You are a wonderful awesome person.... giving credit to other folks who showed you the way. GREAT JOB. And your video inspired me to fix my band saw. Thank you
Cy, you are a life saver!! I struggled for hours to try to get my tires on the wheels and was convinced they were the wrong size. Watching your video was brilliant!!! I followed your guide, made a few small mods to it, and it worked perfectly!! Thank you so much!!!
Cy you did a very good job on changing those tires.I need to change mind too, so I was looking for video and ran up on yours. Thank You for that lesson.
Great video Cy, I had to change my tires recently however I was lucky enough to have a friend help me out. After soaking the tires in hot water we just powered them on together and it worked Yay! I also love your Sabe cutout on the wall, it figures you're from Oregon.
If you lived here in Arizona, you could just lay the tires outside for a while and they would soften right up. That's what I've done. We can fry eggs on the sidewalk right now! Good job of installing your new tires. It's a great feeling to accomplish what at first seems impossible!
Wow! I remember going outside at 8am for a walk, not realizing how hot it would get during the walk. Gotta plan well in Az! And yes, a great feeling to get something done that seemed impossible!!!
I sympathize with your struggle and have gone through many similar experiences before, where a "quick" task turns into an all day endurance challenge. I fortunately found a video which showed doing this with the wheel in place. You tie the tire partially on on two places with string. The you use a drill with a dowel, short piece of threaded rod or similar and roll the rest of the belt on. It works using the same principle. I was able to install two urethane belts on my Powermatic 14" in about 15 minutes.
Thanks 😊 Your way sounds great! Taking the wheel off is a challenge in its own. Not having to do that step would be nice, and sounds really quick! Thanks for the tip!
@@penixb5762 As I recall I did not need to do that. The video I was referring to is titled "Replacing a urethane bandsaw tire the absolute quickest and best method".
That was kinda scary to watch. Every time the bent PVC piece whipped around I cringed then sighed in relief that it did not hit you in the face! Going to watch Ed’s video now. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the video. I used a slight variation of your method and it worked well. I also have the Laguna 1412. I ordered replacement tires from Laguna. I used the 1/2 inch dowel and 1/2 inch PVC in my vise like you did, but I only needed it to be a couple of inches higher than the wheel when I did the procedure and I was able to use just a straight piece of PVC. Once I had the tire all the way on the wheel I was able to continues rotating the wheel itself to get the even seal of the tire. It is possible that the Laguna tire was slightly different in size or maybe a slightly different compound than the tire you used, but I did not need to pre stretch the tire. Or maybe I just got lucky.
Hi Cy, A good way of getting the tire on. You won't have to go to the gym today, you have already had your exercise. I have never heard of a blade melting the tire?
Its been awhile since I took those off. I looked at the video and it refreshed me of what I did. I used a hammer to "tap" the center of the bottom wheel. Tap it right where the center bolt is. A few taps (some pretty heavy!) then try to pull the wheel off, tap again and try again. After this tap and pull session I was finally able to get the wheel off. It took a lot of effort though. I hope that helps. I traded that saw for a different saw so I don't have that one anymore.
Well done! I have the same model saw. If you don't mind, would you tell us what you were doing that destroyed the tires? None of my mistakes have melted the tires.
@Bob T252 I had a huge slice of log about the max thickness the saw could handle. I had a smaller blade than I should have and when I started cutting it everything froze up. I cut into it maybe 2 inches. And that was enough to melt the tires. Yikes.
@@CysCorner I will watch out for that. I wouldn't have thought about the blade getting that hot. I used mine to resaw a cutting board that was at the saw's maximum capacity.
@David Murphy I tapped (well, hit pretty hard) the center bolt with a hard rubber mallet. I watched people do this on some videos, so I tried it. It took multiple blows and multiple pulls of the wheel but it finally gave way and slid off. It was tough.
😨 I agree with 'wacky wood works' 😂💪. Cy , I bet you've got muscles on your muscles now, extremely well done, I was expecting husband to apear 😂😂💖🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I replaced my bandsaw tires twice and everyone seems to complain how hard they are to get on. I wish people would take their wheel off it only takes two seconds and makes tire replacement a breeze.
I have a 10" Delta band saw; removing the wheels is not SIMPLE. First one must remove a snap ring (with snap ring pliers-nothing else will work, trust me); next, remove the phillips screw that holds the wheel in place in the front, then remove the two threaded circular discs (+ washer) in back of the wheel. That's a s far as I got: there's a bearing inside the center of the wheel, which, unless it's removed, I can't take the sliding tensioner off, and hence, can't put the wheel on a dowel to turn it and stretch the new tire on. So this idea that it's as easy as pie? Not so much.
I just couldn't do it with the wheel on. Taking the wheels off was a pain, but once they were off putting the tire on was super quick with this weird way to do it.

Thanks for writing!!!!
Well well well. I gave up and went to You tube for a solution. After watching 2 solutions. I announce you are the winner. Thank you
Yay!!! I've replaced so many band saw tires now, I don't dread it anymore!
The tire on my band saw broke. Came upon your website. Your method was a success for me. Now I am a fan.
Yay! I'm so happy it worked for you. I've changed so many now and with no problems!!!!
Snap on what happened and thanks heaps for taking the time to make this video. Getting the old ones of was super easy. But need guidance on what next
Olá Brasil!🙋
¡¡¡¡Hola!!!!
Very good! You gave me a good chuckle as I had many of the same issues and will have to get back to the project.
Glad for the chuckles :) This is a super easy way to change the tires though!!! Hope you got yours all changed!
thank you.. i did the same thing except i welded 2 pins to a piece of angle iron and put in my vise. worked great...
Great idea!!!
After all this time of enjoying your videos you still surprise me good video
Thank you so much for that :)
Clear, fun and looks like you enjoyed it
I did! The trick has made changing tires on these things no longer an impossible chore! Thank you!

Thank you :)
It looks like LH threads hold on the top pulley(Rightey loosey/Lefty tighty) Was the bottom pulley the same threads?
Hello, its been so long since I took the wheels off I don't remember. So sorry!!!
and, now I know how to do it. !!!!!!!!
Hi Cy, A good way of getting the tire on. You won't have to go to the gym today, you have already had your exercise. I have never heard of a blade melting the tire?
Thanks John :) I never heard of that either, but somehow I did it, ugh!!!!
Hello Cy, how did you remove the lower wheel. I have a Laguna 1412 also and have searched and can’t find any help.
Its been awhile since I took those off. I looked at the video and it refreshed me of what I did. I used a hammer to "tap" the center of the bottom wheel. Tap it right where the center bolt is. I am also curious. What causes a band saw tire to melt like this?
@@pteddie6965 I answered this up above back to Bob!
@@bobt2522 I think using blade that was too small and trying to turn it did the trick.
Cy, what tricks did you use to get your top wheel off? Mind is stuck and I have emailed Laguna for help but they aren't too responsive. Thanks.
@David Murphy I tapped (well, hit pretty hard) the center bolt with a hard rubber mallet. I watched people do this on some videos, so I tried it. It took multiple blows and multiple pulls of the wheel but it finally gave way and slid off. It was tough.

Because of the way I changed the tires?
