  • My quick review on the Yaqin MC-10T integrated tube amp. The amp can be a bit bright and lack bass but it is a very good sounding integrated amp. I had a lot of fun with it and if you would like to experience the tube world, this is a good place to start.
    Dynaco A25 speakers
    Yaqin MC-10T
    scott 299c
    Infinity Performance series model 9 speakers (very harsh, try at your own risk!)

    You can have bass "to shake the house" from a single ended 10W per channel amp, so it depends on the speakers' sensitivity what the end result would be given that the amp has a decent frequency response.

      Thomas & Stereo Many thanks for replying to my comment. Yes, it’s the bass that I dislike, I think it lacks depth and richness, if that makes sense. I’ll keep them in storage for now. Actually, I am quite happy with my current speakers - KEF Q100’s, which are fine for my small listening room.

    Hi, i just want to share my experience with the Yaqin, i have mogami interconnects, and red dawn nordost speaker cables connected to my 705s Bowers and Wilkens speakers and it sounds amazing. Very nice sound stage, clarity, great separation and enough bass, and perhaps that due to placement of my speakers. Mid are liquid when it comes to vocals. Making sure that the tubes are biased is important as well. Im a jazz man for the most part, and it delivers. For the price, you get enough.

    Thomas , the speaker you spoke about and shown with the AMT tweeter is not Infinity, it's a ESS PS 9. I know because it was the first set of speakers I ever bought way back in 1976. Really a great little speaker. ESS is still in business. Thank you for all the great or the videos.

    Ok, I just got my new Yaqin MC-10T a few days ago, and I already owned a Yaqin MC-84L (12 watts) since last month. I'm happy to report that when compared to a new Klipsch subwoofer, the bass from this amp gives it a run for its money. The small Yaqin84L really does have NO BASS and requires a subwoofer. But this new MC-10T is every bit as good as a 200-watt solid state amp when it comes to bass. I can turn my subwoofer off and hardly miss it. Bottom line, I feels it's a good idea to have a subwoofer hooked up with tube-amps, but the MC-10T, I just bought, has plenty of bass when compared to my new Klipsch subwoofer. This is the best sounding stereo amp I have ever owned; it really rocks!

    My vintage Canary Audio CA608 is also tube and 40 watts. It gives killer bass to my ProAc speakers (though these are 91 db/w/m efficient). So tube amps CAN do bass if you pay some money on a good design.

    • @ThomasAndStereo
      @ThomasAndStereo  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have a very good integrated amp and having an efficient speaker is crucial. My friend has a 94db Katana speaker and he gets pretty good bass too with a simple 30w class A passlab amp (120 w in class AB). Most of the speaker that I owned are below 90db (except focal) so it's hard for me to get any decent bass with low watt amps.

      Let me ask my friend. He spent more time with it.

    • @ThomasAndStereo
      @ThomasAndStereo  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I asked my friend and this is his reply
      -The sound of the Yaqin is warmer than the Primaluna. It is thick like the older McIntosh. While the Prima is like the Audio Research (not as thick), so it depends on the taste of the user. To use the Mullard EL34 reissued would be a very good choice for the price and performance. I used to tune these chinese amps with the 12ax7 and the 12au7. base on these : NOS form Europe sound neutral and natural, US NOS more warm and more bass but less high. New stock from Russia more high less bass can be analytical (harsh). New stock from China sounds very nice like the European when new, but sound bloat and noisy over time, but cheaper to purchase.
      For all Chinese tube amp users need to try at lease three to four power cords before rolling the tubes, because I never hear the ascent of a better tube in a flimsy cord*.-

    • @thesoulshakers
      @thesoulshakers 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much for the detailed reply. I realized that my Yaqin is actually the previous model MC 10L which uses 6NP1 pre-amp tubes, it cannot use 12AX7s so I'm going to look for a quad set of NOS 6NP1s such as Svetlanas. For power cord I'm using Unity Audio which is an improvement over the stock power cable. I'm curious to pair the Yaqin with some Dynacos based on your review, it sounded go to me even over compressed YT audio. Thanks again for your excellent videos, please keep them coming as you are providing a great service to folks looking to get into home audio.

      No, you have a 1007BE, get something better, like a used Prima Luna if you have to. The speaker will outclass this amp by a margin. I have the 1027, 1028BE before and the Yaqin can't drive it with authority.

    Last several years I’ve been building tube amplifiers and transistor based amplifiers and hybrid tube. If you have a set of good speakers that you could bi-amp especially speakers at the high-end notes are just a little too crisp to penetrating too high use the low wattage tube amp for your high mids and use the transistor based higher wattage amplifier with a higher dampening factor for your base or subs. Also search the used market for a higher wattage transistor based amplifier would make a great low budget complementing bi-amp system

    Just wondering: Which tubes did your friend think were the best in this unit? You mentioned he got good sound of them, but neglected to mention the brand. Thank you!

    • @ThomasAndStereo
      @ThomasAndStereo  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I asked my friend, he has sold it but this is his answer. "Just use the reissue Mullard power tube would be fine. The driver tubes (12xx7) make an easy tweak to the sound, the modern Russian or Chinese runs are quite good by giving more gain. They can be a little harsh or bright. (Like the character of Kef 50 speaker). Want somewhat smoother? Put vintage Philips, or not so smooth but still detail, use the British Mullard or German Telefunken.
      But for the Yaqin, I found it benefits the most by swapping power cord, It can sound like a Audio Research, a Conrad Johnson or a McIntosh...(not 100%) by using appropriate powercords. A untweak Yaqin easily make the PrimaLuna sounds like transistor.
      The Yaqin loosing in terms of details, maybe due to the parts are cheap... it's a bit rough and hard to achieve a 3D image."

    I also have Yaqin but MC-100B I tested lots of tubes even vintage ones and thinking that current Chinese tubes from premium Chinese companies are good for price and quality, improvement also may be get via internal modifications with changing caps, resistors not only to get audiophile cap brands, mod could be done by experimenting with caps values, this is cheaper than getting vintage nos tubes

    I need advice on tube amps!!!
    I would like a Non-Chinese Tube Amp from around 75wpc to 100 wpc. Clean sounding Bass is as important as other mid-range and high notes. Chnese Amps usually use lower end compnents and there is usually about 5% of air in most Chinese Tubes that are 'Made in China'. There are a few good amps, but those are the exception and not the rule.
    Should I attempt a Pre-Amp & Stereo Tube Amp as a starter project. I have telecom voice and data installation & Repair for almost 30 years and I'm now retited. I don't want a project that will waste and burn my money.
    What can you recommend for a good 75 what and up. I have a high-end SONY ESD 1000ESD Solid State pre-amp. Should I get a tube Pre-Amp to go with a Tube Amplifier? I listen to Blues, Classic Rock, some older Jazz, Folk Music, and Comedy & other LPs. Bass and clarity is important to me. I do have Corals from Japan, Sansui, Infinity, and other older speakers that are like new as well as other matched speakers thar ere like new.
    Any type quality input is acceptable. I am retired, should I attempt building an amp, the chassis would be the harsest part to build. Thanks, Wayne., Fort Collins, CO 80525

    • @ThomasAndStereo
      @ThomasAndStereo  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Usually I would go with tube preamp and solid state amp. I covered that in my tube vs solid state video. th-cam.com/video/9f5iV80jAe0/w-d-xo.html The thing is you listen to a wide range of music and you need the bass so for me tube for amps is not the right way to go unless you are ready to spend a lot . If you are going for integrated tube amp or seperates, although I have not heard them, Prima Luna seems to be highly recommended. I cannot comment on building it yourself as I don't have any experience, My positive experiences with Tube are Audio research LS17, LS25, Ref 40. Audio research VT200. (only tube poweramp amp that i thought was amazing) Modwright LS100 preamp, So, as you can see, I focus moslty on getting tube preamps and rarely on tube amps as my speakers are not easy to drive.

    Hi Thomas, I currently own Martin Logan Aerius i speakers, quite vintage, Atoll IN100 se amplifier. My source is a Bluesound Node 1. What kind of improvement, if any, could I expect by replacing my Atoll by this Yaqin tube amplifier? Would it be a better idea to keep the Atoll but put a Schiit Freya in front of it to enter the tubish sound sphere? Thanks in advance for your advice. Stephane

    • @ThomasAndStereo
      @ThomasAndStereo  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have the Atoll IN30 and it's incredible. This will be a downgrade for you. Adding a Freya? I am not sure it's a good idea as you will e going thru 2 preamps. I am not a big fan of adding too much in the chain unnecessary. I probably will try that with my Freya and the sprout 100 just to see.

      Does that mean that I have to go to higher end and more expensive tune amp? What else could I change to improve the sound signature of my stereo?

    • @ThomasAndStereo
      @ThomasAndStereo  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      In yoru case, you can't really do much since it's an integrated amp. Sure you can get a Freya tube preamp and used the amp section only or vice versa. However, I am not sure that is the best way to spend your money. That is the challenge of buying an integrated amp. It limits us when we want to 'upgrade'. I probably would spend the money on a new pair of speakers since the Atoll can keep up with many speakers.

    You're an Awesome Audiophile with much experience in HiFi.
    I am putting together a 13W VALVE Amp DIY Kit with the following specs:
    Output Power: 13W × 2 (class AB push-pull)
    Output impedance: 8Ω、16Ω
    Frequency response: 28HZ-20KHZ
    Audio Input: RCA
    Audio Output: Banana Speaker Jacks
    Input voltage: 110V
    Default Tubes: 6N1*2 6P14*4 6E2*2 (its obviously upgradeable to more connoisseur tubes but should like to first try out these stock valves)
    So, I was wondering if you could please provide some guidance into what speaker parameters would sound good with this sort of amp (I know that 13W is not much power). However, I play guitar and I find a true Valve Amp is much more powerful than Solid State. Any sort of help would be very much appreciated.

      I would get the similar Yaqin Mcs13 which is about $700 now on Amazon. I got one about three months ago after seeing some rave reviews in comments about it, this was in Comparison to a new Macintosh hybrid integrated that is about $3500 bucks... many people said this amp compares very favorably with tube swaps and boy were they right! it is definitely made for very efficient towers, go with Klipsch as much as you can afford. I have the Icon series which is basically the value series but the biggest ones of that line. it absolutely shakes the house, crazy detail and very smooth and clear. I would put my setup against many 5k and up to 8k including speakers, I did add a new Marantz DAC which was 700 bones which also improved detail, go with gold Lions for the AU7 tube upgrade and for the AX7 upgrade the electro harmonix, leave the big tubes as is, I tried to upgrade them to Gold Lions and they were not as clear.... Basically the moral of the story is Yaqin is magic, very well made and absolutely kills most anything if you hook it to some nice big Klipschs! Enjoy

Maybe in a couple of year I will spend the big money to get a really nice one. So I got this amp and with the 6.5 watt it’s not there for me. I have 1000watt active speakers.I hooked them up and it sounds great but I hit on a site that said power+power= destruction. So I backed off and started looking around for some help here. I found a couple sites that said I had to run the amp threw a mixer . I have a small mixer but one guy showed where to run out of the mixer but not in. 1- please make a facebook group for your channel so that you can post articles as reference. For example, i appreciate your video about differences in cables. Also the video where you reviewed focal speaker. In those videos you mentioned that there are bright and not so bright cables / speakers, and we should do system matching to get the best results. How about documenting your findings and post it on your facebook group? Make a list of bright sounding cables, bright sounding speakers... speakers for audiophile, speakers that are musical... and this list should grow and updated regularly as your channel matures. It would help people like me who dont have the time or the means to experiment the way you do up there in canada.
    2- please review more dacs, especially the ones connected via usb to laptop. i need to learn how to choose dacs, and please explain the differences between dacs on different price brackets. when you mentioned "exasound" you used with the focal speaker, i am so curious. questions like, is it worth it to buy super expensive dac like that, or a would a chord hugo your friends use with the verity parcifal be more than enough for average systems?
    3- hugs to your kids from me. i love it when they bump on your camera and you keep the show going as if nothing happened.

For movies it varies between 30-40 seconds, not sure about music but it is possible there is a certain length that is accepted without copyright notice (and monetization disabled). So it may actually be possible to have a short segment. I'll try to run more tests - the trick is to do them on a 'test' channel, not on our main channel so we don't get copyright strikes. you can shake your house with 5 watts.if you own Klipschorns.

      You can drive efficient speakers with just a bit of Watt. I had used 2 watt tube amps before too. On a 94 db speaker, its not bad but I never tried any speakers more efficient than that. I know 2w with 94db is just ok, will not shake the house but 5w with 100db efficiency, I am curious. But it;s not just shaking the house, there is more to that for good bass.

    Of course it'd be better than Yamaha. Even the budget nobsound is better. Yamaha' s signature is a slightly veiled sound, slow and lacking musical texture. Yamaha is for those enthralled by the name and looks, not the sound. Similarly, Mac

      Thanks for the honest feedback. If you can be more specific, I can clarify as I did made some blanket statement which might not apply in all situations.
