"upmixed" stereo is way better than Atmos mixes. If you have a properly calibrated/tuned system, It increases depth and width like you've never heard. I feel like the atmos mixes tend to lock into individual channel locations, maybe bouncing things around. Ok, that's fun, but you don't get the sense of depth and space you get in a 2 ch.
In more simple terms, a lot of Atmos mixes are avoiding phantom images. Which might be good for most consumers. A cool party trick to show their buddies.

Joe I don't know how your vog is setup but maybe adjust the sound parameters under audio and move it to 15. Also adjust the auro from small, medium up to the movie option. I hear and get a ton of use on it and it transforms into the best immersion for me. Anything from football games, to nature ambience in dialoge scenes, to every fly over it's awsome for me. Maybe increase your level for the vog but it's the only thing that has given me actual goose bumps, caused me to duck my neck and yell out wow! Also, the vog creates the top portion of the bubble of sound and without it properly configured you aren't realizing all of the goodness up there. gl

Don’t have auro, what’s better for upmixing movies , neural x or Dolby surround?
I use Dolby surround for 2 channel but here mix reactions for Dolby surround and neural x for movies

You people who upmix instead of using native Atmos tracks are monsters. Absolute monsters! 😉

you people...dude I don't care what people select if they like it. For "you people" I like to visit them in one of my junker cars that I like, and when they call me a monster I laugh, and show up next time in one of my real cars and I get the absolute monster reaction.

@@trauma50disaster1 I mean, they're free to do it. But that doesn't mean I'm not going to point out that they're ruining the work of a whole team of artists. Sound design is an underappreciated aspect of cinema.

@@TheReverendSlim I bet your neighbors love when you "point out" you don't like the color of their house...here comes that guy

@@trauma50disaster1 In your example, the person painting their house is the artist. I may not like the color, because I'm allowed to have an opinion, but I don't then go change the color of their house to suit my tastes. That's what altering a mix is analogous to. It would be like you walking into a museum, seeing a Van Gogh, and deciding it would look better in sepia tones so you repaint it. I treat someone altering the hard work of Gary Rydstrom or Ben Burtt the same way... just as I would someone tampering with the cinematography of Janusz Kaminski or Hoyte Van Hoytema.
The entire reason we have references, for both audio and video, is to try to accurately represent the art that the filmmakers are presenting. It's fine if you don't see it as art... but it is, and I think more people should look into how much work goes into crafting these mixes to create the emotional response the filmmakers want to achieve.
