This is from an album and one of the first DVDs made in HD. I was projectionist for the premiere and actually encountered Dizzy in the lobby during rehearsals. I said hello and asked how he was doing that fine day and he gave me one of his big smiles, a tip of his hat said "i'm doing just fine young fellow." I was so much younger then.
Bought the CD on a whim when it came out in 1989. I don't think I have ever listened to anything that blew me away the 1st time I heard it as much as this did.
In the concert video, one of the musicians said that Dizzy was carrying that rhythm stick through the airport and you could here him all through the terminal. Imagine if he did that in 2022, the TSA would F'n taze him...
I was on the fence as to a purchase of the disk, as the reviewer(s) gave the album a mediocre review (I heard "Barbados" on the radio while I was in the shower and thought; was that great? I wasn't sure, what with the water sounds and all) anyway, I flipped a metaphorical quarter and just, what the heck, bought it... then I found this great song! So now I'm feeling fine, thank you. How's Barbados sound? Guess I'll find out. Thanks for extending the music to us!
Awesome track. Would love it but right channel treble cutting in and out throughout track. For example cuts in at 4:25, cuts out again 5:45. Is this on the recording?
