sleeveways or whatever? ❤ Occy have a lazy boon day🎉
Again - so much packed into one vid, Max ! You didnt give up - you made a practical, logistical change of direction due to the incliment weather, and refocused your plan onto the electrical problem - and solved it masterfully. I predict you will turn this place into a luxurious BnB oasis within 2 years and then get the urge to travel-wander again 😀Happy Birthday Occy ! 🎂
Sensational video, Max! As always, love the adventures! A huge Happy Birthday to Occy! Such an amazing fellow! Give the boy a huge hug and let him know how much he is loved and appreciated! Such a sweet boy! All the very best to you both, Max, and I hope the sun will have come out long enough so that the trailer can be moved and the veggie garden project can be worked on some more. Looked amazing when last you left it! So glad you have power run through the house! That’s awesome! Never ceases to amaze me how differently things are done in tropical areas where winter isn’t an issue. Thinking of you both and looking forward to the next video! You are both so, so appreciated!! Take care, Max and Occy!!😃😃👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏼👍🏼🎂🎂👏🏻💜💜💜💜👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻
Happy Birthday, Occy! Glad you were able to get the electric lines run, and everything is working properly. Don't beat yourself up over the garden - it will happen eventually. (I hope you get the trailer moved without tearing up the yard too much.)
Happy Birthday Occy! You ae are a beautiful soul and it is delightful to see you each week. This goes for You too Max. I am an Aussie living in the US and hearing you speak each week is SO nice. 🙂
🎉Happy birthday to you, haopy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Occy 🦮, happy birthday to you.🐾 🎁🎂🤗🎈 I hope you can hear me singing all the way from Germany. 😂 Kevin did a sterling job on the electrics.👍 Yay, it all looks amazing. You could put a herb spiral in the middle of the veggie garden. Herbs to be used for cooking and medicine. Raised beds are easier. Only make veggie pottagers wide enough to reach into from all sides. Everything in Permaculture has more than one purpose. It is going to be wonderful when you get your veggie garden going. Since you get so much rain, you will want to have good covered walkways around the veggie garden. Wood chips, or something you prefer. The gate looks very nice finished, blowtorched, electricfied, with lights. How cool is that! 😂 Great to keep the unwelcome out. 😉 Keep well Max your home is looking amazing. Ciao from Germany. 👋👋💜🏡👍
I have been following you for years Max & Occy … sending so much Happy Birthday 🎉love to Occy such a special dog, and he has a part of my heart. Much love to you both xx 😘 ❤❤
Occy, you not only put a smile on my face, I flat out laugh out loud, love your crazy laid back facial expressions. LOVE your dancing….I have NEVER seen a dog dance before and you are the BEST…(well, the only also…but still the BEST). You really seem part human on many occasions. Happiest of Birthday you beautiful guy…many many more!
This is not giving up. This is making a well considered decision. It shows flexibility and adaptability. So good on you Max.
Thank you 💛
Oh Max. You are too kind. Hugs to you. You’re a good man.
Excellent decision on postponing the garden for better weather. That shows intelligence not failure buddy! Happy Birthday, Occy!!!

Lighting The Fig, glorious idea! My jaw literally dropped open, beyond beautiful 😍.
You're doing great!
My advice no wood! Use galvanized metal raised beds. Lots of options. See videos where it rains a lot. No bending over with raised beds.
Metal heats fast and heats the soil quickly too and can fry your plants and especially seedlings.
We built raised wood beds in Vancouver, where it rains A LOT! We have drainage issues with our build.... but, Everythings GROWS! 🙂
We also compost and make our own dirt. Great dirt for growing veggies. Lots of veggies!!
Strawbale, cob, or cinder block beds would work well

If you're not already aware of them, look up The Weedy Garden, Geoff Lawton, and Morag Gamble. They all live in your climate. Their permaculture knowledge can help with your water and garden issues. I think you'll especially love Weedy. 😊
Hey Sharon, thanks for your comment. Interested in how you were able to watch this video before I shared the link? 😅
Creepy I’d say
Was it on patreon?
You tube glitch?!
Doo do doo doo
Often times when you’re held up on a project, you reevaluate and redesign for the better. I used to plan and bulldoze through until I was done. As I get older (I’m 64), I start, stand back and re-examine before I proceed. I always come up with something better, even if it’s just something small.
Happy birthday beautiful boy. 13 wow. You’re a star Occy.
OMG your gate with the lights! The fig roots! Your place really is extra 😂
Weather, daylight and temperature always have baring on renovations, just have a couple of projects running and flow between them, it’s not giving up it’s juggling with the elements, love the realism
HAPPY BIRTHDAY OCCY!!!!!
Love, scratches and rubs on your birthday Occy. What a stunning old man of 91 in dog years!!!! ❤❤
My 2023 lesson was realizing there is a difference between having to pivot & giving up! You were faced with a challenge and had to pivot projects! You still did a fantastic job!
Thanks for having us Max!
I love the Kimmy crickets edit! (It’s pretty accurate!)
And Happy Birthday Occy!! ❤️
Loved having you and the crew Kev! (And of course Kimmy Crickets).
Thanks for all the hard work matey. Sorry again about the coffee 💛
@@MaxandOccy better up your coffee game for next time matey 😉
Kimmy crickets! xo lolololol
YAY for electricity!! And the gate looks Amazing!!! ❤❤❤
Holy cow getting multiple outlets is huge! And...! HAPPY BIRTHDAY OCCY! What a good boy!
My miniature Australian Shepherd (at 20 lbs) also hates to walk on wet grass. Happy Birthday, Occy!
It’s not giving up! You, very sensibly, switched gears to a more weather appropriate activity. You’re doing great, keep on being you.
Genius! Lol
Yes! We used gypsum in our yard in Ohio. It worked so well you would never know it had been clay!
Put lots of gravel or stones under the galvanized raised beds so they can drain (drain holes, not too many).
There is a difference between "giving up" and postponement. Your projects are on Gods time... you are doing everything in the right order at the right time. Blessings in disguise.
Happiest Birthday Occy ❤ you are a gift to so many people. We just love you 🐾 🐾. So good to see you Max on this rainy Sunday morning.
Thanks Suzanne! The sun will come out 💛
Happy birthday Occ!! 🥳
Happy birthday, Occy.🎉
Kev, Thank you for helping Max. The power points and lights are fabulous. I like Kev's dog, too.😊
Betterhelp offers discounts. I used Max's link to sign up. Worth it!!! (You can also take breaks and pause it, if need be.)
Happy birthday Occy! A little advice from a longtime home gardener - gardening is a marathon not a sprint. Break big projects into smaller chunks and slowly work your way through - there will always be something to do - there is no end!
You can never give your dog too much love, Happy Birthday Occy. Love from Rosie Rosé (de dog) and Brindi (de cat).xx
Happy Birthday Occy! And remind your dad that delaying for better weather is not the same as giving up. I don't think Max knows how to give up! 😊
Happy Birthday Occy - Max you now have a teenager. Congratulations to you both.
Genuinely one of my favorite videos you've uploaded. The positivity is Huge
And not to use wood chips for mulch. Pine needle mulch is supposed to deter them.
Congratulations 🎉 on all the electrical updates - the lights in the garden, and, on your impressive entry gate are phenomenal 💡⚡ 🔌 -
It’s awesome to have friends help when you need them. I’ve lived with electrical issues. Cords and all. Nightmare. Congratulations and Happy Birthday 🎉🐾
Happy Birthday to your handsome, sweet pup, Occy! Thirteen years young! Every day is a better day with Occy in it! 🎂❤
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY FURRY FRIEND. You give us smiles and love everytime. Big hugs and kisses from New Jersey.❤❤🥳🐾🐶
Best part of my weekend is seeing you and Occy on your adventures ❤ fr 🇨🇦
Love that! 💛
I love all your “bougie” additions to the property!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😘 HAPPY BIRTHDAY to your adorable Occy 💞
✌🏼💙🐾
Great achievements despite the weather. Happy birthday to Occy
🐾
Happy Birthday Occ ! My best mate/ girl dog is 13 also.
The way to look at the rain Max is that without it you wouldn’t be surrounded by all that beauty!
Happy 13th birthday Occy!🎉🎉 Sweet boy, I hope you got a new alligator to play with 🐊 Kev is amazing and that fig….. even more spectacular with the lights.
Happy Birthday adorable Occy!
You did not give up on the garden, you did all the prep work.
Wow, Max and Kev. You did such an amazing job. The lights are awesome. Happy Birthday to sweet and loveable Occy.❤
Thanks Annie! 💛
Happy Birthday Occy!!!!!! Well job Max & Kev! Love when you show all the projects.
P.S. And, a Big Happy 13th Birthday to sweet Occy 🥳
happy birthday, occy! you are a dear, sweet boy!
❤
Occy have a lazy boon day🎉
It's ok, snakes keep the mice away 😅
I thought that too - some conduit piping would do the trick.
Happy birthday Occy! Doggie legend. 🏴
Happy 13th birthday to Occy! ❤
Beautiful work on all things electrical. Kevin is definitely a beauty!!
Woof! Thanks Stephanie 💛 and Kev is a bloody beauty indeed!
Naww, 🤗
Happy Birthday to a beautiful, sweet, very good boy!!! He's so loved!! ❤😊❤
Happy Birthday Occy !!! ❤ (By the way, tire chains might have gotten you out of the mud. Get the old tires back...) God bless!
You are my most favorite TH-camr now! Just so uplifting to watch you and Occyand your shenanigans I; the jungle🤣😘
Legend's 🐾💙🙌😊🐾 HAPPY BIRTHDAY Occy 🥺🎂🥳💙

Happy Birthday Occy! You ae are a beautiful soul and it is delightful to see you each week. This goes for You too Max. I am an Aussie living in the US and hearing you speak each week is SO nice. 🙂
Happy, happy birthday Occy! Kevin's definitely a legend and a great friend. He actually lit up your life. LOL
Happy Birthday, Occy!!! Big bark from my English sheepdog Bob, who will be 14 soon. He would love to meet you!
🎉Happy birthday to you, haopy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Occy 🦮, happy birthday to you.🐾 🎁🎂🤗🎈
I hope you can hear me singing all the way from Germany. 😂
Kevin did a sterling job on the electrics.👍
Yay, it all looks amazing.
Great to keep the unwelcome out. 😉
Keep well Max your home is looking amazing. Ciao from Germany. 👋👋💜🏡👍
Happy birthday Occy 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
I have been following you for years Max & Occy … sending so much Happy Birthday 🎉love to Occy such a special dog, and he has a part of my heart. Much love to you both xx 😘 ❤❤
You might want to put some kind of screening from bottom of outside walls to the ground to keep critters out and wires safe. Your home is beautiful!
Definitely
Agreed, was about to say this as he doesn't want a repeat with his new wiring.
Happy Birthday Occy
Happy birthday Occy! 🎂
