'Take It From Here' - 15th May 1957

'Take It From Here' was one of the most popular radio series of the 1950s, written by the excellent team of Frank Muir and Denis Norden and starring Dick Bentley, Jimmy Edwards and June Whifield in her first starring role.
A regular part of the show was 'The Glums', presenting a dysfunctional family with Jimmy Edwards as the bibulous and irresponsible Mr. Glum, Dick Bentley as Ron, his dim-witted son, and June Whitfield as Ron's fiancée Eth. In this segment Mr. Glum and Ron meet Eth's father.

really, I think the phrase these were different times…is more appropriate than better days.
The world had just been through 2 world wars the worst depression and there was poverty everywhere. It was only good time if you were a kid and had no memory of the preceding 5 decades. Thousands upon thousands of children were fatherless, some orphans and even worse damaged in body and soul from the traumas, if not dead themselves. Women went out to work after proving their worth during the war and that is where the social decline we have today occurred.
