    Joseph Pfeifer, MC/MPA 2008, was the first fire chief on the scene at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. Today, he is the chief of counterterrorism and emergency preparedness for the New York City Fire Department. In this film, Pfeifer talks about attending the Executive Education course for Senior Executives for State and Local Government at Harvard Kennedy School and, later, returning for his MPA degree, and the key role his Kennedy School training has played in his career.

    I remember the documentary he was in. I always liked his demeanor just focused yet humble.

      If you get your hands on his book "Ordinary Heroes" - you get insight in his demeanor. He checks out as a down to earth man, and likely could've never seen himself in such a predicament but managed in the best way he could and took the lessons he learned to implement better outcomes for the future.

    While I appreciate Joseph’s position on the importance of connecting and understanding different cultures, I’m left with major concerns about cultures that, for example, endorse stoning homosexuals to death.
    I can’t help feeling that the West must present a zero tolerance for this kind of practice and make a strong stand against any country that sanctions laws of this kind.
    I don’t feel that it’s wrong for the West to do this, but that then raises the question as to where we draw the line?
